    This cover looks great!

I was a bit skeptical when there were no instructions of any kind with the cover. But once I removed the arm-rest door and saw how it was put together, I figured out to wrap the leather around and clamp it in with the door liner and latch. It helps to have some upholstering skills, which I got from recovering the door panels on a 1974 Pinto station wagon. Anyway, it did make for a tight fit when the cover latches, but I think as the leather molds in it will loosen up. Overall the cover looks great and makes for a soft elbow rest.

    Homemade Installation Instructions

Here are my installation instructions for the black with white stripes version (Item# 102221). They should be the same for this black with red, white and blue stripes version (Item# 102219). Remove the console cover from the rear by using a small socket with an extension to remove the four screws toward the lower back. Take the bracket off the cover with more four screws and separate the two sets. Remove the plastic inner cover screws. The hard rubber cover detaches from the plastic framework. Remove the three screws holding the latch. The manufacturer provided 3/4" foam inside the leather cover. This seemed too thick, so I replaced it with 1/4" foam instead. I drew my own pattern and cut my foam. This made the installation of the leather cover easier. Start by adding the cover at the latch piece. Work toward the middle and finish at the hinge. Pull the overhang over the sides. Others started at the hinge and worked toward the latch, but you will be working in both directions. Add the screws to the latch and the inner cover to hold the leather in. Use a small thin screwdriver to insert excess leather. Compress or trim the foam and the leather cover as needed, and use masking or duct tape to hold the edges when adding the leather cover, but remove the tape before finishing as it is seen through the openings in the inner cover. Add the latch, inner cover and lower hinge when ready. Check for loose or bulging material and trim and reinstall. Reattach the cover to the console and test fit so that it latches. The latch may be tight because of the leather wrapping, requiring pushing the latch down and pressing the button at the same time. Because I seldom use my console, this was not a problem.  My installation took 2-1/2 hours. The final result looked great.

Excellent Addition! .... But, not An Easy Install

Purchased this to not only be a nice comfortable arm rest, but the Red, White and Blue Stripes made it really "pop" in my interior! Be prepared to spend at least 1.5 hours on this install. The correct way to install it is to completely remove the center arm rest console door, flip upside down and remove 8 screws to get this piece to look correct. After a few curse words and struggles, I was finally able to install all sides tucked under the bottom piece so it looked tight and stretched evenly on all sides. NO INSTRUCTIONS come with this piece! Disappointed that only the unit came. Excellent quality leather! Very nice once installed and now my right arm has a comfortable resting spot on long cruises. Other than looks and comfort, I would recommend AM send instructions with this item going forward. I almost gave up on the install and was going to return, but I knew it would look nice if I remaind determined! Nice piece AM! Thanks

    Great interior upgrade

I couldn't stand the hard console door as an armrest. Thought I'd pull the trigger on this cover. I have no regrets what so ever. It's made of high quality leather. I found that patience is the key to installation. Once the cover is disassembled, it is best to start at the rear ( hinge end and work forward to the latch. It helps to use tape, I used Gorilla tape, to pull the leather cover around the console lid so the inner panel would screw down and grab the leather cover. You will have to pull and stretch to get the wrinkles out as you work toward the latch to get the leather under the inner panel. Installing the screws as you work toward the latch. I had to start over several times before I got a perfect fit. Mine looks better than the pics shown on AM's ad. I love resting my arm on a soft cover. It looks great and I have no regrets with my purchase. Just set aside a couple of hours to install. Patients will be the key to a perfect install

    Love the LOOK

I must say it was a little work putting it on as I to trim the foam and with some gentle pulling and persuasion of the leather cover itself …..Love the Look !!!!!! as it looks good with the Matching floor mats I also purchased from American Muscle. It also adds more comfort while resting your arm while cruising. The purchase was painless and fast shipping and my car has no complains with her new added look. I will continue to shop from American Muscle.

    Leather arm rest cover

The leather arm rest cover is a very nice addition. It adds to the looks and comfort of the interior. It also raises your arm up off the release latch which can get very hot in the summer. The fit is good, but it is rather difficult to install. With the arm rest removed and the latch and bottom cover removed, you need to compress the foam somewhat while pulling the lower edges of the cover around the bottom of the arm rest and then "pinning" it with the cover and latch during reinstallation. It would have been nice if the lower portion was prefitted/contoured to allow it to be "pulled" over the arm rest and helped hold itself in position while reinstalling the cover/latch. Overall it is very nice, but be prepared for some wrestling while installing it.

Leather Arm Rest Is A Wonderful Addition

Overall this has been a great addition to my car. The fit isn't the best as you will have to wrestle with it a little, but take your time and it'll be on in less than an hour. Mine was a bit snug when closing the console down, but a little firm press and it locks down without issue. The quality is excellent and it'll brighten up your interior - especially if you have all black like I do. I definitely recommend this if you want to add more class to an already classy ride! Install: You will need to remove your console cover from the console itself which is only four screws towards the back. You will have to take the bracket off the cover which is another four screws - these are slightly different from the four you already took off so keep them separate. Next you have a few more smaller screws to remove the plastic inner cover and then three more that hold the latch. Slide the cover over the console. The fit isn't the best as you have only a little overhang that you need to pull over the edges and secure with the inner plastic pieces that you took off. Take your time. I started with the latch piece, and then worked my way towards the back of the cover finishing with the hinge. After you reattach to the console test your fit and make sure the latch secures properly. Again, it's a little tedious, but not too troublesome. Definitely worth the effort.

    Great leather horrible foam

I actually really like this product considering the stock armrest has no padding. It was an upgrade either way however the foam provided is very weak, I went to a fabric store and bought a piece of foam used for putting a pad on top of a hard wood kitchen chair cut it down and shaped it to the needs that I had one part the product that I do not understand there is no way to secure the sides of the leather to the sides of the lid.

    Looks great

I'm annoyed that there weren't instructions on how to quickly install this. I figured it out, of course, but if they even had a few pointers to help you out, it would have taken less time. I'd recommend you have pliers with an old rag covering the teeth to avoid damaging the leather. Once you remove the chrome button and slide the arm rest cover on it, replace the button. Use the pliers with rag and lighly pull the back end of the cover over the end of the console storage panel. If you find the foam is too big (as I did, it wasn't cut correctly) just grab some scissors and trim it. Installation should take about 15 minutes. Took me longer, as I did not initially have the pliers, nor scissors. Oh yeah, and no instructions.

    Cool Styling

Helps to have a background in upholstery. Make sure you bring your glue gun! Instructions are vague but a little patience and your interior will get that look that's subtle but classy!

    Misses the Mark

This is a nice looking piece and my son and I were looking forward to the finished product. While the leather seems to be of good quality the fit is nowhere near factory standards. We removed and disassembled the entire armrest unit in order to properly install the cover. The hard rubber cover detaches from the plastic framework with the removal of 8 screws and latch mechanism. The first thing we noticed was there was not enough leather to overlap the underside of the rubber cover to secure (hold in place) when reattaching the plastic framework. We spent about 45 minutes stretching from one side to the other trying to get the leather to stay tucked in between the two pieces. At some point the stitching in the stripe portion started coming apart. So much for that project. Unfortunately I will be sending this one back.
