    Review & Install Video

This is the Ford racing cold air intake kit for the 2005-2009 Mustang V6. Hi, I’m Mike Wilson with AmericanMuscle.com, we’re going to show you what kind of horse power and torque numbers to expect when you combine this with a Bama performance 93 octane race tune. But first, we’re going to make a stock dyno run so we have some baseline horse power and torque numbers to start with. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power, and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The Ford racing cold air intake kit replaces your factory restrictive air box, with a higher flow air filter and mass air housing, which will increase horse power, torque, acceleration, and give you a throaty engine sound. And with the Ford racing logo proudly displayed, it’ll increase the under hood appearance of your Mustang. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize performance, through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. Now let’s make another dyno run, and see what kind of horse power and torque numbers we get. With the Ford racing cold air intake and a Bama performance tune, our car put down 190 horse power and 221 ft/lbs of torque, we’re seeing gains of as much as 25 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So we installed the Ford racing cold air intake and a Bama performance tune using simple hand tools all in under an hour’s time, and picked up as much as 25 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque.

More Power. Replace your restrictive factory intake with a Ford Racing V6 Cold Air Intake for better flowing incoming air that results in more power and improved throttle response.

OEM Quality and Fit. Utilizing OEM quality components the Ford Racing Cold Air Intake Kit mounts in the factory location and features a high flow molded plastic bucket with a unique air tube that provides an enhanced intake sound.

Required Upgrade. Installation of this Cold Air Intake will require the use of a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for operation.

Application. This Ford Racing Cold Air Intake is designed to fit the 2005 to 2009 4.0L V6 Mustangs and includes a 85mm mass air meter housing (reuse of mass air meter sensor required).

Do I need to buy a custom tune or the Bama X4 comes preloaded with something I can use?

    • Upon purchasing the Bama X4 tuner, you will be sent a tune request form that you'll fill out based on your performance mods. Bama takes that and pre-loads 2 custom tunes onto the tuner before shipping out.

Would this fit a 70mm throttle boddy?

    • This Ford Performance Cold Air Intake will physically mount on 70mm throttle bodies however, the coupler on the intake will be very snug and may require some additional force to mount correctly.

Do you have to have a custom tune for this cold air intake, or can you run it stock with no tune?

    • This Ford Performance Cold Air Intake will require a custom tune for proper operation. We would highly recommend the Bama X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner, item 101200G056, if you do not currently have a Bama tuner. https://www.americanmuscle.com/x4-custom-tuner-0510v6.html

Will this Ford Racing cai work with a 70mm throttle body?

    • This Ford Performance Cold Air Intake will certainly work with a 70mm throttle body. The coupler end attaching to the throttle body may be a very snug fit, so it may require to be warmed up to expand, but it will fit for sure!

Check engine light came on so I had to remove it . Probably will have to get it professionally installed instead of me bolting it on myself.

Cold air intake is the best thing for performance in your car along with the bama tuner it's just amazing performance not including that deep sound and take off.

      Mustang Heaven

Got this to replace the stock OEM airbox. Fit was spot on and the finish is excellent. Judging from looking at and interpreting the STFT\LTFT numbers and MAF numbers of before\after CAI install thru my scan tool it appears that this CAI is giving me an airflow increase of approx. 12-14. Note: I bought this CAI to install on a GT w\ 4.6L V8 as the airbox\filter and 85mm MAF section (M-9603) is exactly the SAME PART as the discontinued M-9603-M463 FR CAI and the '08-'09 OEM "Bullit" CAI (verified all thru Ford Performance), only difference is the hose section (the actual part that FP discontinued production for the 4.6L 3V). The stock 4.6L hose section is too small to fit the MAF section of this FP CAI so I bought an OEM '08-'09 Bullit hose section w\ resonators from my local Ford dealership to finish it off and install on my '09 Mustang GT w\ 4.6L V8. If you do choose to follow this route be aware that there aren't many of the '08-'09 OEM Bullit assemblies left in Ford dealership parts network...……. You will need a tune to resize the MAF ID in the PCM MAF mapping (stock MAF ID is 81mm, FP CAI MAF ID is 85mm) so the PCM can accurately measure the airflow. This is not an issue if you have a Bama X4 tuner w\ lifetime tunes (as I do).

      Amazing and Easy!!!

First purchased without a Bama tuner and installed on my '05 V6 Mustang. It made the car idle and run badly, once I purchased a Bama tuner it put all the pieces together and you can now feel the power this CAI makes.

      Great Value

I purchased from AM because it was 60 dollars cheaper than other sites. Easy to install, looks good under the hood. I also purchased with Bama tuner. Noticeable increase in torque and horsepower. Great way to get 25 horsepower and 35 tongue, for 620 bucks.

      Ford Perf. CAI

Looks good and came as discribed. I already had a tuner, but decided to get this in hopes of a little more gain. I am getting 4-5 more mpg's and it pulls harder in 3rd and 4th gear. I have A/C, so the front bolt doesn't quite fit. I had to do a little modifying to bolt the front down.

      Check engine

easy installation; But when I start the car starts to convulse and it goes out. After a few minutes and accelerate, stabilizes; But it turns on check engine and in moments it is held when accelerated in different situations. I had to reinstall the previous one; But I stay on the check engine. I ask for help

      Great deal

I'm a noob when it comes to car stuff but that didn't matter with this. Mind you no instructions provided in the package but on the site there's a good PDF. If you're a like me you read reviews and forums and the item description 100 times before you purchase. So after reading that to really make a difference, a CAI should require a tune. I had a pype bomb in place of the stock muffler (Single exit at time of CAI install) and the before and after at just idle was different. Smoother IMO. I already had a bama tune before this so my car was already at full potential fully stock. So I can say that it might have pulled a bit harder on the higher end when I would hit the highway. Everything else people say you get performance wise is perspective IMO.

      Great look.

I already had true dual exhaust on the car so after installing this and tuning it I could not hear much of a difference. But at higher speeds it pulls harder and faster than before so thats really nice. On top of that my car has abs so the ugly control modual is now covered now and I really like that part of it. Due to the abs control modual being in the way for one of the mount points it took a little longer for me. It probably doubled the time as it took 45mins. Very easy install.

Noticable gain WITH Bama X4 tuner!

Intake is great deep whistle when pushing it tuner is a must have. Install was easy. If you get a check engine light and don't have a way to read the code its most like P0174 "system too lean (bank 2)" meaning O2 sensor is picking up too much air
