Review & Installation Video

Justin: Hey, guys. Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here to talk about the benefits of using the Bama X4 Flash Tuner, loaded with the new custom Bama V2 Tunes on your Coyote powered '11 to '14 GT. Now, here with me today, Paul Meister from the Bama Performance Team. He's going to talk a little bit more about what the average Coyote owner can expect when uploading a tune to their GT. Paul? Paul: What you can expect when uploading your tune to your '11 to '14 Mustang GT is a complete remap electronic throttle calibration for improved throttle response. For the automatic owners, it's a complete redesign of the shifting characteristics from shift points, torque converter lock and unlock, fan setting changes, fuel map changes, spark map changes. And of course, a refocus on the twin independent and variable cam for improved drive-ability and maximum performance. Justin: Absolutely. With the new Bama V2 Tunes, we're talking about a performance, and we're also talking about a race tune. Can you explain the difference? Paul: Correct. Our Performance V2 Tune is really designed for that aggressive daily driver. It offers a seamless blend of performance and drive-ability. And we do that with a remap ETC; electronic throttle calibration. The automatic guys get a completely revised shift schedule, torque converter changes, and again, some of the twin independent variable cam stuff as well, that we spoke about. The Race V2 Tune is designed for just that; race use only. We pretty much disable all the torque management. It's designed to shift really aggressively for the automatic guys, and just deliver everything that's left on the table from the vehicle. Justin: Yeah, and guys, don't forget, with Bama's "Free Tunes For Life," as your car's modifications grow, Paul and his team at Bama Performance will write a new tune for each and every mod so you can get the most out of your set-up. Now guys, that's going to do it for now. Paul's going to basically translate what he just said in the dyno numbers shortly when we run our 2012 GT behind me. But in the meantime, Paul's going to get out of here. We're going to talk a little bit more about what you can expect with the X4 tuner itself. As for the actual Bama SF4 tuner itself, well, as you can see, it's a pretty sleek, compact and modern design but with a very large, easy to read, full color LCD display. Now, some of the features with this full color display include a landscape mode, meaning you can turn it sideways, just like a lot of smartphones out there, for a completely different view. You can also choose different colors and themes available through a menu. And you can also go ahead and select a power-saving auto-dim feature to use while the tuner's plugged in but not in use. So, why the larger screen? Well, the Bama SF4 does feature on-screen gauges and data logging similar to what you'd find with more expensive models like the SCT Livewire or even the ITSX, for instance. These screen layouts are fully customizable and can display up to eight different values at one time, including boosts, air fuel ratio, coolant temp and intake air temperature, just to name a few. And by the way, you can data log these just with a simple touch of a button. Other features with the SF4 do include built-in WiFi which is a nice little touch and allows you to take care of those future firmware updates wirelessly. Now, the tuner does feature dual analog inputs and a removable power cord, making storage in a glove box or armrest that much easier. The tuner does still hold 10 tunes at one time and is still capable of reading and clearing those diagnostic codes just like any other tuner available out there on the market today. Finally, guys, if you do have any more questions about the SF4 tuner itself, please head back to the product page at AmericanMuscle.com where you can read up on some more details in addition to some customer reviews. Now, before we show you just how much power you can expect on your '11 to '14 GT using a custom Bama V2 Tune, I just wanted to walk you guys through the actual process of uploading the tune using your Bama Performance X4 Flash Tuner, and then we'll go ahead and make our Dyno pull here with our 2012 GT and show you guys the results. To start, you're going to want to locate your car's OBD-II port, which on the '11 to '14 Ford Mustang GTs is located on the lower portion of the dash here. So, go ahead and plug your tuner in and wait for it to power on. Navigate to your performance or race tune. Select the tune you wish to upload. And then just follow the detailed instructions listed on the screen here. Of course, if you guys have any trouble whatsoever during this process, you can always reach out to a Bama Tuning Expert. They're always standing by, ready to help you guys out. With our baseline run already in the books and the tuneup loaded, Paul's going to hop in the car and make another hit here on the Dynojet and see what kind of numbers you can expect with your GT. Our baseline run using our stock 2012 GT gave us 365 horsepower and 343 pound/feet of torque at the rear wheels. With the Bama V2 93 race tuneup loaded, the car is now making 397 horsepower and 382 pound/feet of torque. That gives us a peak gain of 32 horsepower over those baseline numbers, and gains of as much as 50 horsepower and 47 pound/feet of torque throughout the curve. The Bama X4 tuner loaded with the new custom Bama V2 Performance and Race Tune is a great way to make the most out of your stock or modified Ford Mustang GT, and is no doubt one of the easier mods you will ever tackle with your ride. Custom Bama Tunes specific to your vehicle. When you order a tuner, you aren't just getting a tuner - you are getting the tuner and 2 dyno-tested custom Bama tunes:

  • Performance V2 (87-93 Octane) - The Performance Tune offers a seamless blend of power, performance and drive-ability. Improving the overall driving experience of your Mustang, the Bama Performance Tune improves vehicle acceleration, increases power throughout the entire RPM and improves throttle response with revised timing, fuel, and TiVCT maps. Automatic equipped vehicles offer an aggressive shifting map to provide more aggressive transmission settings. This tune is suggested for the aggressive daily driver that is looking for more "get up and go".

  • Race V2 (91-93 Octane, E85, Race Fuel) - The Race Tune is designed for maximum performance and ensures the largest increase in vehicle performance. Using the highest grade of fuel available in your area is mandatory as timing, TiVCT, fuel, and throttle response settings are very aggressive. Automatic transmission settings implement entirely new shift points, torque converter changes and firmness settings designed for Track use.

Nitrous (91, 93, E85, Race Fuel) - Our nitrous option can be added to any of our previously mentioned tune options, but only for 91, 93, E85, or Race Fuel.

Technical Note About Fuel. Use of E85 will require larger fuel injectors such as Injector Dynamics ID1300 or Ford Racing 47lb/hr Injectors. Unleaded race fuel can also be used, but Stoichiometric points must be supplied.

Easy to load; easy to restore. Not only are the custom tunes easy to load on your vehicle, it is just as easy to restore your factory settings. When you load your custom tune on the vehicle, the tuner automatically stores your vehicle's factory settings. To return the vehicle to its factory settings, just plug the tuner back in, select the option to restore the factory settings, and you're done.

How do I clean the filter? Am I supposed to clean and oil it? Will the K N cleaning kit work on this?

GaryW

  • The Steeda Cold Air Intake features a dry filter and does not need to be oiled. The cleaning process can be used with the K and N cleaning kit and is as follows; spray the filter with the cleaner and let sit for 2-3 minutes, wash filter thoroughly, let filter dry for 15-30 minutes or until COMPLETELY dry, then reinstall.

Review from Steeda Cold Air Intake (11-14 GT Manual)

Best Cold Air Kit On The Market

Package arrived well boxed & protected, no missing parts. Directions were very straight forward. I would recommend to be very careful around the metal box as it is sharp. I encountered a small cut while handling it. I took my time and from start to finish it took approx 90 minutes. After install I added the BAMA 91 Race tune I had set up for this kit. Power increase is very noticeable. Motor has a deeper sound a light throttle and really comes alive once past 3,000 RPM. This motor REALLY needs a good CAI. I chose the STEEDA CAI due to it's retention of the factory air ducting from the grill area as most other kits eliminate this important feature as it gives you the densest air charge possible which helps to add to more HP & TQ as well as MPG versus the other CAI's on the market. Throttle response is very crisp. This kit is much more durable and classy looking IMO over other kits. HP & TQ results were a net gain of 39.3 HP & 42.6 TQ across the power band. For the $$ spent, that's a VERY good value. I spent hours reviewing ALL the other CAI kits on the market (fit & finish), appearance, HP gains, and when considering the relatively minor differences in price plus the fact that FORD partnered with STEEDA made this kit the clear choice for me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this kit.

Review from Bama X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner w/ 2 Custom Tunes (11-14 GT; 12-13 BOSS 302)

    Exceeded all expectations

I put in an Airaid CAI 2 years ago but didn't do any tuning; at the time I didn't have the interest. Plus, I didn't want to lay out that much money at once. However, recently the tuning bug hit me and I've been itching to tune my GT. I was all set to order the X3 but I saw the X4 had just been released and I figured for the couple extra bucks, there was no question to get the X4. The screen is very nice and crisp to look at. It is plenty bright whether you are in the dark or in direct sunlight. The wireless feature is quite handy as a lot of times, the USB cable isn't right there when you need it. The interface is very user-friendly and intuitive. I was sure to update the unit's firmware right away as that was recommended upon first opening the box and examining the contents. As for the tunes, I am floored by the amount the GT has woken up. I loaded the 93 Performance tune and just night and day difference over stock. I immediately noticed just pulling out of my street! Once I got on the highway, well all bets were off and in a split second I was over 80mph. Even my fiance was impressed by the difference! Once again, AM was great in answering my email questions and getting my X4 to me fast and Bama did an awesome job with my tunes. Thanks so much and I will no doubt be recommending and praising both of you.

    This Tuner Is Amazing

At first i was very unsure of getting a tuner 1. because my car doesn't even have 5 thousand miles and 2. because well would it really help my performance that much for the price? after some time I caved and ordered it. A birthday present to myself. best decision I could have made. took maybe 15 minutes to do everything. took it out right after, i noticed a difference immediately. Then when I took it out on a back road to see what changed through the power band it was night and day. getting this product is worth every penny!

Review from Steeda Cold Air Intake (11-14 GT Manual)

Horrible Instructions, Poor finish, Performs as CAI should.

I bougt this as part of a package with the SCT Tuner. The instruction that come with the CAI are horrible! Ther are on a single sheet of two sided paper. Some of the pictures are reversed left to right as if they are mirror images. The screws, washers and nuts are all lumped together in a plastic bag with no labels to identify the different sizes. The heat shield is unpainted cut and welded sheet metal that I cut my finger on. There were numerous scratches on the interior of the box that the filter sits above. The outside is protected by peel off PVC but the inside isn't. his didn't happen in shipping as it was wrapped in paper. The rubber gasket that seals the box to the hood doesn't stay on the box. It fortunately did line up with all the stock hoses and mounting places. There are no included instructions on how to maintain the filter. It seems to work OK. I installed the Bama 93 Street tune with it and the results are astounding. I called Steeda for a replacement upper gasket as I wasn't happy with the way mine came out. They charged me $4.88 a foot for 4 feet. If I had to do it again,I would probably look to another brand of CAI.

    Free tunes for life?

Within the description on your site for this tuner, it say to contact Bama for the free tunes for life when I want to have another tune created. I did contact Bama and they told me I have to find a local dyno shop that does tuning and go there for my tune? Your site says all you have to do is contact Bama and they'll create the tune and email to me. So.....what is the process?? I am a bit disappointed that I was told to find my own shop. Are they contracted by Bama to create my new tune(s) at no cost?? I'd like someone from AM to respond and explain the process.

    SCT X4 Programmer

I was looking to add some extra muscle to my GT and bought the X4 as soon as it became available. I had read all the reviews I could find and even talked to the folks at SCT. The new X4 is by far the best programmer to date. Its ease of use and the new wifi capability made installing firmware updates a breeze. It can also be mounted in the car and coupled with the data logging ability, provides a easy to see read out. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a small, light, and powerful programmer.

    Steeda CAI

Well all I can say is WOW! The intake was relatively easy to install and the car felt great until it grenaded cylinder 8! Now I have a brand new car with 4200 miles on it that will have to go in for warranty "if the cover it" and have the engine repaired. After feeling a slight miss at idle and the CEL coming on I scanned it to find a code P0308 and pulled the plug on cylinder 8 to find it covered in oil which seems to be a broken ring land on a piston from what the others I've found who have the same problem were told. This sucks! But hey it's a great product! LMAO!

Impressive HP Gains and Ease of Use with Bama X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner

You can't beat free tunes for life and with the addition of the Steeda Cold Air Intake the "seat of pants" increase of performce was amazing. The tunes really woke up my 5.0 6-speed and I couldn't be more pleased with the results and the performance gains. I have the Track Pack with 3:73 gears and it feels like I gained substantial HP and feels like a different more powerful engine. I'm enjoying all the features of the new X4/SF4 Tuner and it's ease of use. Who would have thought it was so quick and easy to order Tunes for different octane ratings and receive them in an email so fast....I'm very happy with this product.

    Giddy Up Go

The new S4 is great so easy to use, fast, and is a lot better looking than the previous x3 model by a mile. Load the Bama Custom Tunes and you will definitely feel the difference on the butt dyno. I know the 91R Cam tune really let my car Giddy Up Go and the idle just sounds like good old American Muscle .This tuner will really wake your pony up and let it out of the stable, it's a great place to start if you want to get a little more out of your mustang for a decent price and let's face it you pretty much need one of these for most major bolt ons so why not start here .

Review from Steeda Cold Air Intake (11-14 GT Manual)

    Best CAI

I had the Airaid CAI. I decided to buy this one instead but of the big number difference. As soon i put this on, i felt immediate better throttle response, and power! ALSO, for the whistle lovers...this makes a lot higher of a whistle sound than the airaid. i wish i would of bought this first. only problem i had is the MAF sensor, the torx/torq bolt what ever they are called they were not threaded threat. so something went wrong somewhere, i took the sensor off and they went in perfect. but as soon as i tried to tighten the sensor up it just did not work so it stripped the screw out (not my error i know what im doing) so i had to go buy new screws and have a mechanic install it.

Review from Steeda Cold Air Intake (11-14 GT Manual)

Great product but heat extractors cause for concern.

Once installed I like the intake. It really changed the engine sound in the upper RPMS and has an almost turbo diesel truck style whistle sometimes. It looks good under the hood which is something I was looking for. AirAid would have been better but the huge yellow logo was a turnoff. The one I received was black and not stainless which I didn't mind other than the Steeda sticker is now black on black so it defeats the purpose of installing the sticker. Issues: The weather stripping is a pain because I'm meticulous and would have loved for it to have been installed already. Longest part was putting the intake together with the horrible instructions. AM has more detailed instructions than the ones in the box. 20-30 minute install once assembled. Water is allowed to get on the air filter through the heat extractors which I do not like but the only way around it would be the AEM since it is covered. I'm not sure if it will allow it in rain conditions but it got wet when I washed it today. I also feel like since the bottom of the heat extractors goes over the filter it would funnel hot engine air into the cone instead of it going up through the extractors. The metal heat shield/MAF tube could also increase the air temp because I had the MAF tube inside the car while at work and could barely touch it. I still feel like I made the right decision but if AirAid changed their logo I would recommend that one instead.

    As expected

Did I see 44hp increase? Doubt it. Maybe 20.. I do feel a massive pull at the higher rpm though. The tuner will come in handy for mods down the road. It was fairly easy to install even though the directions were slightly flakey.. Not the greatest bang for the buck, but it will probably enhance future mods so I'm okay with it.
