Is it safe to use these without the factory latch, IE will these hold my hood down alone or will it fly off?

DanielF

  • The Shelby Black Aluminum Hood Pin Kit are compatible both with and without the factory latch, however we do recommend using these with the factory hood latch for security reasons.

Will these work on a carbon fiber hood? I have an aftermarket carbon fiber hood and I am wondering whether these can be installed on my hood?

nickrnorton

  • The Shelby Black Aluminum Hood Pin Kit (05-09 All) will not fit a carbon fiber hood. These hood pins will only fit the original stock hood or an aftermarket fiberglass hood.

Is this compatible with my after-market hood? I have a Cervini Concept after market hood with the ram air option. I'd like to add hood pins, but the curve of my hood is different at the install location shown on the photos.

JohnCip

  • I have the cervini's concept ram air hood. They do fit, a little massaging is needed due to the angle of the hood there. A small stone grinder on a drill helped.

    Shelby Black Hood Pin Kit

Nice quality product. Not made cheeply at all. Great agressive look. Pretty easy install, with right tools assembled, took me about 45 min. Only downfall is the kit does not include screws to mount the cable wires and no instructions were included. AM DOES have a set of instructions online that work just fine though. Overall, a great buy from American Muscle.

Nice hood pins. Fairly easy install. I used a step up drill bit and everything went pretty smooth. The only thing I didn't like is that the kit did not include hardware to attach the cables to the inside of the engine bay. Other than that, great pins.

    Great Hood Pins

These hood pins are fabulous. Took me the afternoon to install and I put them on a 2000 Mustang. I posted a picture but not sure if they will publish it since these are advertised for 05-09. They are quality made and look great. Mine are used with an aftermarket hood and needed the functionality more than the looks but the looks are just icing on the cake. Thank you AM.

    Perfecto choice

I have a carbon fiber hood, so it was a little bit more work to install it, fits perfectly, 100% functional in my case cause air used to lift my hood in highways, should have a rubber guide base or something to drill it easier though.

    Look Great!

These pins look great. Takes some ingenuity to install, use your judgement wisely! But the results are fantastic, these are the real deal and will keep your hood down tight during those evil rocket runs!!!

    Alternate Install

Right from the start, I threw the instructions away. I wanted my pins on the outside, not the inside part of the hood. So I pulled the 2 rubber bump stops out and drilled a 1" hole there. My hood angles down so I knew the pins would not make it all the way thru the hole. So I pulled the dremel out and sanded out some of the top to make the whole larger while keeping it round. I then got black automotive paint and painted any metal I saw on the pins or my hood black. Works great.. love it compared to the ones I replaced. Also, to prevent loosening, I went and got 10 (incase I lost 1 or 2) black 6-32 x 3/4 sheet metal screws (stainless and painted black) and 10 neoprene lined 6-32 locking nuts and tossed their screws away. $4.96 at ACE. I just wish they didn't say Shelby.. I dont have a Shelby. Oh well, I will think of something.

    Shelby Pins

The Shelby hood pins fit real good and look fantastic. I had a local body shop install them, didn't really feel comfortable drilling holes in my hood and it took them about an hour.

    The right look and functionallity

I was looking for a good looking hood pin that would stand out and function. These exceeded my expectations. Great looking product. Keeps the hood still when Cruising. Easy install, Took a few hours but I was very picky on making sure they were drilled exactly the way I wanted.

    Killer Look!

Pins fit and look great, and were fairly easy to install. Only issue I've had is that water gets into the plastic coating of the cables, and rusts the wire, but it's easily remedied with a cheap set of colored pin cables.

Drill holes through the hood? Why not?

The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was that these hood pins are quite a bit beefier than the pictures give them credit for, that was a big plus. The sinking feeling you get when you start to drill holes through the hood of a Shelby on the other hand is a bit less thrilling. The install could definitely be done in an hour or less, but only by someone who had done this once or twice before; the online instructions suggested using grease to mark the contact point of the pins then drill it from the bottom, then drill from the top down to match. In hind sight their are certainly better and cleaner ways to go about it. My recommendation is to use the grease to mark all three layers of the hood from the bottom then drill them one at a time, this would ensure a better alignment and less of a screeching metal on metal noise. Also do your best not to drop the bolt from the pin in front of your radiator, the bolt is barely magnetic and you will need to remove the splitter to get it out. Despite the embarrassingly difficult installation, the end result was undeniably a beautiful looking addition to my car.

    Awesome!

I have an 05 Roush and on a cross country trip I notice my hood trying to lift up while going by head on traffic on a 2 lane road at about 80mph. I was scared to push it up over 100 on a highway bc of the same issue. After watching a few youtube videos of hoods flying up I bought these. They are very nice high quality hood pins. Good directions are included. I had them professional installed by a Ford dealer for $40 and worth the money. I didnt have the proper tools to drill the holes. You will need a right angle drill a good drill bit and a few small levels to ensure you are not drilling crooked.. I got scared to drill a hole in the wrong place and ruin my hood. They look great and are functional. I know my hood doesnt have a chance to come up now. I would not be afraid to top this car out. Tested at high speeds and hood didnt even flinch. These work great and look better! Thanks AM!

    They are nice

I'm building my 08 mustang into a drag car.i replaced the hood on the car with fiberglass Hood . At 80 mph the hood starts to move around and was scaring me knowing that the hood lach is held on by SMC resin . So I decided to drill holes into the hood and install these Shelby hood pins . I feel much safer now. PS the kit is easy to install
