Reduces Engine Sludge. In your S550 GT Mustang's 5.0L engine, crankcase exhaust "blow-by" is re-circulated back through your PCV system and intake, taking with it large amounts of oil vapors which can gum up your engine. A Steeda Air/Oil Separator (a.k.a. catch can) installs in your PCV line to filter out this contaminated oil vapor before it can re-enter your engine's intake and cause damage.

Superior Materials And Quality. CNC-machined in the USA from aerospace grade billet aluminum for superior durability, this Steeda Oil Separator is completed in a black anodized finish for impressive good looks. The base can easily be removed for draining during routine oil changes and is designed with a rubber o-ring for a tight leak-free seal.

Straight Forward Installation. Installation of this Steeda Oil Separator is straight forward, it simply splices into the existing PCV line on the passenger's side with the provided fittings.

Application. This Steeda Oil Separator kit is designed for use on 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the DOHC Coyote 5.0L V8 engine . Designed for direct installation on the passenger's side only (same side as the PCV valve).

I have a manual 2017 Mustang GT fitted with a Whipple 2.9 S/C stage 2 and wish to install Steeda oil separator/s, can you advise if the best option is to install 1 or 2? I wish to delivery the best long term outcome for the motor.

  • The PCV is on the passenger side of the vehicle, so (1) would be optimal, however, (2) could indeed be used. The Steeda Oil Separator does not have the appropriate connectors for your Whipple and therefore would not work. The JLT V3.0 Black Oil Separator, item 399751, does have the appropriate connectors for a Whipple Supercharger. We do not carry a separator of the driver side at this time, we apologize. https://www.americanmuscle.com/jlt-v30-black-oil-separator-passenger-side-1517-gt-w-whipple-supercharger.html

HI What filtration/separation medium is used internally to actually separate the oil from the air?

RexE

  • The Steeda Oil Separator separates the oil from the air blowing the oily air through a filter. The oil droplets are trapped in the filter while the air passes through. The lighter air molecules escape through the holes, while the heavier oil droplets fall all the way to the bottom, where they can be removed.

    Nice Product, well built can.

Over all this is a really nice product for the price. The only complaint I have are the cheap plastic fittings. They create plastic burls that you will have to be conscience of and make sure you remove them from intake and exit fittings. If you don't you will be pumping small pieces of plastic through your engine. I can't imagine that being a good thing. I would assume they are strong enough to handle any pressure in the tube since the tube connectors from the factory aren't the strongest clamp to begin with. Other than that, the amount of tubes, clamps, and fittings that come with the can are second to none. It gives you tons of options of where you want to mount your can and in my case I cut the original tube just a little too short and was able to have a second chance at it with the additional tube they included that is identical to the one from the factory, (thank you Steeda!) They definitely put thought into that part. After messing up the first one, I was able to get a second crack at making a perfect fit. Since there is no flex in the factory tube, it's important to make sure you cut the tube in a place that gives a natural space in front of the heads. They give you plenty of elbows, straight fittings, clamps, fuel line style tube, extra factory tube, and decent instructions. The can itself feels very solid and very well machined. The cap feels very smooth and precise with a nice rubber seal. Even thought I don't like the plastic fittings, I would have no hesitation recommending this product or buying it again. It looks nice upon installation and I have no doubt it will add an additional layer of protection.

    Simple install

So I was a little concern about the instal and also comparing reviews with the JLT. I then talked to an American muscle tech and he told me what is up with it. It's pretty simple. Nothing flashy. Cones with a bunch of connectors. Don't use the gray straight ones, they look nice but so hard to feed them into the hose. Use the black connectors. I was a little worried with the connectors that I would get plastic shards stuck into the oil catch. So I threaded them in and out to get rid of the plastic shards. If I had to do it all over it would only take me 15 minutes, but I was being conservative about cutting my factor hose even though the catch cones with a second hose. Definitely recommend if you like some hands on work that isn't necessarily plug and play.
