Great product!

Only reason I donto give it a 5 start is cuz if you try to put it in yourself, it's really confusing. (Well considering I just free balled it) but once I git it in it worked great!

I have the 40th Anniversary 2004 Ford Mustang 4.6L Convertible. How can i tell if my motor is bad? Ive put the window down and now it won't go back up. But it has done this twice in the past and started working again. It worked for a long time since it happened last. Could it be a short in the wiring? Oh yea by the way its my front drivers side window....

Tim

  • It could be the wiring, or a bad motor or regulator. The best way to be sure is to take the car to a shop and have them diagnose it.

How can you tell if you need this motor or if you need a regulator as well? I'd much rather just purchase one or the other if possible.

How do I remove door panel to replace window motor?

JohnC

  • The 94-98 and the 99-04 have slightly different procedures for removing the door panel, but they are only held on by a couple screws and clips and should come off easily. Some of these screws are behind the insert with the window switches, which should pop right off. I'd recommend looking up a video guide online for more detailed instructions.

2002 ford mustang small rear window. DOES THE WINDOW MOTOR HAVE A REGULATOR WITH IT.?

KEN

  • No, it is just the motor. You can find the regulator here: http://www.americanmuscle.com/window-regulator-lh-9604.html Or buy the combination here: http://www.americanmuscle.com/power-windowregulator-9404-lh.html

Exactly the same as OEM, in fact I would say better ! This motor seem to have more torque as windows operate much faster.

My rear quarter window would not go down on my 1996 Mustang GT. I replaced it with this new motor on American Muscle and it works great now. I'm very satisfied.

    Great replacement/upgrade !

After already replacing the 3 plastic bearings that had practically exploded within the original unit, which was causing it to slip, the thing just finally decided to quit on me in the parking lot at work in the down position. Of course! I had taken the door panel off enough times that is has become routine. The new motor plugs right in, and has a longer wiring harness than factory. It is slightly thicker than the original and was a tight squeeze trying to get it into place. The motor not only works, but is much faster and should hopefully last for another 22 years to come. Plus I had it at my door with free shipping the next day, within less than 20 hours from ordering. Thanks AM !

Solid, But Not Same Tolerances as Stock, No Instructions

Had to use the internet to figure out how to get at the motor (rear window install, 99 Cobra), no instructions are included. Once I got to it, installation went well, until I tried the window, new unit just sat and ground against the half moon gear. Figured out that the distance between the mounting flange and the end of the gear was different between this unit and stock by a millimeter. So I removed the motor from this new unit and put it on the gear assembly of the old unit and it worked. I bought this unit because the old window motor was very slow, it was a little faster/stronger with new motor, but not much, got more speed gain once I lubed the regulator tracks. So, I wouldn't buy this product unless you're window motor is completely dead, and even then know that it could be a fiddly job. Plus side, wiring harness perfect fit to stock wiring harness.

Good product, good service, and simple install

I ordered this product on the 18th and it arrived the 21st in Hawaii, so shipping was extremely quick. Simple to install, took about 20 mins. Hardest part was getting the gear to sit properly on the scissor. With the Mach 1 the speaker is hard to get off of the door so be wary of that. In short, good product, good service, and simple install, can't argue with that.

03 driver side window motor replacement

Great product! Swapped out the old window motor that stopped working for this aftermarket one and works perfectly now. Install was a little bit of a challenge. And after some cursing and swearing and patience the old came out and the new was in. No instructions come with it, so after some figuring out and remembering how the old came out everything was back in place. Thanks AM!

    Works as it should

The installation of the window motor went well. I installed it on the driver's door window. I went through the speaker opening and there were no problems. The wires were a little longer than needed but I just made sure the excess was near the plug and away from the window mechanism. The original motor has a metal backing plate and this one has a plastic one. Not sure if that will make a difference in the life of the motor but for now it is working well.
