      Review & Installation Video

      Review & Install Video

Hey, what's going on, guys? Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a detailed review of the unpainted version of the MMD V-Series hood scoop, fitting all 2015 and newer GT, V6, and EcoBoost Mustangs. So in this video, I'll be touching on the styling and design of the MMD V-Series hood scoop I have here today, as well as the materials and the installation, which I'll tell you up front, will require some drilling into your factory hood. Not a terribly bad job at all, but I do wanna point it out, which is why this one gets a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. So let's jump right into it. So the MMD V-Series hood scoop I have here today in the unpainted version will be for the 2015 or newer Mustang owner out there, whether it's a GT, V6, or EcoBoost model, who's looking to pick up one of the most desired aftermarket looks for the hood of their vehicle, while switching it up and getting one of the most muscular add-ons for the S550. This particular hood scoop is a part of the wildly popular V-Series lineup of exterior styling parts brought to us by MMD, or Modern Muscle Design, for the 2015 and up S550 Mustangs, whether it's a GT, V6, or EcoBoost, as I mentioned before. Now this one you may recognize from our absolutely insane 850-horsepower giveaway Mustang GT we're doing here at American Muscle, and as you can see, this one offers an extremely sleek muscle car appearance that almost looks it could come on the car from the factory. Now this option is definitely a bold styling for the 2015 S550 owners out there looking to completely switch up the front end look of their Mustang without breaking the bank on an entirely new hood. This way, you can make the small modifications required to properly attach this, all the while protecting your wallet. This is great for the guys out there with the 2015 and up Mustangs looking to take their car to the car shows, wanting to turn heads, and have the most aggressive front end on the lineup. Now the MMD V-Series hood scoop I have here today was manufactured using the original CAD data from Ford to ensure a perfect OEM fit for your Pony. This was also molded from an ABS plastic to ensure long-lasting lifetimes with extreme durability and a lightweight product. Now price-wise for the MMD V-Series hood scoop I have here today, expect to be spending about 350 bucks for the unpainted version, which honestly isn't too bad considering the alternative is picking up a brand-new hood. This one will get you a lotta bang for your buck with the unpainted version, but if you are interested in picking up the pre-painted version from us, already painted, ready to go out of the box on the vehicle, expect to be spending about $100 more than that, which, in my opinion, is the absolute most bang for your buck considering you will have to take it to a paint shop to get it painted, which is probably gonna be more than 100 bucks. Now switching gears over to the installation portion, like I said, again, this one will require some drilling, permanent modifications under your factory hood, but I will say it does include a drilling template to help you get the job done if you want to do it yourself. If you do want to do it yourself, you'd obviously have to have a drill and some drill bits on hand, but if you're not feeling too comfortable, it's definitely no shame to have this one handed up to the professionals to get the job done properly. Now with all of that said, if this is something you wanna tackle yourself, expect to be spending about two hours in the driveway at home. Definitely not an impossible installation, but because it does require a little bit of more work with drilling, I will be giving this one a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Now before I wrap things up, guys, I do wanna point out, if you're feeling a little skeptical about the installation for this, check out some of the customer testimonials left on the product page on americanmuscle.com, with customers chiming in on their five out of five star rating across the board. They talk a little bit on the installation. You can even check out some of the customer photos to see how it looks on their ride. You might see something that looks similar to yours, just to get an idea of how this would go. Just to wrap things up, guys, if you're the owner of a 2015 or newer Mustang, whether it's a GT, V6, or EcoBoost model, and you're looking for one of the most aggressive, sleek, track-styling hood scoops on the market, you might wanna check out the MMD V-Series hood scoop in the unpainted finish or the pre-painted finish, which is always available right here at americanmuscle.com.

I currently own a white 2016 with a black gloss roof (from Factory), I would like to order a V-series scoop with the same gloss black paint as the roof, but I do not know the paint code/name. Can MMD advise the colour I should order to match the roof. Best regards Butch:)

      • The paint code for gloss black is UA, and the name is simply "Black".

How much weight will this add to the hood? Will my CPC hood strut still be able to lift/hold the hood after install?

      • The MMD V-Series Hood Scoop will add approximately 12lbs to the OEM hood, and will still allow any hood struts for the OEM hood to function as designed.

To whom it may concern, Hope the Team at AM are all well. I was wondering if you can please tell me why AM have stopped exporting the MMD V-series hood scoops to Australia. Can you please tell me if there is an authorised supplier for MMD hood scoop in Australia. Cheers Butch:)

      • At this time, American muscle does not determine what can and cannot be exported, instead our international shipping partner, I-Parcel, determines if a product such as the MMD V-Series Hood Scoop can be shipped to a given country.

      • We would recommend contacting your dealership and acquire the color code for your particular roof color. Depending on the year of your Mustang, it could be Black, code UA or Shadow Black, code G1.

Great mod, gives car aggressive look

I ordered the hood scoops along with the side scoops pre-painted to match the Grabber Blue of my car. Paint match is pretty good, no complaints. Installation is a pain because the little pieces of thin cardboard they give you as template guides suck. They move around and in my case, a couple of edges broke. I ended up just doing my own thing and marking the holes in my own way. Top holes (smaller diameter) were no problem. Matching the top holes from the bottom up (with a larger diameter) was a pain. A lot of that could be because I'm pretty bad with power tools. But even so, with my lack of experience, I was able to get it installed all by myself in the space of less than two hours. Having a second hand would help, having patience would help, having a better template would definitely help. MMD should include a full size, plastic template that won't be moving around. If you can get past the challenge of opening the holes, the rest is easy and the finished look is pretty nice. It makes my little EcoBoost look more aggressive than it really is. Only giving it a 4/5 "Bang for your Buck" rating because it's still far too expensive for what it is at $450.

        Completely changes the look

My only complaint which seems to be the norm with this product is the template was incorrect. Make your own template or do a professional install. For the price (and it is overpriced), it seems as though they would have provided a better template. I've ordered quite a few mods from american muscle but I think you guys missed a great opportunity to provide a good, accurate template for an expensive product.

        Looks awesome

Looks great on my car and gave it the look I was going for. As for the install I had help. I reccomend using clay or putty to hold the screw on the back of the scoop then use a paint pen to blot paint on the other end of the screw, then place it on the car. Worked perfectly. Also make sure the hood is clean before you try sticking it down or won't bond right.

        Perfect fit and looks Awesome!

My car is Ruby Red and I was really worried that the color would not match. As soon as I received it in, I took it out of the box and did a dry fit and my fears of it not matching was completely gone! It was a perfect match! Looks like it was painted while on the car! After reading all the reviews about the install template not being totally accurate, I decided to have it professionally installed and it only cost me $60! I am really pleased with the color, the exact fit and the overall quality of the scoop itself! It gives my car a lot more aggressive look without being way over the top! HIGHLY recommend this product!

        Good fit, but poorly painted.

I purchased the pre-painted version of this scoop and expected the same quality as the pre-painted MMD Foose spoiler I previously purchased. I was a little let down by the quality of the paint job. It has a run in the side of it and underside was not painted so it showed when installed. Also, both back corners had all the paint removed from shipping where it must have rubbed. A little touch up painted covered up these areas, but the run is not going away. The fit of this scoop is perfect though. Installation was easy and took a little over an hour.

        Great Looking Scoop!

The scoop looks fantastic. It gives a nice muscular appearance without being over the top. The template installation system leaves a lot to be desired. Despite taking my time and double checking the template location and fitment before drilling the holes, my holes ended up being a little more than an 1/8" off, which was just enough to prevent installing the bolts without dremeling out the holes. MMD definitely needs to come up with a better system. My Roush side scoops came with large paper templates to allow for perfect fitment, and given the cost of the hood scoop, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt MMD's bottom line to spend an extra $0.50 on a real paper template.

        Perfect fit!!!!!!

A little pricey ,a perfect fit but I was skeptical about the color match from the customer reviews? Color matches absolutely perfect. The only downside to installing this was the crazy paper strips they give you to mark where to drill your hood?I threw those away and made my own. First I placed the hood scoop on the car exactly where I needed it I put masking tape across the hood scoop down onto the hood of the car then I cut that tape with a razor blade and remove the scoop and installed the 5 screws. Then I took a piece of white construction paper approximately the size of the bottom of the scoop taping it down to the hood. Then I took a drop of red paint and placed on each screw on the bottom of the hood scoop placed it carefully on the hood aligning it with the masking tape that I cut earlier and set it down on the hood then removed it and where the screws touched the construction paper left a mark where the holes should be drilled(9/32 TOP of hood and 9/16 Underneath the hood)and it aligned perfectly. Looks awesome well worth the money couldn't be happier

        Looks great!

Perfect color match and great packaging. The scoop looks great and gives a little more of an aggressive look to the ‘stand. Install wasn’t difficult, just time consuming. You’ll want to take your time. As the old saying goes, “measure twice, cut once”. The template is not relable. I recommend using something (like putty) to place on the hood and then press the bolt heads into it to mark where to drill. I initially did that but then got nervous and used the template... should’ve went with my markings as they were accurate and the template was not. I had to ream the holes to get the scoop to align after drilling them using the template. I also recommend using a small piece of masking tape to tape the bolts to the end of the screwdriver while trying to screw them in so they don’t fall into the hood. You will need an extra set of hands to hold the scoop in place while you screw in the bolts from the underside.
