      Review & Installation Video

Hey, guys, Stephanie with here with an overview and install of the Ford BOSS 302 Alcantara Suede Steering Wheel, for the 2010 to 2014 Mustang. In this video, we're going to look at a few different things with this steering wheel, but mostly we'll be talking about the styling and construction of the wheel, talking about the install, and showing you guys what this looks like installed, so you can see the full effect. I'll talk more about the install later, but this is an easy install, so I'm gonna call it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. The Ford BOSS 302 Steering Wheel is something that you're gonna want to check out if you're looking for a steering wheel upgrade that'll still keep the factory controls, with the factory airbag. And that has a factory-like feel, but that still gives you some upgraded looks and comfort over the factory steering wheel. This steering wheel is also a good option for someone that wants to capture some of that race-inspired feel that the 2012 BOSS 302 has, but that doesn't want to go all out with a true race wheel, or a setup that requires changing your hub and ditching that airbag. This steering wheel is original equipment on the BOSS 302. This isn't a replica wheel. This is the exact wheel that the BOSS comes from the factory with. Not only does that mean that it's gonna directly replace your factory steering wheel without the need for a different hub, but it means that you can keep the creature comforts of a factory steering wheel, and still have an upgrade in looks and feel. The sense that race-inspired design since the BOSS 302 is a factory car that's designed for the track. It is a contoured design, to give you a better grip, and that's different than the factory wheel. This gives you a bit more grip. The wheel is covered in this black Alcantara suede, and it's a very comfortable feel in your hand. The stock wheel is comfortable too, but the suede feels great, and I personally don't find it slippery at all. Styling aside, this steering wheel kit is a direct replacement for the factory steering wheel, and it's gonna come with the steering wheel as you see it here. It won't come with an airbag. You'll have to transfer over your airbag from your stock steering wheel. It's gonna come with bezels for your steering wheel controls, but the steering wheel does not come with a sync button, but that can be transferred over from your factory steering wheel. So, you do keep some items from your factory wheel, like your airbag, the sync button if you have it, and your hardware. If you have a 2010 to '12 Mustang, this wheel will fit any '10 to '12 that does not have a navigation system control on the factory steering wheel. Some GT500s have this feature, so just be aware of that. When it comes to price, you can expect to spend about $350 for this steering wheel. This is a touch more expensive than the other aftermarket options that are currently on this site, but this is made by Ford Performance, and it is an OEM part, so I'm not surprised by the price here. Those two factors usually tend to drive the price of parts up. And I don't think the price is crazy here for what you're getting between the quality and the comfort. As far as the install goes, I mentioned this earlier, but you're looking at a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and you can expect to spend an hour, tops. You just need a few basic hand tools, nothing crazy or out of the ordinary. You're gonna want to disconnect your battery, first of all, then remove your airbag from your factory wheel by unbolting it, wiggling it out of place and unplugging the two connections. The steering wheel does come with detailed install instructions that'll walk you through this. You need to disconnect the cruise control before moving the steering wheel, which is only held in by a few bolts. Once the stock wheel is out, you're ready for the BOSS wheel. You can make your electrical connections, which are all plug and play, bolt the wheel down, reattach the airbag module, and finish up your install. Wrapping things up with the Ford BOSS 302 Alcantara Suede Steering Wheel, this is the OE steering wheel that came on the BOSS 302. It has a race-inspired feel with its design and Alcantara suede covering, extra bolstering, and stitching. As always, I suggest you check it out more online for yourself. And for all things Mustang, keep it right here at

        302 Boss Suede

This steering wheel deserves all the 5 star reviews it has. The feel of the suede is HIGH QUALITY. The only down side is that the left control buttons aren’t functioning. I feel like that is on behalf my fault not the steering wheel. Overall easy plug and play install. It has the same connections for hub and airbag which is a plus! Must have ! The price is high but worth it PERIOD.

        *Caution* track pack gt owners.

Fit and installation was a breeze... if it was a simple plug n play. Since I have a track pack car (d-pad ok button) I had to swap steering wheel harnesses to still navagate screens. Other than that the steering wheel feels great.

        Best steering wheel!

It definitely feels weird at first but it’s amazing to touch and the grip for my GT premium/ there’s a video online on how to swap over all the controls from a GT premium to the boss 302 one and keep your features! Definitely awesome!

5 2005 GT - SeanD Installation Time: Afternoon

Nice upgrade for a 2005 GT

I bought this wheel because the steering wheel in my 2005 GT was looking worse for where. The cruise control buttons were starting to wear off and the silver spokes were getting scuzzy looking after 14 years. The wheel looks great and the Alcantara suede feels nice. The reason I gave it 1 star for fit was the buttons. IT IS NOT A PLUG AND PLAY DESIGN. The wheel and air bag will fit just fine but the plug is different that what is on an 2005 model. The wheel will work out of the box with regards to the horn and airbag but you will have to splice wires to get the buttons to work but it's very simple to do. Here is the link I used to get the cruise control up and running. I did not hook up the radio controls but the link will go over that as well. This is s great upgrade and don't be discouraged by the extra work needed to get this wheel to work. It is well worth the effort!

        Expensive, but worth every penny.

The steering wheel feels absolutely amazing in my hand while I drive, slight bit of cushion and I can whip it around with one hand with a lot more conference because of the feeling of more grip to it. My original wheel was starting to show signs of wear and tear so I figured I would try it out. The quality of the material is amazing, never going back to the stock wheel after this.

      5 Top Rated Questions

I have the bare bones base model. Will this steering wheel be compatible as a replacement for the plastic/rubber basic steering wheel with only cruise controls? And the bigger question I have is, if I remove the basic wheel and install this, is the wiring in place for the wheel mounted radio controls?

      • The Ford BOSS 302 Alcantara Suede Steering Wheel does not have the "Sync" button, but it can be transferred over from your existing steering wheel and will fit any 10-12 Mustang that does not have a navigation system control in the factory steering wheel as some GT500's may have. The wiring should not be in place, and that would be something that would need to be acquired directly from Ford.

What kind of adapter would I need to purchase to make the radio controls work?

      • In order to have the radio controls function when swapping out the steering wheel, your dealer needs to update the Audio Control Module (ACM). I'd call around to your local dealers to get an idea of what each place would charge as I've heard some may charge high amounts, while some others may not. Hope this helps!

does this wheel come with airbag and the cover?

      • No, you use your original airbag. Though it is recommended to get a pro instal, it is very easy to DIY. Just make sure to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes before hand.
