    Ask a Question

I have a 2008 Bullitt, which from my understanding already comes with a short shifter. So my question is how much of a difference is there between my stock shifter and this product?

    mustang151

    • The 2008 Bullitt Mustang comes with the same shifter as a GT. The only difference between the two is the Bullitt comes with a special shift knob and boot. This Barton shifter will be significantly different from the stock shifter. This shifter will create quicker, more positive shifts.

Will I have to modify the shift boot at all to fit this on comfortably?

    Jared

    • This shifter is going to be a direct fit on the 05-09 Mustangs. If you are installing this on a 2010, minor modification will be required to the shift boot.

Would this work on a 2010 V6 mustang??

    EmmanuelD

    • No, The Barton Short Shifter for the TR-3650 will only be compatible for the 05-10 GT's.

Even in gear, the shifter still moves side to side as if yes in neutral. Is that normal.

    Onna

    • Due to the remote mounting style of your model Mustang's shifter, it is normal to experience small amounts of side to side play with the Barton Short Shifter.

do you need to use a jam nut with the flat stick handle with a aftermarket knob?

    Jstang17

    • The handles have a 12mm x 1.25 thread pattern which is the same as stock. Most shift knobs that follow this same thread should fit. Depending on the style of the aftermarket shift knob, you make need to use a jam nut.

Barton Shifter - how much taller is the handle/ball over stock I was wondering how much taller the Barton Stick/Ball combo is versus the stock knob height. Thanks - Kevin

    flexmiller

    • I got one of these for Christmas and the Flat stick is about an 1" taller than the stock shifter. The round shaft with either the Ball or Thumb is almost the same height as stock.

The way a shifter should be

I had the hurst competition shifter and I was extremely disappointed with how sloppy it was. So I decided to give Barton a shot and I'm sure glad I did. The quality is second to none and the slop from the previous shifter is no more. It feels great slamming through gears and I will only recommend this shifter for it is that awesome.

      Great shifter

Installed this with my son and was quite easy to do. Definitely a must have on the mod list. Shifts are so much faster now. It is a little notchy but I’d take that trade everyday of the week for the shortness of shifts. Should’ve bought this first.

      Worth every penny!

Easy Install, Looks amazing and the shifts are awesome. The arm is a little higher than the stock one but actually feels like a more natural position. Shifts are short and fast and the tactile feed back of it clicking in gear builds confidence that I'm really in gear. No road noise or vibration yet, but only installed it yesterday. Like the title says "It's worth every penny" only wish that American Muscle offered the Black version. Thanks AM for another great experience.

      Better than stock

Although better than stock, not exactly as high of quality as hoped. Very stiff often requiring testifying at stop lights to make sure you're in first gear and not third. One word of caution, your factory shift boot must be altered to fit and even though you can make it work, it will look as though you altered it. Would be nice to have known this upfront.

Barton Short Shifter - TR-3650 MUSTANG GT 06

Fits better than OEM and real solid construction, comes in 1 complete part just out with the old shifter and in with this one, makes every other shifter feel poor and cheap. Super easy install, 20-30 min tops and u will feel the quality within the first gear and then be hooked forever. A must have for real drivers.

      Soooo tight

I had the hurst billet competition short throw shifter and after time it broke down so I bought this shifter and paired it with the blowfish racing bracket hands down the best decision I've made so tight and accurate in each shift

      Just Great

I just recently installed the Barton short throw and wow, its night and day compared to stock. The sloppiness is all cleaned up and the throws are precise. You can really muscle this thing into gear and feel confident about it.

      Great upgrade from stock.

I bought the Barton shifter to help resolve sloppiness in my stock shifter. A vast improvement in the shift quality. The short throw makes shifting more precise, and fun to drive.

      Much better than Roush shifter

Previous owner had put in an aftermarket Roush shifter less than 10,000 miles ago ,which was very sloppy and too tall for my preference ..replaced it with Barton shifter and all is fine now

      Barton short throw

I like the quality of this product. Shifting is alot of fun eliminates the long throw from 2nd to 3rd. Only complaint is the boot in the 2010 does not work without modification. took a couple hours to install on Jack stands.

      My First Mod.....Love It!

This along with my Rousch CAI were my first mods approximately 5 months ago. This shifter is solid, notchy and I love it. Short throws for quick, tight shifting. Great feel to this Barton shifter and I definitely recommend it.

      Excellent product

This product is beautifully designed. Not to bad to install and defiantly worth the fair price and time to put it in. Nice stiff and crisp shift, missing gears are almost impossible. Hearing a pop noise is good when shifting into gears to know you've successfully shifted. This product is great and I would recommend to any manual transmission lovers. Not to short to take away from the shift but just enough to shift and make a quicker shift. Makes changing lanes a breeze

      Now that's Short

My stock shifter "Thumb" was starting to crack, top falling off, so I figured why not buy a short shifter that came with a new knob? I read about most of the shifters here and on other sites, and decided this was the best fit for me. I'm 6'4" with long legs and 1st, 3rd and 5th was a bit of reach for me with the seat in a comfortable position for the legs. This shifter, with the flat stick, moved those almost back to where neutral was and with the seriously shorter throw, I didn't hit the seat with my elbow when looking for 2nd or 4th gear, as they are still pretty much in the same position as stock. I do agree with others, with the stiffer return springs there is no way you will miss a 2nd to 3rd shift. That said with the left to right throw is shorter as well and I too had issues finding reverse, at first. I was just used to "reaching for the door handle" to get there and now its right there on the console. I have been driving with the since Christmas, and the only issue is it makes you want to drive faster. As for the install, the removal of stock shifter was easy, and the only obstacle on the install was getting the front mount around an arm that sticks out on the top of the transmission. The only bolts I took out held the old shifter in, and didn't really see a reason to pull out anything else. I did have the console off as I was installing the new Radio/GPS unit I got as well.
