Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m here to walk you through how to install the textured ABS plastic rear window louver, on your 79-93 hatchback Mustang. The louver itself is a great way to introduce a little of that old school muscle car styling to your Fox body. Unlike other aluminum options, this louver is made from a durable ABS plastic, so for one, it’s going to be a lot lighter than those other aluminum options, and that textured finish should give it a little more character as well. Another nice thing with this louver is that it does include two of these hinged mounting plates, that basically allow you to lift the louver up and clean the back window whenever it gets a little dirty. These mounting plates are to be used in conjunction with the non hinged mounting plates to ultimately secure the louver itself to the rear window. Alright, now that we know a little bit more about the louver, let’s get it installed. Alright as you can see we’ve got the louver laid into place for now, but this is actually the important first step, what you’re going to want to do, is mark all the holes on the rear window, just so you know where to clean using the alcohol prep pads, and then eventually with the 3M adhesion promoter. Alright, with all our holes marked, we’re going to pull the louver back off, and move onto our next step. Here we’re going to want to mount the mounting plates to the louver itself, we’re going to start with the two hinged mounting plates which go up top here. Keep in mind while doing this the louver does have to come back off the mounting plates so you don’t need to go crazy with tightening these nuts just yet. Now all our tie down plates are pretty much finger tight, at this point we’re going to go ahead and pull off the 3M backing, and that should be good for the louver. Alright with the louver fully prepped we’re going to move onto the next step which is cleaning the area really well wherever those mounting plates are going to go. I’m actually going to use one of our alcohol prep pads we had lying around the shop here, but if you don’t have anything like this at home, you can always use a rubbing alcohol or some other kind of cleaner. Alright with the rear window nice and clean, I’m going to grab our louver and gently set it into place.obviously this might be a little easier with two people but if you’re using just one person, go ahead and take your time, make sure to line it up the first time, and don’t put too much pressure on it, that way if you mess anything up, you can still move it around slightly. I’m putting a little pressure on the louver now but then I’m going to go ahead and remove these nuts, because what we’re going to do is we’re going to remove the louver itself, and put some really good pressure on those mounting plates with the louver removed, that way you can make sure the plates are on nice and tight. Now that the last nut is about to come off, I’m going to take the louver itself off, with the mounting plates still on the rear window, that way you can go round to all of the mounting plates, give them some nice firm pressure, and make sure they’re on there good. Now we’re going to reinstall the louver, with the louver back in place we’re going to reinstall the hardware now, and tighten everything up. With the two top plates installed it would be a great time to demonstrate the lift off feature, whenever you need to clean the back window, so simply just lift it up, do what you’ve got to do under there and you should be good to go, alright now let’s finish up the install with these last 2 nuts. That should do it, of course it would be a great idea to go back around and tighten everything up with a wrench, but overall you can expect to spend about an hour on this install from start to finish, that wraps up our install ad quick breakdown here of the textured ABS plastic rear window louver fitting all 79-93 hatchback Mustangs, and as always you can find it right here at AmericanMuscle.com
