How to Install Trufiber Carbon Fiber Window Switch Covers (15-18 Fastback) on your Ford Mustang

Installation Time

25 minutes

Tools Required
  • Plastic or Non-Marring Pry/Trim Tool
  • T20 TORX Bit

Difficulty: DIY-able, though care should be taken to not damage any existing parts

Note: Though carbon fiber is known for its strength, you should still handle the window switch covers with care. It is easy to scratch or damage, and when damaged cannot be easily repaired.

Installation Instructions

1. Begin by taking your plastic trim tool or other non-marring pry tool and inserting it between the existing plastic cover and the door. Go around the entire outer perimeter of the window switch, carefully releasing the plastic clips securing it in place.

2. Continue with the rear section of the switch cover. Be careful here, as this part is pretty thin and easily breakable. Once all of the clips are unsecured, pull and wiggle the entire window switch cover up and off the door. Make sure to disconnect the connector attached to the cover.

3. Remove all of the plastic clips and the window switch itself. The window switch can be slid out of place once the four plastic clips are unsecured. I find the best method is to slide a tool under the bracket holding the tabs in place while pressing down on the button from the other side.

4. Reinstall all of the plastic clips and slide the window switch into the carbon fiber cover. If you lose any clips during the removal process, foam tape can provide additional security; however, taking your time to remove the cover and pulling and wiggling straight up when removing it can prevent losing the clips in the first place.

5. Plug the connector back into the window switch, and press the carbon fiber window switch cover into place. The plastic clips should snap into place, securing the window switch cover.

6. At this point, installation of the passenger side window cover is complete.

7. Repeat the previous steps for the driver’s side window switch cover. The only difference in this case is that you will need a T20 TORX Bit in order to unscrew the window switches from the cover, and reinstall them into the carbon fiber cover. Once that cover snaps into place, you’ll find yourself complete with the installation.
