- How to Install a Airaid Cold Air Intake on your 2011-2014 Mustang GT
Justin from AmericanMuscle.com, we're here with Chris Thompson from Airaid. He stopped by the shop to tell us a little more about these great Airaid products. We're very familiar with Airaid; we use them on our project cars with great success. Chris, what can you tell us about Airaid that makes it so unique? "Everything we do is digitally designed. It's engineered to fit, it's engineered to work, it's engineered to work without any special tuning. Now, tuning is much, much better. You guys offer a lot of great choices in aftermarket tuning. It'll only enhance the performance of the Mustang. We design our intakes so there's no special gluing required, there's no cutting or hacking of the engine required. If somebody decided to put a stock intake back on, they don't have to go back to Ford to buy another part to put the piece back on. Every intake we do is digitally designed. It's all about the design of the airflow and the linear charge to the throttle body. We use the rotational molding not so much for the heat soaking, but for the shape of the tube we can come up with. By using the rotational molding, it allows us to really give the right shape and form to make sure the product works well." We're very excited—we've got our 2013 Mustang here, probably not even 10 miles on this thing yet, and we already have an Airaid intake on it. Tell us a little more about that. "This is awesome. We're really excited to be here today. This is the first Airaid intake on a 2013 Mustang. We're really excited to be here with you guys. As you can see it fits. We know for sure it fits. We believe we have a hit. We'll do a little bit more testing on it before we release it to the public, but that should happen anytime now." Now, you were telling me earlier, you're working with some legends in the Mustang world. "Well, we're excited about working with Parnelli Jones and his son PJ. Parnelli's been instrumental in helping us come along with the Boss 302 intakes we're trying to develop. Nobody knows the heritage of the Boss 302 better than Parnelli Jones. We worked with PJ on the side by side utility vehicles (Razors, Rhinos, and TRX's). We also sponsored him in the past on his endeavors in the American Le Mans Series, which he ran last year." Chris, thank you so much for educating us on your great Airaid products. And as always, you can find those great Airaid products right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Let it breathe!!!!!
Good Construction. pretty simple to put in. Makes under the hood look more aggressive. And having the option with the sleeve to add the tune later which will happen but it's nice having the option to have a cold air in the car and not have to have it tuned yet.Helpful (4)

Got it for the black filter
Had and Airaid in the past on a V6 and got one for my V8 but with the Black filter to match the theme of my 2013 GT/CS. Only wish they didn't put holes in the air box for the rain shield so many have requested or offered an option without the holes since I would have preferred not to have them or the sound tube mounting hole. Otherwise, completes the under the hood look for my Mustang.Helpful (4)

Does as intended
I suspect it works just fine...all those comments about additional seat in the pants torque and HP...who knows. I previously had a CJ intake manifold, GT 500 oval throttle body, JLT intake and Lund tune...now that kicked butt, no questions there.Helpful (4)

This is the second time I’ve bought this product. I traded my first GT and instantly regretted it. After a year I was able to get another GT and this was the first ting I bought. Install is pretty simple and fits well. Airaid now included a shield for the filter so water doesn’t drip into the intake through the hood vents.Helpful (7)

As far as the intake, flawless! Every fits together perfect, it looks good, and it comes with the resonated delete which I recommend removing. So I paired this intake (no modular Venturi tube) with a 1 inch throttle body spacer, pypes O/R X-Pipe and MBRP 3 inch muffler deletes. 2011 GT Vert MT82 - 53k Miles made 401.1hp and 399.4torque at the rear wheels (custom dyno tune)Helpful (5)

This was a very easy install as stated in many other reviews. I did not notice any power gains with the addition. I did notice that on my 2012 GT premium with a Roush axle back mod the tone is much deeper. I did notice that I have a 1-2 mpg increase on the high way and about a 1-2 mile decrease around town, due the the fact that I love the low grumble and continue to keep stepping on the gas at every light... Seems a little pricey for the fact that it is just plastic. But overall good mod. DaveHelpful (5)

Air aid intake
I chosed the air aid because I wanted to run it without a tune. That's right no tune required for this beast. Install took 45 minutes and I felt the performance gains immediately. I was looking for a oil-less (dry) filter and this suites my needs. Easy to clean with no recharge kit needed. If I could do it over again I would of bought this months ago. I've struggled between this and the JLT. No regrets this was the intake for my 2013 gt. I've noticed harder pulls above 3500rpm and it puts that smile back on my face. I live in Houston where it can ran on a dimes notice. Haven't had any issue yet with water getting into my hood vents and bogging me down. (Knock on wood)Helpful (6)

Very easy installation more power looks nice under the hoodHelpful (5)
How much horsepower can you expect usually with a custom tune?
Is this intake carb legal? I'm in California and this is a must.
This intake is not CARB legal.
Does this intake come with the removable Venturi?
This intake would come with the removable venturi tube yes.
Does this product come with the rain shield?
This Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake does not come with a rain shield as the hood will stop rain from entering the airbox.
Will this work on a boss 302 intake
Unfortunately, the Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake with SynthaMax Dry Filter will not fit the Boss 302 Intake Manifold without modification.
The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaMax Dry Filter will use an expandable coupler to connect to the throttle body. The provided coupler may be able to stretch over the 90mm throttle body, or a step up coupler may be required.
This will only work with the 11-14 GT model Mustangs as the Boss 302 intake manifold is different and will not accept this cold air intake without modification.
I purchased a foam insert from JLT's website for about $10 and inserted it into the heat extractor on that side and it complete solve the problem. If you contact Airaid they will send you a water shield for free, but it covers the filter completely and in my opinion didn't look very good and is way more work that the piece from JLT.
Yes, the plugs are included so you can remove the sound tube if you wish.
Firstly a lot of people think that the oiled filters don't filter as well until they get dirty, also they could contaminate the MAF with excess oil and cause faulty readings possibly causing damage... I agree with the filter ability when clean, but having a MAF contaminated is not something that really happens unless you way over oil your filter when you recharge it. I bought the dry filter because it would take less maintenance over it's life, I don't have to buy a recharge kit when it gets too dirty, just wash and dry it, and I think it will filter better than the standard oiled filter while still increasing airflow over stock. Also I wanted the black filter. I hope that answers your question.
