MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit - Black (94-98 All)
Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m here with a very popular product here on the site, and a must have for any SN95. I’m talking about MMD’s bolt on hood strut kit, for all 94-98 Mustangs, available in your choice of either blue, black, or chrome. MMD is an industry leading appearance brand, that has caught the attention of many Mustang owners out there, thanks to their cool and innovative parts for Mustangs of all ages. So what do they do? Well for one thing they completely eliminate the ugly factory prop rod, by using these two gas powered struts to hold the hood open, In addition they also make raising the hood a lot easier as well, which isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. As I mentioned earlier the kit is available in a black powder coated finish which we have installed on our 98 GT behind me, or a bright chrome finish, like I have here. Included in the package you’ll find both gas powered struts, along with the 4 necessary mounting brackets. This 100% bolt on kit installs easily in about an hour’s time and requires no drilling whatsoever. In fact, both the upper and lower mounting brackets install using the existing factory bolt locations. When you’ve finished up the installation, don’t forget to remove that factory prop rod, since you won’t be needing it anymore. Chances are when you pop the hood it’s either to show off what you’ve done, or to turn a wrench or two, you don’t want the hood prop in the way when you’re doing some work, and you don’t want some ugly piece of metal to be front and center when you’re showing off some new cold air intake. Do yourself and your engine bay a favor, and check out one of these MMD bolt on hood strut kits right here at AmericanMuscle.com

I have a after market fiberglass hood will these still work on them?
Yes, these will work on an aftermarket hood without a problem!
These look exactly like the trunk-lid struts. Are they the same? I ask because that would bode well for future availability of replacement struts.
Hello! The MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit does not use the same struts as the trunk.
I'd like to get this set for my '96 SVT. I read in the reviews people returning these because they don't clear CC Plates, I have MM one's on mine, can anyone who also has a '94-'98 Cobra with aftermarket CC Plates confirm for a fact that this kit will fit my car and not end up a return? If so, thanks!
I do not have a Cobra gut I do have a GT with CC plates and have no issues with the fitment of this product going on two years now. Not a hood rod prompting person anyway. You should be fine...
Carbon Fiber Hood? I see people saying they work great for fiberglass hoods, but I have a Carbon Fiber hood, and it's very very light, will these cause bowing when I go to shut the hood? Are they too strong for normal use? I also got rid of the factory hood latch and rely solely on hood pins to keep my hood down.
I also have a carbon fiber hood with only hood pins to secure it. I have had no issue with "bowing" of the hood when closing it. The only problem I had was installing it. The hood I have had wider reinforcement panels that ran paralell with the edge of the hood that interferred with the installation. I had to shim the bolts on the fender to allow clearance for the hood to close. Once installed I have had no problems with the struts, and love not have the prop rod in the way when workibg under the hood.
I have Maximum Motorsports, Caster/Camber plates, will this fit? Just wondering if the bracket will be able to fit with the CC plates i have on my car currently..?
Yes, I also have the Maximum Motorsports CC plates on mine and there is plenty of clearance. No concerns.

Very nice set of hood struts for the price, i was worried they weren’t strong, but when you open your hood you have to hold it while moving up because it will shoot right up

Doesn't fit cervinis
Doesn't fit a cervinis hood. Need to cut hood to make fit.

Works like a charm! Easy to install! Did it by myself. Took less than an hour to put on... Only thing I didn't like was that I had to reuse my old bolts instead of coming with New ones .. Lined up perfect...

Works well, but fitment isn't great
The install was simple and the instructions were clear, but there is some alignment that needs to take place to ensure an even hood gap on both sides along the panels. There isn't enough play in the mount for proper adjustment, but it's pretty close. The retaining pins for the struts are near impossible to get back in, they bend at even the slightest pressure, so be prepared for some frustration. The pistons make some odd noises as they come to their fully extended position, but that may be due to cold weather. They are strong though and stay open and closed well. I'll reserve judgment on those until the summer time. Otherwise, the kit does as promised and looks like it should last a good while.

1995 GT Mustang w/Cervini Hood
I put mine on with an aftermarket Cervini Hood. Slight front clearance issue, so I put 1 washer under top bolt between the bracket and hood hinge so bracket wouldn't hit the inside of the hood. This is a very heavy hood, but is held up nicely...Be careful not to lose the small clip like I did, they are very hard to find...

This is a great update for any model mustang. It is simple to do and gets that old rusty rod out of your face when your working in the motor compartment.

No more prop rod.
This product works great. No more cheap prop rod. I can unlatch my hood and then raise it with one hand and it stays up. Very Nice

My little pony...
My little pony deserves the best and these hood struts are simply awesome... they allow full access to the motor with no prop rod in the way... great buy!!!

these hood struts went in nice. much better than having to set up the hood prop every time you want to look under the hood

Great quality easy to install works and looks great, it does hit my aftermarket camber adjuster but will have to cut the hood bracket alittle to make fit without hitting

A must have
I do not know why this isn't 5 stars across the board. Easy install and now it's modern. Unfortunate 96 cobra was somewhat behind the times so that's my goal with my cobra is to get it more modern but the trick is to keep it a cobra at the same time.

Not for all hoods
Nice product but does not fit my surroundings are blessed I will have to cut into the fiberglass to recess brackets into the fiberglass Hood oh well nobody said it would be perfect but other than that nice product if you have a stock Hood

Hood strut Kit
I was totally Impressed on how well it went together and looks great I would recommend getting rid of the old hood prop and replacing it with a MMD Bolt on strut kit.
