Late summer is peak season for car shows and cruise nights, with garages emptying out most weekends and classic car owners making the most of the last stretch of warm weather before fall. With the 2026 show season in full swing, we wanted to know where America's classic car culture actually runs the deepest.

To find out, we analyzed search interest in car shows and antique car clubs alongside Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) chapter counts in all 50 states, then built a composite ranking of each state's car show culture. Many owners treat the show season as their unofficial deadline, using it to debut a new paint job, a stereo upgrade, or a fresh set of aftermarket wheels and tires for muscle cars before rolling into the lot. Here's where that culture is strongest, and where it's still finding its footing.

• Pennsylvania has the most AACA chapters (32), followed by Florida and North Carolina, tied at 21 each. Seven states have zero chapters.
• Vermont has the highest antique car show search interest, 52.74 per 100K, followed by Alaska (32.55) and New Hampshire (29.67). California has the lowest, at 3.13, just behind Texas (3.37) and Arizona (4.98).
• Florida has the highest "car events near me" search interest, 58.65 per 100K, followed by Delaware (48.12) and Vermont (48.09). Louisiana has the lowest, at 13.21, just behind Oklahoma (15.04) and Iowa (15.75).
• Pennsylvania has the highest "car shows near me" search interest, 2,265.95 per 100K, followed by Wisconsin (2,147.91) and Delaware (2,029.34). Hawaii has the lowest, at 253.35, just behind Alaska (295.69) and Nevada (579.49).
• Rhode Island has the highest muscle car show search interest, 21.53 per 100K, followed by North Dakota (17.51) and Michigan (17.38). Texas has the lowest, at 2.49, just behind New York (3.35) and California (3.40).

Muscle car shows vs. antique car shows: Which state wins?

Not every state's car culture leans the same direction. Some regions are all about big-block muscle, while others are devoted to pre-war and antique iron.

Methodology

To determine the Car Show Capitals of the US, we analyzed two categories of data for all 50 states: search interest in car shows and antique car club presence:

• Search interest was measured using per-capita search volume from 2023 to 2026 across four terms: antique car shows, car events near me, car shows near me, and muscle car shows, each scaled to 100,000 residents.
• Antique car club presence was measured using the raw number of AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) regional chapters in each state.

Each of the five metrics was normalized to a 0-100 scale, with the four search terms averaged into a single search interest score. States were then ranked using a composite score that weighted search interest and AACA chapter presence equally. Data was collected in August, 2026 and may change.
