Regain Lost Power. Get back the power and torque your belt-driven accessories steal. As hard as it may be to believe, you can regain from 8 to 10 "free" horsepower with Steeda's underdrive pulleys. These pulleys reduce engine parasitic drag from your accessories by about 25% and even improve fuel economy.

Superior Materials. Steeda underdrive pulleys are manufactured from nodular iron, and far exceed the quality of the stock pulleys. The one-piece crankshaft pulley uses a high-tech injection molded bonded rubber damper, making it far more durable than other manufactures "piggyback style" underdrive pulleys.

SFI Approved. Steeda underdrive pulleys are SFI approved for use by all major race sanctioning bodies.

Application. These Steeda Underdrive Pulleys are specifically designed for use on the 1996 to Mid 2001 4.6L V8 GT Mustangs and reuse the stock belt.

Note: Coupon codes cannot be applied to this product.

Technical Note. Midway through the production run for the 2001 model year Ford changed the design of the water pump on the 4.6L engine. The older style pump produced from 1996 to mid 2001 had a longer shaft. In January of 2001 the design of the pump was changed to a shorter shaft. This necessitated a change in the design of the pump pulley.

    • I also have 2 10" subs kicker 800 watts rms each 2 amps one is a kicker 1x1000 watts and another for my highs 4 channel 100 watts per channel and an optima yellow top battery with also under drive pulleys and it works just fine u don't need to have a bigger alternator but the more amps it has the better i have a 130 amp alternator and it works just fine. hope this helps

crank pulley bolt do u need to get a new one.

    • No you do not as long as you have the stock one still. It comes with a long one for install but do not put it all the way in. Go by the instructions for that. Just make sure to get the bolt torqued to spec and you should be good.

Definite change in the pier band. Working through 1 and 2 gears it was noticeable indeed. Also on the highway a drop was observed in the RPMs while at speed Would recommend

      Car enthusiasts

Great buy this pulley is not a piggy back pulley like the BBK it's a full crank shafts pulley- harmonic balancer great buy if your looking to replace your old balancer but if your doing this on a automatic car be aware it's much more difficult because the engine will keep turning when trying to remove - install the hermonic balancer that and you will need impact gun for the alternator bolt. This is a two man job so good luck I did it buy myself but still needed some extra hands.

      There is a difference!!

Since 2010 I have had a what I'm going to call a hard mount under drive pulley set (not going to say brand name) meaning there is no damper in the crank pully. At first I had no issue to speak of and didn't know there would be any future ones. About 60k miles later on a brand new motor my oil pump failed and lost the motor do to spun main bearing. I found it odd that it did (had to much have between the gear pump witch ended in time with no/or low oil pressure. I then built a filling forged border .020 over motor and as the mouths went by and waiting on parts and money I found out the a hard mount crank pulley will take the engines vibration and put it back threw your oil pump since it dose not have a damper to absorb, witch in time will make a oil pump fail. So I bought these Steeda and there is a difference in feel quality and manufacturing as well as peace of mind knowing my motor is safe. Invest your hard earned money smart and do it right the first time because the second time it is alot more costley.. I highly recommend these over any other set on the market to date.

I have two Mustangs and I got to say these pulleys definitely make a difference on the motor as far as not putting so much stress on the engine as it runs it idles lower in my opinion if you want your motor to last longer these pulleys are definitely a must do for the money they look good also

      double check the box

After removing the old crank pully I found out the hard way that they forgot to put the bolt in the box to line up the new crank pully. Ended up going to few auto part stores and having no luck, went to a hardware store and found one. Burned up about 2 hours trying to find this bolt. Also ran into a little bit of trouble with taking the stock alternator pully off needed to use impact. All said and done I still think it was worth it. I did notice some difference in power. I just wish I would have noticed they forgot the bolt before starting.

      Love everything Steeda

For those looking for pulleys, you should ONLY consider the Steeda's. Do not look at any piggyback pulleys. Absolutely amazing throttle response. Noticed more low end grunt. Went ahead and bought a new ARP bolt when putting on the balancing pulley. I have a JL 12 and 500w amp with all alpine speakers inside and a candy amp pushing those. No charging problems what so ever. I have not noticed any light dimming or anything. If you are looking to get the most out of your engine and staying N/A, DO IT.

Steeda Underdrive Pulley review (97 Mustang GT)

I found Steeda’s underdrive pulley kit to be a good buy. The installation was not too bad and pretty straight forward. Install: The biggest installation issue is getting an impact wrench to remove the harmonic balancer. Quality: Steeda’s underdrive pulley kit looked to be of high quality, especially the Harmonic balancer. Performance: I did notice more of bottom end torque as the car seemed to pull stronger on the bottom end at low speeds. However, overall the performance seemed to be perhaps only slightly noticeable. I have yet to test the gas mileage to see if there is an actual increase in mileage.

      nice mod

I've been debating on this mod for a while and decided to pull the trigger. It was well worth it. I have the PI swap, stage-2 cams and many other mods and the pulleys just added icing on the cake. Quicker revs, more power throughout the band, and improved gas mileage for real! Idles much smoother too. Do it!
