Will this hood scoop fit onto a 2013 Mustang V6? I'm buying a 2013 Black Mustang V6 & thought this scoop would look great on it, but it didnt list 2013 as a model it would fit. Would love to get it if I new that it WOULD work on it.

  • The 2013s are going to have a different hood scoop than this one made for the 2010-2012 as the hoods did change slightly. Keep an eye out!

Can this fit with the hood on the 05-09's? I keep thinking this would look awesome on my 06' and wondering if anyone has ever tried it on a hood from an 05-06 to see if it would work? My thoughts are that I don't see why it wouldn't work and that it would actually be pretty sweet. Please let me know. I have a feeling you have a few 05-09's sitting around AM that you could set this on to check... Thanks! Jay-

  • No, the 10-12 year stock hoods are curved slightly differently from the stock 05-09 hoods.

Is this the same as the prepainted scoop? The shape of this item looks slightly different than the prepainted one. Are they the same, and will either one fit the 2013 GT premium yet? Thanks. This one looks more like the aftermarket shaped Roush scoop that is coming in November, which is what comes up on the Build your Battle Car site at the Ford website.

MuscleCarWoman

  • Yes, this is the same hood scoop as the painted version. Unfortunately, neither will fit the 2013 as they had a different hood than the 10-12 models.

can this be installed with 3m tape instead of drilling holes in the hood?

BrianM

  • Due to the opening at the front of the SpeedForm Hood Scoop, a great amount of stress would be put on the hood from the air as you move. 3M tape alone would have insufficient strength to hold this on without the added clamping force of the bolts.

Hi, what is the quality between speedform Hood scoop versus the OEM ford Hood scoop?

JeanpierreB

  • The SpeedForm Hood Scoop will be designed to be very similar in quality and materials to the OEM hood scoop. This will have design cues that will differ from the OEM equivalent hood scoop

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    Looks Good BUT

Just my advice: SKIP IT ALL TOGETHER. Yes it looks cool but here what happened. 1. Ordered one two weeks ago and it came damage. AM sent replacement no problem. A++ 2. Got the replacement one this afternoon and began the install. 3. Worst installation instructions ever! It came with two set of instructions. One was a black and white copy and one was an AM color instructions. Both were missing steps, hard to follow, and simply written very poorly. 4. The templates are two 1/2 inch strips that you have to stick on to the hood and hope they align to the hood scoop. I would RECOMMEND to AM that they create a full template that lays down on the entire hood to align everything properly. Also the templates were really cheaply done! Furthermore, the templates are not 100% accurate as I measured and used a level to see - and they were off. Even as I got it all squared off. I had to drill multiple holes to get it to line up. 5. After 2.5 hours of cussing, sweating, drilling, and taping off the hood to get a proper alignment, I finally got it on. No Thanks to the included instructions or template. 6. Lastly beware: The metal shavings created as a result of drilling will scratch your paint on the surface. I was VERY careful on using a dustbuster to pick up the shavings and dusting it off, but I could not get every grain and when I went to clean up....tiny surface swirl scratches My recommendation to AM is create an entire hood template that covers the entire hood not these cheap 1/2 inch strips that barely stick on to the hood. That way it not only protects the hood but makes lining up the drill holes to the screw holds much easier. Until AM does this, I say skip this product. I tore up my hood a little bit but luckily most of it is now covered by the hood scoop. The only positive is that it looks great on it.....not sure its worth the $399 + Trouble + hood damage.

great fit, paint job needs work

this is the second scoop i ordered from A.M. the first had chipped paint, possibly from shipping and A.M. sent me out a new one asap, great service. the second scoop was installed today and it was a great fit, even and flat on all four sides. but once attached and out in the sunlight the paint just wasnt as good as the factory paint job. its just wasnt smooth and shiny as the car. the shop that did the install said it could be taken care of with some wet sanding and buffing. so more work is needed. great fit scoop not worth the money for the paint.

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    Almost Perfect

I love almost everything about the scoop I purchased from American Muscle. It is a great addition to my 5.0. The paint matches the factory UA Black perfectly. Cost was great in comparison with the Ford OEM part. I had the scoop installed two weeks ago, and in that time, I've found one reason to make complaint: the adhesive has begun coming loose of the hood most of the way around the scoop. It probably wouldn't be so noticeable if my car weren't black. Since it IS black, it's an eyesore for white adhesive to be seen everywhere the scoop meets the hood. To be fair, there are several factors that could be causing this: 1.) It's been above 100 degrees here for weeks, 2.) bad adhesive, 3.) bad shop installation. I'm not sure where to go to get this situation rectified, as I love everything about the scoop except the problem I'm having with the adhesive. I'd really like to give it a perfect review.

    Nice product

this was my second hood scoop, my first one did not require bolts and flew off. This was a good product and the paint was ok. When you install this the tempeltes are not the best so I had to make a custom one so I could drill the hole. Just make sure you measure everything and do not wipe the metal shavings into your paint. Wife sez it's too ...."Menacing and aggressive" ! [ Black 2010 GT- Auto]

I like functional items. I was going to modify the back end of this scoop, open it up, and use it as a heat extractor. That way, the heat extractor's cut into the old hood would be covered up by this new scoop. Not enough vertical height to pull that idea off. It was suggested to me by my favourite paint shop not to buy a pre-painted scoop, since there well may be 12 x shades of the same black..esp with a 2+ year old car that sits outside all year long. They colour matched it dead on. I had it installed by a local custom shop a week later. The fellow there had done a lot of custom work, including a lot of mustang hood scoops. I told him about the reviews and the lousy supplied template. He agreed, and used a FULL SIZED template he made, just for this install. I also told him to use loctite on the 4 x supplied 10-32 machine screws and 4 x flat washer's. The scoop comes with double sided tape, that lines all 4 x sides, already installed. I wouldn't trust tape alone to hold a scoop on. Without loctite, no doubt the screws would eventually loosen up. The last thing I need, is a scoop coming off at 100+ mph ! The install took almost 2 hrs. The seam down the middle of the scoop lines up dead on with both the seam on the the hood itself..and also the seam on my new CDC front lower chin spoiler. If done right, there should be a small lip running down each side of the scoop. The hood liner has to be removed, and also re-installed, so you can get the screws installed. The windshield washer's are recessed into the back end of the stock hood.... and fed via a small diam black tube in the upper left hand corner. Be careful, as the back 2 x new screw holes [closest to the windshield] are close to the windshield washer nozzles. OK, it's still a fake, non functional hood scoop, but man does it look wicked, the best of the fake hood scoops. Mine came with a black [not silver as depicted in AM's pix] 'grate'..that had double sided tape on the back side of it. The grate is supposed to get installed onto the front end of the scoop. Since the car is black already, and the grate is recessed quite away's back from the leading edge, it was agreed by myself and the custom shop, to leave the supplied grate.. OFF. The paint shop had done a superb paint job on the scoop, and with the grate left OFF, it actually looks way better. You would swear there was an actual opening. Being recessed so far back, and with a slight downward slope, the recess is always in a shadow anyway, which makes it darker still. The black plastic 'grate', if installed, would in my case make it really look fake. The scoop is just the right height too. I had looked at cowl hoods and decided I didn't want anything too high.... since I DON'T want my forward vision / line of site, restricted in any way. This scoop is just under 1" high at the back end, doesn't restrict your vision at all, and folks really take notice...esp when used in conjunction with the CDC front lower lip spoiler. At the very most, some will want to raise the driver's seat by .25" - .5" . It may be fake, BUT the blower under the hood plus grille fed CAI sure as heck isn't. I also added Roush side air splitter's and a 2012 shelby rear spoiler [comes with a gurney flap] + 2012 shelby rear lower diffuser + Ford racing FRS-500 mufflers. Also chrome [staggered] deep dish bullitt wheels + 255/275 nitto NT-555 rubber. Mash the gas pedal, instant boost, and folks will no longer be guessing. They will convince themselves your hood scoop is the real deal..if they can still see it through all the smoke. Non functional hood scoops have been around since the 60's. This one is big. It's the physiological effect on the guy beside you at the red light that counts....and it works.

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    Great look!

Great agressive look. The AM site says that advanced mechanical skills are required but actually all you need to know how is how to drill a hole in the hood. This is a little scary but nothing else. I plan to add side scoops as combination would look even better. I received 2 different installation instructions with the scoop and it was kind of confusing. The color one was not completed. There was nothing about the drilling and some steps were repeated. I think it was a misprint. My Stang was kept outside for 2 years and when I installed the scoop I noticed a color difference. The hood scoop was a little darker. I am not sure if it is because of the age or because the paint difference. Other than that, the quality is exceptional. It looks awasome.

take it from a body man

the product itself is great... the template is horrable.... take the mounting screws an put them thew the cardboard box it came in ... now trace the scoop an then cut the cardboard outline to make a perfect template... as you get the scoup in the correct position take a marker to find the ideal poss for the holes.... never leave raw metal from the holes so taper the top of the hood holes an from the bottom give the holes a good shot of primer to prevent rust.. take your time to measure correctly an should take about 1.5 hours.... I must say I did order the scoop an it had a chip from shipping an returned it an American muscle had another one in my shop in 3 days.. great customer service

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    Pay a pro

After a long debate with myself, I ordered this scoop for my 2011 Mustang GT. It arrived quickly from American Muscle (everything I order from them does) and I had the hood installed by my favorite body shop. They only charged me 1.5 hours labor plus tax to do so (total was around $140). The hood looks great but there is a slight rise on the left rear corner of the hood(left when facing the car). I got some double-sided 3M tape and applied it to the small gap (about 3/16 of an inch) and then put pressure on the scoop w/ two small Quick Grips. So far things seem to be holding. The wife says the car with the scoop looks "snottier". This is a good thing. The color match was great. Other than the small gap, I would rate the scoop "Good +".

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    Awsome promised look, horrible experience

This review is not different than the bad reviews this product has already received on this website. It all started with the shipping of the first scoop. It was damaged on 2 corners and had a crack on the sides. I immediately called customer support and they immediately shipped a hood out and received it early next week. The quality of the pain job on the second scoop was less than stellar. The installation instructions are horrible. Like people have said, the size of the whole was too small and the template that was provided is a joke. After some frustrating times installing this scoop, it was finally on. It has a great aggressive look to it. The next day, I noticed that the corners of the scoop were coming off the hood. I installed the hood exactly like instructed and the 3m tape was not strong enough. I ended up taking my car to a paint and body shop to fix. Per the reputable body shop, the scoop was not true and that is the reason why it keeps lifting on the sides/corners. I will be picking up the car with the solution they came up with to make the scoop and hood look as intended. Overall, this turned out to be expensive project due to the craftsmanship of the product that American Muscle sold to me. I would not recommend this product unless you plan on spending more money/time to make it a solid install.

great looks but some fish eyes in paint

this looks great . got it in and put it on that night . forget the 3/16 holes the bolts will not go thruogh them . go ahead drill bigger holes and save your time. I loved it until I saw it the next day in the light and saw the fish eyes in the paint and the gaps in the rear corners due to uneven tape. I would have taken it off and sent it back but it was already stuck to the hood with holes drilled and i wasnt going to ride around in a new mustang with holes in the hood.. look at the hood scoop in sun and under lights to see how the paint really looks.

    Looks nice

i bought the hoodscoop on a wednesday the scoop gets her friday. okay perfect shipping time. i open the box all excited to have it finally and when i start looking at it i relize its cracked. one of the corners were completley busted open, i called am the following monday and they get a replacement one sent out the same day. 2 days later its here at my door. the new scoop was perfect and ready to be painted and installed. I take it the shop to have it installed, i get it back its perfect. the only thing thats bad about the scoop is the 3m doesnt set up good and the corners are off the hood about a fourth of an inch its not noticable until you are right on top of it. but overall i love the scoop, reallly makes the car look agressive.

What can I say. this is the sixth prepainted product and the second scoop I have bought from AM, and they once again have not let me down. Had it in 2 days, packaged like a tank, fit and finish is incredible, high quality part. Just lay lots of tape on the hood, drill small holes first, then enlarge them. fit and finish flawless

The installation template shows where to drill the holes in the hood but the template is made by putting the tape across the bottom of the scoop and marking the places to drill. The only thing wrong is that the hood is not flat .When you drill the holes you wind up not far enough apart and the screws won't line up. So what to do? Either make bigger holes or add 3/16" distance between the screw holes across the hood ,passenger to driver, not front to back as it is ok that way.Hope this helps someone. This would be an hour job if it wasnt for this problem. If you drill bigger holes, use washers to keep the screws from pulling thru the hood. Otherwise this is a high quality piece.

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    Pre-painted hood scoop

There were a number of issues with the installation instructions, first and foremost the required drill bit size is incorrect. AM & manufacturers instructions state 3/16th drill bit. This way too small you cannot even get the bolts through that hole. I had to use an 11/32 drill bit just to get the bolts through and a 3/8ths for corrections. Another problem the locater strips the holes were not centered so this left the the side flaps that are needed to tape over the scoop then onto the hood when you remove the scoop for drilling too short. Due to the shortened lengths it made creating drill points difficult. This ultimately led to mis-alignment issues when time came to bolt up the scoop. Due to the materials used also with the locater strips and packaging you will need to pull them tight to keep the location when placed on the hood, its hard to do when they are all bent up by rolling them to put them in the bag. My scoop came without the honeycomb strip or alcohol prep pads. Some items you should think about when you are using these strips. * One its a good idea to thread the bolts into the scoop through the strips pull them taut (carefully) and tape them to the scoop, and forget about using the tape on them to the hole as when you pull the scoop off them there is too much slack in the strip due to it not being perfectly strait and taut. You will be off a couple of milometers due to this. * If you happen to be off by only a small bit can almost thread but not strait, do not try to lengthen the hole just drill a size larger than needed it will give you some wiggle room for adjustment of both the scoop and the bolt if needed. * Follow the AM instructions generally but follow the scoop placement instructions from the black and white instructions in the plastic bag specifically as they they have you only peel the corners from the double sided tape then place the scoop and thread the bolts then before tightening you pull the backing completely off when its nearly in place. the benefi to doing this is its far easier to position and shift the scoop around this way then via the AM instructions that have you fully remove the backing first. After the install is completed after many adjustments via the AM way and corrections I got it comepleted. It looks great, it also looks factory which is the look I wanted. 5 stars for the product design, and its finish was very good, 1 star for the missing items, and poorly accurate and poorly written instructions by both AM and the maker.

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    great scoop, bad packaging

First the good. The scoop is the same as the factory scoop. The color matched great and it looks awsome. Its held on securely by double sided tape and 4 screws, which brings me to the bad. Its supposed to have 4 screws, 4 foam insulater pads for the screws and 2 large template strips just like in the video. Mine had 2 screws, 2 pads and the 2 strips were the short template strips that are used when mounting the pedestal spoiler, so they were useless. Who ever packaged this product should be fired! A 1 hour job took me 2.5 hrs cursing and fabricating new template strips and a trip to the hardware store to buy 2 metric screws. Again, the scoop itself is awsome. If you get all the hardware and correct templates it should only take an hour.

Review from SpeedForm Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    If looks could kill

very aggressive look, and paint was spot on. I did not have any issues with the templet, as others have stated. I noticed many people were complaining about the gap in scoop closes to windshield, so I decided to add two more bolts in the scoop closes to the problem areas. I figured your drilling into your hood anyways, so what's another two holes. It wouldn't be a bad idea, if this was factory. Anyways, I didn't just want the looks of the scoop, so I decided to make it somewhat functional as well, to let heat escape at idle, and cooler air in while in motion. This may not be for everyone, due to the fact of more hood drilling, but I like to think outside of the box. All and all I am satisfied with the product, and the outcome.
