How To Install a Steeda Cold Air Intake on your 2007-2009 GT500 Mustang

Installation Time

1 hours

*Note:

This Cold Air Kit was designed for use with a computer upgrade. Do not install this unit without retuning the factory computer.

Removal of factory air filter assembly

1. Disconnect the mass air meter wiring harness by depressing the red tab and pulling away the plug from the meter.

2. Remove the bolt that holds the air filter assembly to the inner fender. Figure 1

3. Loosen the hose clamp that attaches the factory flexible intake tube to the meter.

4. Remove the factory air filter box assembly and OE intake tube.

5. The mass air sensor is attached to the factory air filter box cover and must be removed for re-use in the new Steeda meter. Using a 20T Torx wrench, remove the factory mass air meter sensor from the air filter cover assembly and set aside.

Installation of the Steeda Cold Air Induction Kit

8. To assemble the new Steeda cold air kit you must attach the Steeda billet air guide

to the provided shield by passing the 6mm bolts through the shield and screwing them

into the mounting holes of the air guide. Use the provided 6mm washers along with the bolts. Figure

9. Use some black adhesive/gasket maker silicone around the rectangular opening in the new plastic intake tube, Figure 4. Let it dry for a couple minutes to become tacky. Then use the provided Black #8 screws and from the inside of the tube attach the billet sensor mount with the Steeda name facing up Figure 5/6. Use a drop of red lock-tight on the treads of the screws holding the sensor mount in place. Once dry insert the mass air meter sensor (removed in Step 5) into the Steeda billet sensor mount using the provided Silver #8 screws. Take care to install the sensor with the exposed metering wires facing the incoming air flow (flow arrow on factory sensor pointing towards the engine).

10. Fit the edge molding onto the new shield. Install the Steeda cold air assembly into the factory location by inserting the studs on the underside of the Steeda shield into the grommets installed in Step 6. Make sure the studs on the bottom side of the shield pass through the factory rubber grommets, with the shield completely seated. Relocate any wires that will prevent the cold air shield from completely seating in the grommets.

11. Install the Steeda intake tube and Steeda air filter. Make sure the intake is positioned so the sensor mount is facing the engine. Then, tighten all the hose clamps. Note the two larger hose clamps (#88) are used at the throttle body end of the intake tube.

12. Using the provided 7/8” hose connect the vacuum fitting removed in step six to

the corresponding fitting on the Steeda intake tube with the two small hose clamps.

13. Connect the small vacuum line to the opposite side.

14. Reinstall the wiring harness to the mass air meter sensor. Re-check all clamps, bolts and the sensor connector. Be sure to retune the vehicle before starting your engine.
