- Mustang Le Mans Stripe Installation Guide
Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at our AmericanMuscle graphics lemans stripes options, fitting all 99-04 Mustangs. These stripes originated on the race track back in the 1950’s, and Carol Shelby later used the stripes on his race cars, eventually making their way over to the production model 60’s Mustangs, and of course the Shelby GT cars. These lemans stripes options from AmericanMuscle graphics are available in both 8 and 12” widths, and in your choice of either black, blue, white, red, silver, and matte black. All AM graphics designs are cut from high quality premium cast vinyl that has been designed to last for years without fading or peeling. In addition, all of our designs have been test fitted on our very own cars first, before being sent into production, basically ensuring a perfect fit every time. As for the install, this will take a little time so just be prepared. I will say that working with any vinyl can be a little tricky but we make it a little easier for you by breaking this kit down into three different sections, and by including some very detailed instructions which lay it all out for you clearly. It also helps to have the essentials with you – a spray bottle filled with soap and water mixture, the included squeegee, an exacto knife, some painters tape and a small pin just to release any bubbles that may get trapped. Again, this will take some patience, so that’s why we’re calling it 6 hours from start to finish, just to be safe. So while other cars may sport lemans stripes, I think there’s no denying they look best right here on a Mustang, so with that said be sure to check out some of our AmericanMuscle graphics lemans stripes, right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Not for the weak
Absolutely amazing product, the only draw back is it is VERY hard to install. Luckily some of my family came out and I got assistance from a professional vinyl worker (did not have car vinyl experience). It took from 8am-3:30pm with only a 30 min break for lunch. Worked on it in a garage which gave light but also out of the heat. Quite a bit of the product had to be cut and spliced to fit better on the car. I also have a hood scoop that required a bit of finesse. If you have no vinyl experience, this can be a very hard and daunting task. Take your time, look at photos and be careful.Helpful (8)

Hot Stripes Look Great!
I bought these 12 inch stripes over the summer 2013 and installed them over the course of a weekend or so. I have never worked with vinyl in my life, and this was definitely harder than I expected. It can be difficult at times to fit the stripes around the curves of the car. I had to layer mine at some points, but you can only really see it if you are within touching distance. The car looks great from far away, though. I thought that the stripes might look too wide, but now when I see other stripes I think that they look too skinny. Air bubbles and creasing can be an issue (but this was my first time using vinyl). You have to make sure that underneath the stripes are dry before you try to peel the top sheet off or the stripes will move. I thought it was great because they come as big sheets, so even though it's not a perfect fit for your exact hood or body style, you can manipulate them to whatever style you want and still make it look awesome. Not 100% professional at my level, but way better than having no stripes, and at least they're not crooked or cracking. Also, these stripes hold up great in all sorts of weather. I live in Texas and I thought that the extreme heat may cause some problems, but it absolutely does not. The stripes still look amazing, they're durable and once they're stuck, they're stuck. (Well... I haven't actually TRIED to get them off) the point being, no fading or cracking has occurred. Lastly, I was afraid that because I wanted to do my entire car that I might not have enough vinyl. I sure was wrong. I still have enough for touch ups if need be, and even enough to redo the hood if I get a new one! It has been one of my dreams since I was a little girl to own a car with racing stripes, so this vinyl was a God send. Overall great product, cheap, and it will definitely make your Mustang look fierce.Helpful (9)

Bought these for my 95 gt and they have been great! It's a very tedious process to get on but they are definitely worth every penny. I even had about 4 feet of vinyl left after doing the whole car! Great product!Helpful (8)

A little bit of a project to apply, But well worth it afterwards. I left a slight bit of room between the hood and the front of the stripes, So going to put clear nail polish on so bugs cannot hit the spot and make little rips in the front.Helpful (8)

So far I've spent about 3 1/2 hours installing my stripes. I just finished with the hood of the car. The complicated part was the hood scoop. Make sure your stripes are thoroughly saturated with a soap/water solution so they're more workable. The hard part is going to be the spoiler/chin spoiler. I managed to do most of the work myself, with someone holding the stripe firm at times while I removed the backing. I am going to try a different method when I attack the rest of the car- I will soak the stripes and remove the backing FIRST. It's a pain in the butt, but my car already looks a lot meaner and I'm glad to persevere. Be careful, they really do scratch and tear easily. Thankfully there is plenty of product to work with. However, if I wasn't so cheap/poor, I would have gone for a professional install or definitely an actual paint job... if I were able to pay for it, that is.Helpful (9)

I bought these stripes over black friday weekend. It took me roughly an hour to apply these stripes and they look fantastic. I will recomend these stripes to all my friends who own mustangs.Helpful (8)
Would these work on a Convertible? I have a Laser Red 2000 Mustang GT Convertible and i was wondering if this could work on my car.
Yes, you just won't use the roof portion.
Hood scoop problems? I have an 01 gt which comes with the non functional stock hood scoop so I was wondering if that would cause problems when trying to apply this to my car
