What's going on, guys? Adam here with AmericanMuscle.com, and today I'm bringing you my review of the Rear Seat Delete Kit in black for all '05 to '14 Mustang Coupes. So if you're the type of S197 Coupe owner looking for a way to drop some weight to get more power to the ground for the track, or if you're just looking for a sporty two-seater look, then a rear seat delete kit might be for you.I do wanna point out, before we jump into details, that this kit here is only gonna be for the S197 Coupe owners. So if you're rocking a soft top convertible, this kit here will not be for you, but I'm sure there are other options out there on the market. Now the guys going to the track often enough to really wanna shed some weight typically aren't taxiing people around in their back seats, which means the rear seats are actually just dead weight. For those S197 Coupe owners out there who are just looking for a two-seater sport styling, this really does, appearance-wise, give you a natural black finish to look like your Mustang came from the factory with just two seats. This way you can stop being the taxi, and you'll have an excuse to get out of being designated driver when you go out responsibly with your friends. As far as the materials go for the Rear Seat Delete Kit, it's made of a quarter-inch thick plywood wrapped in premium black upholstery to ensure that clean, natural look. When it comes to the appearance aspect, it looks really good, blends in with the interior of the car, and will look very natural. When it comes to the quality and build, though, I'll be honest, it does leave a little bit to be desired. Now like I said, it is made of a quarter-inch thick plywood, which in all honesty is pretty flimsy. It doesn't support too much weight, so you wanna be careful when you're getting back there to clean your rear windshield. Now you wanna keep in mind that this was made to reduce weight, so if they made this wood any thicker, you'd just be replacing the seat weight with the same weight in wood, which would kinda defeat the purpose. The only other complaint I have about this kit is that the Rear Seat Delete on the back doesn't necessarily bolt on as easily as the front. Now it does include plastic clips and all the hardware necessary, but some people have said that the plastic clips for the back don't exactly line up with the holes on the vehicle. So it might be a good idea to head out to a hardware store and pick up some longer bolts. Measure the size. You'll be able to figure out which bolts you need, and you'll get it to work properly. And all the installation should go smoothly from there. The price of this kit may seem a little bit high, considering the materials, but it comes in right around the $150 mark. Now off the bat it does seem a little bit pricey, but you do wanna consider that it takes all the hassle of buying the products, materials, measuring, cutting, stapling, all of that has been taken out of your hands and done for you with this kit.One thing I definitely wanna touch on, and I did talk about it a little bit earlier, is that since the materials are pretty thin, they are not meant to hold any weight. It's not a safe seat for anybody, not even a heavy pet. You definitely wanna keep this in mind.So the installation of a Rear Seat Delete Kit is pretty straightforward. It just requires a couple of hand tools including a couple of sockets. You'll start by removing the lower cushions by releasing the clips that are between the cushions and the carpeted cross-member below. Once you do that, they'll lift right up and out. So from here, you wanna fold down the top cushion and remove the bolts next to the U-shaped latches. From there, you can fold the seat back up and remove the four bolts by the lower hinge, and remove the back seats. At this point, you'll have the option of removing the seat belt, which is not entirely necessary. But if you do wanna do it, this would be your chance because once you pass this point you won't be able to take them out.To install the lower portion of the Rear Seat Delete, it's as simple as entering the pins into the holes provided. Now, you may need to remove the plastic clips on the wiring harness underneath just to make this sit flush and tight. The installation of the back portion may give you some trouble, as I mentioned before. Now you wanna make sure, once you get it installed, that the back portion is not wedged behind it but fits on top of the lower end. This install is pretty straightforward. You'll be looking at spending about an hour of your time with some simple hand tools. And I definitely give it a one out of three wrenches on the Difficulty Scale.Just to quickly wrap things up, guys, if you're looking for an easy way to get rid of those rear seats, either to delete some weight for the track or just to get that cool two-seater styling, then this Rear Seat Delete Kit in black may be for you. And you can get yours right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Plugs they send you aren’t the best and don’t line up perfectly. But once you get it secured it looks awesome. Love telling my friends we can’t all ride in my car!Helpful (2)

Did what it’s supposed to
I didn’t like the way the back seat looked and wanted it gone. The rear seat delete did the trick. The wood is thin and feels a little flimsy but if you are after weight reduction it’s what you’ll want. Personally I would have liked a little thicker sturdier wood since I was just covering the area where the seats were for looks not weight reduction. Overall happy with the product it did what I bought it for.Helpful (0)

Rear Seat Delete
Very pleased with the over all look and feel. Install took 15 minutes with most of the time required being to remove the rear seat. Not a lot of road noise with the seat removed and the delete installedHelpful (0)

Okay, but could be better
Love the look, but the clips that come included are not sturdy enough to hold the pieces in. The bottom is stable, when lined up correctly. The top clips do not fit all the way through to actually hold it in, it falls consistently and I’m having to fix it on a daily basis. I suggest purchasing longer clips to hold it in place if you plan on buying this product.Helpful (4)

I would give this a negative 10 if possible
Absolutely junk. Top holes are about 5” off. It’s basically impossible to drill new holes considering you can’t see the holes behind it when it’s uo against. The material is flimsy and horrible and the felt is very cheap. Worst product on this pageHelpful (7)

Great way to make your mustang look cooler
I gotta say every time I'm backing out of a parking spot or out of my driveway I love to see there is no backseat, if you want to give you mustang a more sports car appeal then this is it.Helpful (2)

When I opened the box, I was expecting 2 plywoods, covered in a black carpet. It was simply the bottom piece that contained carpet-covered plywood. The remainder was just carpet; approx 4ft in length. There was no way to utilize this, no way to attach it to the back to have it properly installed as a rear seat delete kit. Furthermore; the plywood was NOT even cut to sized, and cracked when attempting to insert it.Helpful (6)
will this hold a custom speaker box? I was wondering if this seat delete kit would hold a custom speaker box and subs. i dont want to sacrifice trunk space just to have subs in my car so i figured i could get a seat delete kit as a compromise.
It would but you would have to customize the seat delete for structural support as the kit is made of 1/4 plywood and not designed to hold the additional weight.
Work with a convertible?
The Platform of the rear seats in the convertible is different meaning this kit which is designed for the coupes will not work on your vehicle.
What are the dimensions for both pieces?
What are the measurements of the top and bottom pieces of the deletes by length and width?
Is it possible to only order the bottom piece? I do not need the top
These wont fit due to the design differences between the coupe and convertible rear seats and currently we do not carry a rear seat delete kit for a 05-09 convertibles.
Unfortunately, due to different mounting positions, this will not fit with anything but 05-14 Mustangs.
You can mount a NOS bottle on this rear seat delete kit if you would like.
This kit will be 1/4" thick.
Unfortunately, this kit and the x-brace was designed for the coupe models only and will not work with the convertible model.
The rear seat section of a convertible has a different platform and fitment than a coupe so the SpeedForm Rear Seat Delete Kit was engineered to fit with the coupe body style and unfortunately doesn't work with convertibles.
We do not happen to offer a rear seat delete kit for convertibles.
Read all the reviews. And it will work on your car ....
