    Ask a Question

What is the difference between these and the Ford SP-505 spark plugs? Are SP-493s or SP-505s recommended for GTs and which has a lesser probability of being shot out by the engine and causing heads to need replaced?

    • For the Ford Motorcraft OEM Spark Plugs, the SP-493 is an OEM plug from the 99-04 GT. the SP-505 is of the same design, but is 1 heat range lower. Neither would have any reduction in the spark plugs being shot from their hole, as this is caused by a failure in the head's soft aluminum threads, which are not as strong as the steel threads on the spark plugs. On many performance applications, steel inserts are installed in the head to replace the aluminum threads to prevent this, though this requires significant modifications to the heads.

should I get these ford motorcraft oem plugs or NGK G-Power Platinum Performance spark plugs

    • I would absolutely recommend Motorcraft and be sure to install them properly. Blowing out spark plugs due to improper installation or some aftermarket plugs is very common in these engines.

      good plugs

i bought these plugs to replace some autolites i had. the autolites had too few threads and some of them blew out of my heads. these motorcrafts have twice as many threads so i feel confident that they will not blow out. they come pre gapped too!

      Just like new!

The plugs are an *exact* match to what came out of my 04 GT. The install was a bit of a pain (especially if you're used to older cars with more open access to the plugs), but the product was exactly what you'd want to replace the originals with. Replaced after 110,000 miles and seems to run a little smoother again.

      OEM is better

After having other brands I found that the original Motorcraft Plugs are the best. Don't fool around and stay with the originals.

      Nothing fits better than stock!

These plugs are exactly what came in your pony from the factory so why not put back what came out! The fit is perfect but installation can be a bit tricky. Make sure to use a magnet to remove the plugs so that they don't fall back down into the engine and crack. Also, be sure to turn off the fuel pump and run the engine until it dies so that the fuel rails will be empty and depressurized when you remove them. These plugs are exactly what your Mustang is made to run on!

      Can't Go Wrong with Stock!!

30+ Years have always used Motorcraft Parts. They work great and Last the longest. I thought I had a Bad plug, but NO!! It was the Aftermarket Coils (GMS).Stick with your Stock Coils!! although more expensive, they are best.Had problems w/ 2 other brands. Will always use Motorcraft/Ford Ignition Prods...They last the longest and Perform the Best! The plugs Restored Power,Idle and Mileage and Work the way Ford designed. Well Tuned Cars are Happy and Fun!Originals lasted 65,000 miles, and Thats Good enough for me to Recommend to all of you!

      Great price

Sorry I have no picture to provide. My car has been hesitating when pushing the gas peddle so I changed the spark plugs along with purchasing new coils as well. After installation my car is no longer hesitating. I wasn't trying to brake the bank so I purchased these bad boys.

      Motorcraft or nothing...

I did a lot of research for the best plugs for my 2000 GT -- these are the ones that everyone said were best for the money -- you can spend more and get less, so don't do it.

      exact replacement

Ordered these, fast shipment, exact replacement for my '03 Mustang GT originals. The old plugs were 8 y/o and 80k miles. Installed these, felt like 10hp was added, great. Don't forget to use nickel (not copper) anti-seize on the threads for the next change.

Perfect Replacement for Stock/Mildly Modified Mustangs

Unless you have mods that require a different spark setting, these are the perfect plugs. They mate well with new OEM coils and my car runs smoother thanks to the tune-up. Don't waste any time or money with any spark plug gimmicks when these are perfectly fine and reliable.
