- How to Install a Screamin Demon Coil on your 1994-2000 Mustang V6
Hey guys. Today we're gonna be taking a look at uninstalling the Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil for 1994 to 2006 V6 Mustangs. This is a direct replacement performance upgrade coil pack and it's gonna be a good option for stock or slightly modified Mustangs. This is stronger than your factory coil pack is. It costs about $90, and it's very easy to install. I'll call it a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter and we'll go ahead and show you how to get this installed on your car now. All right guys, to start the install you'll pop your hood and your coil pack is located on the driver side right here. The first thing you're gonna want to do is disconnect all your spark plug wires. But before you do that, make a note or maybe even take a picture of exactly where your wires are because you're gonna want to make sure that you install them in the same order. So we'll go ahead and remove our spark plug wires now. All right, so you guys are just gonna go ahead, squeeze on the top of the spark plug wire and pull it off of the coil. All of them will disconnect that easily. All right, from here all you guys have to do is disconnect the electrical connection which is right here. This is your normal tab style, so I'm gonna reach under the bottom, there's a tab on the bottom. I'll pull the bottom of the tab down and then just disconnect the plug. The last thing we have to do to remove this is there are four bolts holding this in place on the manifold, so we'll go ahead and remove those. All right, so we do need to remove this in order to gain access to all four of our bolts. We're just going to pull that off and out of the way and these are 7 millimeter bolts, we're going to go ahead and remove those.All right guys. So on the last bolt of our coil pack, you'll notice that you have this extra electrical connection that actually goes into the main electrical connection for your coil pack. Your bolt runs through it, just keep that in mind when you go to reinstall your coil pack that this needs to go in that bottom right-hand bolt. All right guys. So the Performance Distributor coil pack is the same six tower style coil pack as your factory coil pack and it actually installs the exact same way. This produces a max of 45,000 volts which is more than your factory coil pack can produce, you get more energy here and that's how you get the hotter, cleaner [inaudible 00:02:18]. These have brass terminals and it's epoxy-filled so you have a better heat transfer and also some vibration resistance in there as well. So we'll go ahead and get this lined up and get our bolts in place. All right, so we will get this lined up and needs to be positioned the exact same way that our factory coil came out. So we have our electrical connection down here. We're going to take one of our bolts, thread it into the manifold, then I'm gonna grab the one bolt that actually looks like a stud because this one needs to go in the upper right-hand corner so we can get our plastic piece reinstalled. We'll line this one up, start threading that one as well. We can't forget about this guy that we have down here, so we'll go ahead and get this bottom right corner, and then we'll start our last bolt in this corner down here. So now we can go ahead and tighten all of these down, they don't need to be too tight. At this point we can also plug in our electrical connections, we'll go ahead, get that plugged in, you wanna hear it snap into place. All right guys, all that's left to do at this point is get your spark plug wires back into the coil pack. Once again, you do wanna make sure they go back on in the correct order. You're also gonna wanna make sure that they're fully seated, so you're gonna feel and see them click into place. The last thing you have to do is get your little keeper back in place for your throttle cable. So we'll go ahead, slide that over the end of our stud here and that's all it'll take. All right guys that's gonna wrap up this review and install, keep in mind you can always check this out more online. It’s was just so beautiful to pull out of the box. The performance screamin demon coil paired with new platinum spark plugs gave my car that much needed acceleration that has made my car fun to drive. This is the easiest part I have every installed. After installation my assumption was correct. It is obvious that when parts get old, they tend to fade, especially those that are of an electrical type. Performance went from blah, to Yea! I'm not a lead foot, but the acquired pick up in performance is definitely clear.Helpful (0)

Works great but not a huge gain
I ended up purchasing a CAI for my 95 mustang 3.8 due to the airbox cracking. It’s actually cheaper to go after market than to stay with the one part with these cars due to the age. I figured with the money I saved with going CAI why not throw some new plugs and a stronger coil pack to help complement my CAI. Had to re-gap plugs to 0.65 which wasn’t horrible even though I just installed them last week. I noticed small throttle response and minimal torque gain. Mind you this is a must Bolt-on if you plan on going any further with modifying your car regardless. By using this extra modification I will be a step ahead if I do decide to build this car. I know it’s a V6 but I’ve built two Mustangs already 5.0 and 4.6 so now I’m just curious to see what I can pull out of these little guys. Anyways Package arrived quickly and was packaged neatly with no scratches or defects. I can’t complain per usual American Muscle always does a great job.Helpful (0)

Easy install no noticeable change in hp and or idle smoothness like some reviews claimed. Decided to put new plugs in and gap them to 65 as suggested wires had 25k on them so I keep them on....all in all I’m not disappointed and I’m not too impressedHelpful (1)

Screaming demon coil

Spark Gap? Do the spark plugs need to be gapped more since its running a higher voltage?
When you buy it it comes with a paper that says the recommended gap for the spark i would just to be safe
How much will this effect my emissions?
This will be a direct replacement and should not effect emissions. However, it can depend on the state. We recommend checking with a local shop or state ordinances.
would this add any extra hp and if so how much
Although the Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil isn't manufactures specifically to improve horsepower, the coil will allow the vehicle to free up a few horsepower and few pounds of torque.
How different is the installation on 94 - 98 V6 Mustangs, with the coil pack in a different location?
They will be very similar locations, however it comes down to the connection pieces just having different geometry in terms of fitment differences.
Which spark plug wires would you recommend for this coil pack? I was looking at the "Performance Distributors Livewires 10mm Spark Plug Wires" and at "MSD Super Conductor 8.5mm Spark Plug Wires" but didnt know which one to choose.
The Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil will work with any aftermarket wires designed for your car, but for the perfect fit we do recommend the Performance Distributors Livewire spark plug wires.
Unfortunately the Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil is designed for 94-00 V6 models and will not fit the V8.
The Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil carries a 1 year warranty.
The Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil uses the same firing order as the stock distributor.
When using the Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil we recommend Taylor Street Thunder 8mm Spark Plug Wires with either NGK V-Power or NGK G-Power Performance Spark Plugs.
This coil pack will help with the spark output that the car currently has, reducing the likelihood of detonation.
This can only be gapped at the stock rate.
Factory wires and plugs will be fine with this coil. New factory wires and plugs will however, enhance the potential benefits of the coil.
The Performance Distributors Screamin Demon Coil (94-00 V6) will not require the use of a new tune.
It WON'T require a cai, wont hurt if you don't put one in, but I highly recommend it. The only reason why is that both are pretty straightforward parts, won't take much time and can be done with basic tools. You'll get a little gain from both, so installing both at the same time you'll more than likely feel a greater gain. That and you've got your tools out and your under the hood, why not right?
