More Horsepower. The Accel Super Coil On Plug Kit makes more power then the wimpy stock OEM factory coils to help produce more horsepower from your 3.7L V6 engine. They are a perfect match for stock engines and engines with minor performance upgrades.

Superior Design. Accel Coils feature an advanced bobbin technology, highly specialized silicone magnetic steel cores, along with optimized winding, resistance and turns ratios to delivery 10-15% more energy than the factory OEM coils. Is there a way to change the color of the cap? The yellow is extremely distasteful. Is there any way to change this or to paint it?

    MotoRider42HC

    • I don't think they offer other colors but you could easily paint it yourself. Of course do it before install.

Estimated Hp increase? Just curious what the relative Horsepower increase is? Trying to figure in cost/hp worth.

    NeonLemon

    • Not sure of the HP, the throttle response is firm and quicker. I do noticed smoother idling. Hope is helps.

Does it require a tune? When I first started modifying, I installed a cold air intake and tuner from Steeda. About a month later, I installed a BBK throttle body and didn't alter the tune; I was told that I didn't need a newer tune with the newer throttle body. My car right now has the original Steeda tune that was required for CAI. If I were to install this super coil on plug kit, would I need a different tune than what I already have? And would a newer tune for what I already have plus this super coil on plug kit be an improvement over the tune I already have? Is there such a tune?

    Aussie

    • no the coils do not require a reflash(tune)

What are defined as minor performance upgrades? They are a perfect match for stock engines and engines with minor performance upgrades. ===>>>This is from the description. I have BBK CAI, BBK Throttle Body, Ford Racing X-pipe and Catbacks, with a performance tune.

    rolnwhy55

    • "Minor performance upgrades" are generally what others would call "Bolt on" or "Turn key" upgrades such as the mentioned CAI, and Throttle Body. Upgrades that do not drastically change the performance of the car but add to or complement OEM equipment. Major performance upgrades are items such as forced air intakes to include super charger and turbo charger being some of the most common.

Suitable for Superchargers? I have a fully bolt-on procharged 3.7, is this coil kit suitable for FI applications?

    GFRESH

    • I'm also running the ProCharger on my 2014 3.7, along with BBK 73mm Throttle Body, BBK long tube headers, Single piece aluminum drive shaft, 3.73 gears sitting on a nice set of staggered Cooper ZEON RS3-S. I saw in the description ... "More energy equals a hotter spark that burns fuel more completely". Seeing as I had to buy cooler plugs once I put the supercharger on, I don't think this is the best idea for your set up. Besides, isn't 470 HP out of our V6 enough? Ok, you can never have enough :-) but not with these.

MPG Increase Can anyone tell me if they've seen any increase in MPG with these coils? I recently did some mods and lost 3 MPG (most due the the increased gear ratio I put on). Wondering how I might get back a couple MPG as I drive 110 highway miles a day.

    • Not really at least mine didn't do much. Get a chip that helps a lot.

      DO NOT PURCHASE

My first bad review ever!!!! I purchased these for my 2011 mustang and it was the worst purchase ever. Once you install them you cannot take them off to replace your plugs because the boots come off even with the grease, and the springs get stretched making these things worthless. You can forget about American Muscle or Accel doing anything about it.

      SMOOTH!

I read alot of reviews and most were spot on. There is a smoother idle, and I've noticed better response from the gas pedal. As far as mileage, the first tankful was 2mpg better than usual,... but I've been an angry driver so far on the 2nd tankful!! (It's the holiday season) Took a little over an hour 2 install.

Have not test run yet winter project

so far looks good, had one coil ohm higher than the other 5 so hope it works well. Would like to see AM sell the gasket to the upper manifold tho and include torque specs to the manifold. I had to also pull my Ford performance strut tower brace and busted one bolt off the tower. It wasn't from torquing but I I'll own up to it.

      They left me wondering

The coils were a great bolt on item. The longevity with the product is were the problem comes in. I was quite satisfied with the slight power gain. Less than a year or maybe a year to the date, I lost one, and had to try to find another one to replaced it. I think if AM is going to offer this product, they should also offer them as an individual product as well, and maybe at a slight discount if you had previously bought a 6 and or an 8 pack.

      I'm satisfied

I replaced plugs and coils on my V6 with 80,000 miles, FlowMasters, Cold Air and tune. The performance gain was noticeable, just don't know if you could tell the difference if comparing these against new OEM. I was expecting about a 4mpg increase, it was more like about 2.

      Nice replacement for factory coils

It was time for tune up on my vehicle and these were priced right with a nice upgrade. Just put on so I can not speak about gas mileage change or really horsepower bump. These were easy to install and seem to perform as well as if not a little better than factory. I would recommend to anyone needing to do a tune up.

      Good upgrade

There was an issue with the first set I purchased. Got the coils installed and one was bad contacted AMS on Sunday and the had a replacement set to me on Tuesday. Once the new coils where installed noticed a difference in idle and acceleration. Also had an increase of 4 mpg. So it was a pretty good purchase. The install was fairly simple took less than hour. Would recommend getting a new upper intake gasket wich is only available from ford. They are fairly cheap less than 20 dollars. Would also recommend if you are going to add a power adder nitrous or supercharger replace the spark plugs at this time also.

      Car A Little More Responsive

Since installing this part I noticed throttle response being a little more peppy due to the hotter spark. I also gained 1-2 mpg due to the more efficient burning of the fuel by the hotter spark.

      Good buy

Look good. OEM fit. Some increase in horse power. I didn't really feel the full effect until I downloaded a tune from sct. Then I felt a huge difference. JLT CAI,BBK tuned length headers,E3 spark plugs and a 93 Oct tune from Bama.

      Terrible Quality

The rubber boot and sealing is very cheap quality. When I performed a spark plug change and decided to take these Accel coils out, all of the rubber boots stayed in each cylinder attached to the old spark plugs even when previously installing them with a generous amount of lube. I had to go out to the store to buy to an extended needle nose plier to go in each cylinder and rip the boots out. Awful experience with these. I went back to stock but am going to the Granatelli Coils a try in their future.

At first I was a little skeptical about these, but man am I glad I purchased them I noticed instantly better off the line start,in my opinion these are a must have mod. It took me about 2 hours to install it's actually not that hard and I don't have much experience working on cars.

Accel Super Coil On Plug Kit (11-16 V6)

THESE COILS ARE SO LAME. I PURCHASED THESE AND SIX MONTHS LATER CYCLINDER #2 STARTED HAVING ISSUES. THEREFORE, I WON'T BUY THEM AGAIN. A BUNCH OF HIPE BECAUSE IT REALLY DOESNT DO ANYTHING TO THE CAR. YOU CAN ONLY MAKE SO MUCH HORSEPOWER ON A V6. TO TURN THE V6 INTO A BEAST YOU HAVE TO ADD A PROCHARGER FOR 470 RWHP. THIS IS THE ONLY SOLUTION - PROCHARGER IT. IN 2 YEARS i'LL BE DOING A 5.4L SWAP.
