Review & Install Video

Justin here with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at this CDC unpainted ducktail spoiler for all 05-09 Mustangs. This spoiler was designed to create a look similar to the spoilers found on the late 60’s GT 350, and the GT500, and I have to admit they look right at home here on these modern S197’s as well. This 3 piece wing is constructed from ultra durable ABS plastic, which besides its ability to take abuse, is also going to be pretty lightweight as well. Of course this is an unpainted part so it goes without saying that you’ll definitely need to take it to your paint or body shop to have it prepped and paint matched to your ride perfectly like what we’ve done with our 07 torch red behind me. Ok, a couple of things when it comes to the installation, first, the new spoiler will not cover the holes left by your factory spoiler, so you’ll either need to plug the holes with the supplied plugs, or have your paint guy properly fill the holes and have your deck lid resprayed. Second, there is a fair amount of drilling necessary to get this wing installed properly. The kit does include the necessary templates for the drilling, so as long as you follow the detailed instructions, and take your time, you should have the spoiler installed in about 2 hours. This spoiler is a throwback to the classic GT350s and GT500s, and offer some very cool retro styling for your modern S197. Be sure to check it out right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Classic Retro Styling. Complete the retro inspired styling of your S197 Mustang with a Classic Design Concepts Three Piece Ducktail spoiler. The ducktail spoiler was originally featured on the early GT500's and looks great on the modern Mustang.

Hard Mounts. Classic Design Concepts designed their ducktail spoiler to mount securely to the rear deck lid of your 2005-2009 S197 Mustang with a combination of 3M acrylic bonding tape and bolts to increase the durability of the spoiler.

Quality Construction. This Classic Design Concepts three piece rear ducktail spoiler is made from high quality blow molded ABS plastic for its lightweight and durable properties.

Application. This Classic Design Concepts Ducktail Spoiler is designed to fit all 2005 to 2009 S197 Ford Mustang coupes including the V6, GT, and Shelby GT500.

Technical Note. This CDC ducktail spoiler will not cover the holes left by the factory spoiler. AmericanMuscle recommends professional installation of all body parts. We also recommended test fitting these products before they are painted.

The CDC Ducktail Spoiler has really made a big difference in the appearance of my Mustang. I really love how it looks. However, the install didn't go as easily as I expected. Of course, I had to remove the deck lid because I had to fill the holes where the original pedestal spoiler was mounted and I also removed the satellite radio antenna since I don't use that feature. After filling that hole as well and repainting the deck lid and the new spoiler, I went ahead with attempting to install the spoiler. I had previously used the supplied templates and marked and drilled the needed holes for the new spoiler before any of the paintwork was done. But when trying to install the center piece on the deck lid, the holes didn't line up quite right and I had to enlarge them a bit in order to get it to fit. I wasn't very happy having to enlarge the holes on my freshly painted deck lid. I followed the instructions to the letter using the templates and making all the holes the size indicated. The 2 side pieces went on without any problems. I guess nothing ever goes quite as easily as you would expect, but I was able to get it mounted and I am very happy with how it looks.

    Wow! Looks great!

This is a GREAT looking product for your Mustang if you are looking for something else beside the standard rear spoiler/ wing that is on most. The lightweight plastic design of this product is durable. The instructions provided are clear and easy to follow. The cut-outs used to locate the holes for drilling are accurate. There are (2) holes to be drilled on the (2) spoiler end pieces and (6) holes for the spoiler center piece. You will pilot drill all holes with a 1/8" bit and then drill all with 5/16" bit. You will need a 1/2" bit for (4) holes at (2) the ends of the spoiler center section. These holes are drilled from the inside of the trunk lid and capped with the provided parts. The center section of the spoiler covers the 3rd (cyclops) brake light. You'll have to disconnect that light. (Hint: just pull the light bulb out of the socket which was easy to do. You can gently pop-off the access cover with a flat tip screwdriver to gain access.) I had to remove the plastic cover inside the trunk on the latch side. This was easy. There is a nylon fastener at each side of the left and rear interior trunk fabric panels that must be removed so you can fold back these fabric panels. You can use a forked tool or a good set of pliers to remove them. They required a little elbow grease to remove. All in all because I was nervous about drilling into sheet metal and moved real slow as a result, it took me 2 hours. (Hint: make sure you use sharp drill bits. Don't lean too hard on the drill bit or you will go through the other side of the trunk lid.)

Great AM price but costly install

This piece makes your rear end unique for sure! Very sexy! But, although the AM price is great the install was costly. When you buy the CDC ducktail it does not cover the holes from the stock spoiler. You will have to fill those holes and get the trunk lid repainted. This is on top of also having to paint the spoiler itself. It ended up being a little more expensive than I anticipated. The install was painstakingly slow... on purpose. When you drill giant holes in your car you gotta make sure you get it right the first time. The only recommendation I have other than to go slow would be to buy some clear silicone to seal the holes, nuts, and bolts. The packaged rustproofing grease will eventually wash away. Great product! Thanks AM!

    Fits perfect.

Great product. Great fit. Remember the spolier will need painting. If your vehicle already has a spolier, you will need to remove the old spoiler. Fill the mounting holes from the existing spoiler that you are removing and refinish the decklid. Or you can buy the delete kit. The delete kit looks ok but filling in the old spolier mounting holes and refinishing the decklid is the way to go. Easy install, once the old spolier is removed. Great old school look..... Love it.

    Tough looking spoiler

After I ordered I realized that this spoiler was actually more different then the Cervinis than I expected. Turns out I am very glad. It looks absolutely awesome. Sure, the other brand does also but this is one is very sleek, low profile and gives a totally different look. Similar to a spoiler delete from the side but just enough to give it that extremely cool look. The back though is where the look really makes a difference in the " tough " category. Long post but wanted to make sure everyone understands the opportunity to have a total different look

    Looks real nice but..........

I have over the years purchased this product and have come up against the same problem over and over. The low duckbill spoiler cracks on the right side because of the way it is molded. There is too much bow and does not follow trunk line properly. It also cracks along the leading edge near trunk lid surface where the mounting studs are located. I've purchased three of these to date only because I do like the look ...........

    The Right Choice

The cervini ducktail spoiler truly changes the appearance of my stang. Compared to most spoilers on the market, especially stock flattops, it makes my mustang look much more aggressive the way it comes up over the trunk. The kit was very self explanatory and install was okay. Alot of large holes to drill out but worth it in the end. High recommendation for a great look!

    Product is okay.

The product was shipped and received within a week. I got the part painted and put on for 160, just bc I knew the guy and worked out a deal, he probably would have originally charged around 300. He said it was a pain in the butt to put on, and he said that the coating that is put on to keep it unpainted is very hard to come off, and be sanded off.. It toook him a good 3 hours to put it on bc it's so hard to line up... Over all, it looks great on my car with all the stuff I did to it, gives it a classic look, and makes my car look more rare to people.
