Hey this is Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and today we’re going to be breaking down the Tokico HP Series shocks and struts, available for all 99-04 Mustangs. Tokico made its presence known in the aftermarket suspension world over 50 years ago and then solidified their name by basically inventing the modern twin tube shock absorber back in the 70s. The HP Series is a great entry level aftermarket shock and strut and continues to be a popular choice with many car owners, and is still a top rated customer item here on the site. These shocks are going to be perfect for someone who’s either planning on lowering their car soon, or has already done so, or just needs to replace a worn out of blown factory shock. When you put aftermarket lowering springs on your factory suspension, it will put a ton of added stress on those factory units, oftentimes leading to a bouncy ride, which can often lead to blown shocks or struts. Besides being able to handle the added stresses of a lowered car with ease, these aftermarket shocks and struts will also greatly improve your cars performance as well, they’re going to eliminate body roll in corners, they’re actually going to prevent dive in while breaking, and squat during acceleration, helping you eliminate that annoying wheel hop. Installing a new set of shocks and struts is probably something which sounds a little harder than it actually is, however if you have a good set of hand tools, basic floor jack, and jack stands, and some confidence, you should be able to tackle each corner in about 30 minutes. If you’re purchasing a set of aftermarket lowering springs along with these Tokicos, then I would strongly recommend getting your car realigned when you get the install all wrapped up. Depending on how low you go, you might want to invest in a set of Camber plates as well, just so you can properly dial in your alignment without chewing up your tires. While the HP series may not offer a dampening adjustment like some more costly options, there’s no doubt they are a great entry level aftermarket shock and strut, that can handle pretty much anything you throw at them, and will help your Mustang ride like new again.
