steda short shifter I have a 2013 GT. what does a SHIFTER BASE BUSHING do for the installation of a Steda Short Shifter?? stan

    • It will give the whole assembly a firmer, more precise, more solid feeling. The shift bracket will make more difference in the shift experience than the shifter itself in my opinion. (I have the Steeda shift bracket and short shifter.)

      Great shifter

Was looking for something to help with high R.P.M. lockout. Shifter is definitely more solid than stock shifter. The 20 shorter throw seems to be ideal even though this is the first short throw I've had. Hardly ever miss a gear now.... much better than stock. Took less than two hours to install. One note on installation.... I have the blowfish racing bracket so I don't know if this made the difference. The instructions say's to install the spacer plate under the shifter, which I did. But then I could not shift into reverse... so I had to remove it... problem solved, I put the heavy duty spring in because the other seemed soft. It is some what difficult to get into reverse, and requires a little muscle... don't know if the heavier spring made it that way or not, that's why I give a four rating.

      Smooth Operator

Really easy to install. Smooth short shifts. I combine this with a blowfish bracket. Haven't had a single gear lockout since. Feels like a whole new transmission.

      Much Better than Stock

I was tired of doing track days or the strip and missing 2nd to 3rd shifts and thought I would give this shifter a try. The Steeda Tri-Ax was a pretty straightforward install, I choose to go with the stiffer spring included in the package to avoid any issues with reverse lock-out. I was really surprised to see that the factory ford shifter was mostly plastic at the base and pivot point and actually had some play. Big difference first time to the strip, no missed shifts, good quality, I would recommend.

It's pretty good but sometimes the reverse lock does not work it happen twice and when you down shift sometimes second gear won't shift from 3rd to 2n

The safety reverse lock does not at all times and when you down shift from 3rd to 2nd I wont go to 2nd gear it that's all the flaw over all its pretty good

      Much Improved

Combined with the Steeda shifter bracket this is light years ahead of what comes stock in the car. I had installed the shifter bracket last summer with the stock shifter, and it was a good improvement, wish I had just bought the combo last summer as this improves the transmission 100. The install took about an hour, only because I had to take the shifter and shifter bracket off the car as I needed to install the spacer provided in the kit on the shifter bracket (the car wouldn't go into 1st or 2nd). After that it was smooth sailing. Compared to stock the shifts are more precise and positive. 1st to 2nd on my car was a bit vague originally (I've had it happened a few times where second gear wasn't fully engaged), after installing this you know that it is in gear. The throws are a bit shorter, nothing drastic but definitely an improvement. As far as quality goes this is much, much better than stock. The stock shifter uses a ton of plastic and the base plate is pretty flimsy stamped steel. NVH increases a bit, but the positives offset the negatives by leaps and bounds.

      Sudden noise

I installed this shifter a few months ago and have been very happy with it, but now, very suddenly I have a nasty, plastic-like noise when going from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th, or 4th to 3rd. It is not the normal, dull thunk from down low, but an irritating noise from higher up. Any ideas?

      Great Product From Steeda AGAIN!!!

I installed this shifter along with the Steeda shifter base bushing with the black insert and the Whiteline Trans mount. This is how the car should shift and drive. I have always used Steeda shifters in all my Mustangs because I've always had good luck with the fit and finish. There is an increase in NVH, but having said that, you shouldn't care if you're on this site buying parts anyway!! If you're worried about that you should sell your Mustang anyway. Ford should take notes and stop engineering these cars for the 60+ crowd that doesn't want ANY feedback from their driving experience!! These three mods are a must have for the mushy driveline set up that we were given from Ford!!

Cleaned up some of the shifter slop!

The Steeda shifter obviously lowered the amount of throw in the shifts but it also cleaned up some of the sloppiness of the shifts. Under acceleration the 2-3 shift had me pulling my hair out... The shifts were far more precise and felt more like the shifter was being forced to the next gears position. That being said under hard acceleration the 2-3 shift was still sloppy. I recommend getting the shift mount bushing as well to clean up the shifts. Picked one up and it completed the setup. You will get some NVH from this set up but it is minimal.

      Steeda shifter

It is a good shifter but the OEM is pretty good its self. Shifts are a little shorter and it hits that 2nd to 3rd better than stock.

The way the shift should be.

I daily drive my mustang and only plan on light modification. I did not like how flimsy the stock shifter seemed and I wanted something that was built better. I purchased the STEEDA shifter w/ the STEEDA bushing. The install took less than 1 hour. The product is well built no complaints there. However the amount of grease inside the shifter was very minimal and instructions were terrible, for instance it says "See Fig. 1" There was no Fig. 1 labeled just pictures, only Fig. 6 and 7 were labeled. However I am experienced so I did not even need them but for someone who does not know how to do much of this they could make a better install manual. I do recommend STEEDA to include some extra grease and torque ratings for the bolts as I could see many people strip the 4 shifter bolts. The shifter is an improvement over stock and is what stock SHOULD be so I am happy because that is what I was seeking. Other than the poor instructions and no included grease I give it a 3.5 out of 5. If you want something with more performance go with BARTON or MGW.

Very satisfied overall. Not quite as smooth as I was hoping, but thats more likely the trans than the shifter, throws are just right.

      Big upgrade

Installed this as well as the steeda bracket and WOW what a difference! This is how it should be. Easy to find gears, fast and accurate shifts. Install of the shifter itself was very simple, Did have some trouble removing the factory bushing but other than that it was straight forward.Wish i would have done this sooner.

      a lot of fun

this is a great product for a couple reasons. 1 it was easy to install it took about half an hour. 2 it works seemlesley, really happy with its performance. 3 and most importantly it picks up all the slack the stock shifter had and is a ton of fun to slam threw the gears with. also suggest burton shifter bracket for the "spirited shifters" out there like me ;)'

      Great shifter, excellent quality

I got this shifter today and put it on my 2011 v6 in about one and a half hours with no issues! The only tough part was aligning the handle to go into all gears smoothly, turns out needed more grease on the pivot ball, other than that its shorter and has a really good solid feel to it! Its definitely worth it, especially if you heel and toe or do any type of performance driving! Can't go wrong with steeda products, and American muscle got it to me fast and care free as always!
