Review & Install Video
Hey, what's going on, guys? Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today, I'm bringing you a detailed review of the Anderson Composites Type-GT front upper grille in the carbon fiber finish, fitting the factory front bumper of all 2015 and newer Mustangs. So in this video I'll be touching on the styling and appearance you can expect when picking up this front upper grille, as well as the materials and construction given the nature of its true carbon fiber finish. I'll also walk you through the installation, which I'll tell you upfront will get a solid one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Very simple install, anybody can do with just a little bit of time at home. So let's jump right into it.
The Anderson Composites Type-GT front upper grille in carbon fiber is gonna be for all 2015 and newer Mustang owners out there who have the factory front bumper installed and might want to keep the OEM front upper grille design but want to switch out the boring matte ABS plastic look for a very aggressive, very exotic carbon fiber finish. The Type-GT front upper grille in the carbon fiber finish will keep that three-window design on your Mustang currently and will fit the front factory bumper on all GT, V6, and EcoBoost models, but it will, however, replace that factory horizontal bar design with a very nice ABS plastic mesh look, but it will also replace the matte black ABS finish of the three-window with a true carbon fiber completion. Now, I do want to point out with the honeycomb mesh on the background there are actual pins back here. You can remove and take this entire backing off.
Now, this, of course, will help improve airflow to the engine. I wouldn't say at all you will expect any kind of power gains, but I will say this will help with cooling capacities which of course is always beneficial. Price-wise, if you are interested in the Type-GT front upper grille in carbon fiber, expect to be spending just about 450 bucks, which sounds pretty pricey, but you do want to take into consideration that is a very common price tag for 100% real carbon fiber parts for the new S550. And, of course, with this you are getting a very durable, very lightweight addition to the front end of your S550. A lot of bang for your buck here if you are looking to spend that much.
Switching gears over to the installation portion of the video, I do want to point out that you will be having to remove your factory front bumper. You'll reuse your factory hardware, but once you get that bumper off it is a very, very smooth sailing job from there. Definitely gonna get a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, but let me walk you through it. To kick things off you want to pop open your hood on your S550 and remove the top radiator cover by prying off a couple of clips. There are a couple of bolts underneath that that hold on your factory front bumper. There's also a couple more clips in each one of the front wheel wells as well.
Now before you remove the front bumper altogether, you do want to make sure you unclip your lighting harness so you don't pry that off as well. Now once you get your front bumper off and you're laying it on a table or towel of some sort so it doesn't get damaged, you will have to pry off your factory front bumper using a flat head screwdriver or something of that nature. Once you get that popped off, you'll just place the carbon fiber option into place, reuse those factory clips to hold it on, and put everything back together just the same way you took it off. Now before you get everything back together, make sure you plug that lighting harness in before you complete it.
Now to finish things up, like I said, overall, about an hour or so on the installation, depending on how familiar you are with removing the factory front bumper and how comfortable you are with that job. Definitely gonna give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter because this is something anybody can do with just a little bit of time in that driveway at home.
All right, guys, just to wrap things up, if you're the owner of a 2015 or a newer Mustang with the factory front bumper installed and you're looking for a way to keep the design of your factory front upper grille but you want to switch up that matte black ABS look for a very aggressive carbon fiber finish, you might want to check out the Anderson Composites Type-GT front upper grille in carbon fiber, of course, available right here at americanmuscle.com.
