The Ford Performance Crate Engine control pack that we have here will be a necessary component when performing a Coyote swap using a Gen 1 5-liter engine found in the '11 to '14 Mustang GT along with a manual transmission of your choice. Now, using the Ford Performance kit here will take most of the guesswork out of the wiring for you, no matter what chassis you plan on dropping the engine into thanks to the included wiring harness and PCM loaded with the Ford Performance calibration. You're also getting the drive by wire throttle pedal, radiator hoses, O2 sensors, air box, MAF sensor, and everything else needed to kinda get this puppy up and running, all for around 1500 bucks. Now, obviously, this will involve swapping the Coyote itself so we're gonna knock the install up to a full three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and a few hours from start to finish to handle the wiring portion of the job. So right off the bat, guys, a few major points to consider before pulling the trigger on the control pack that we're talking about here today in this video. First and foremost, this will only work on your Gen 1 Coyote swap and for those who don't know, basically, that means we're talking about the 5-liter engine found in the '11 to '14 Mustang GT. Now Ford Performance does state that you can use this on an '11 to '14 5-liter truck engine from an F-150 but at that point, the kit will require some technical modification and that will require you guys to give the good folks over at Ford Performance a call before installation.Another big thing to point out here, guys, is that this kit does not have provisions to be used with an automatic transmission so therefore, again, you will need to pair your Coyote up with a manual gearbox of your choice when using this control pack. Which trans exactly? Well, again, that will be up to you guys. Obviously, the MT82 would be the easiest choice because that's what these particular engines came with at the time but you could always go Tremec it if you want and have the necessary parts to make it all work on your setup, which includes the bell housing, clutch, drive shaft, and things like that. But getting back to the kit and all of its included components and, of course, you're gonna find the brains of the system here and that will be the factory Ford Copperhead PCM. Now the PCM will also toss in...or the Ford Performance kit will also include the necessary wiring harness here to control that Gen 1 Coyote. This harness will include an OBD2 port shown right here for emissions purposes but will also allow for a future custom tuning or calibration in addition to maybe an OBD2 monitoring device or code reading device as well. Now on the topic of tunes, guys, I should point out that this thing does come pre-loaded with a Ford Performance calibration to get you up and running with essentially a stock Coyote right out of the box but if you do plan on going forced induction, again, you can custom tune this setup to your liking. Now since the Gen 1 is a drive by wire setup, Ford does also toss in their throttle pedal here to be used with your setup and will eliminate the pain of running a throttle cable, making some brackets, things like that. Instead, you basically just need to run the necessary wire to plug into your throttle pedal there. Now you're also gonna see the factory air box on the table with the included mass air flow sensor already installed for you, required for this setup along with the corresponding intake tube. Finally, Ford Performance does toss in some nice little extras with this kit like a brand new set of primary O2 sensors, those are your wide bands, brand new upper and lower rad hoses, in addition to some PCV lines, power distribution block, and some other miscellaneous items as well. So basically, you supply the engine, the transmission, fuel, and spark, and you're ready to rip. Now speaking of fuel, one last very important thing to point out here, guys, is that prospective buyers will need to run what is called a return style system or fuel system with this setup. Now, as the name implies, you're basically just running a return line off one of the rails back to the tank. So not a huge deal but it's something you will need to account for when running this system. As for the installation, well, this one will obviously vary depending on what you're swapping things into. Now, something a little newer will no doubt be a bit easier but going into an old street rod or something like that probably will take a lot more work. Because this is such a broad spectrum, we're just gonna kick it up to a three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and a few hours from start to finish, not to complete the entire swap mind you, but just to handle the wiring portion of the job. So wrapping things up, guys, if you're looking to take some of the guesswork out of your future Gen 1 Coyote swap, then grabbing the Ford Performace control pack will certainly help you out along the way, and you can get yours right here at americanmuscle.com.
