High Quality Fit and Finish. Designed to install easily by tapping into the existing factory wiring harness, this Trunk Release Kit only requires drilling one hole into the interior of the glove box for a clean factory style appearance. Kit includes factory switch button, and the needed wiring.

Application. This Trunk Release Kit is specifically designed for use on all 2005 to 2009 Ford Mustangs, including the V6, GT, Bullitt, and Shelby models.

        3 Top Rated Questions

Question regrading which wire to connect to? The instructions states connect one side to ground the other wire to white wire with pink stripe. Did not work. Also tried orange wire with pink stripe, that did nit work. Read somewhere might be white wire with violet strip? Before I strip back anymore wires, can you confirm which wire I should be using? 2007 Ford Mustang V6 CONVERTIBLE Appreciate the help

        • The Trunk Release Button Kit requires the long black wire to be connected to the pink and white wire, as per the installation guide.

I received this trunk release button and had it installed earlier today. The button, however, will not stay in the housing - it keeps separating and will not stay in place. Anyone else having this issue?

        • If the button itself keeps falling out, I would take it apart and make sure it is secured in the housing. If that does not help, you can get in contact with one of our Mustang Experts directly by following the link below. That way we can get the issue resolved right away! http://www.americanmuscle.com/contact.html

Is there an installation video for the Modern Billet Trunk Release Button Kit ? I am interested in this, but I would like to see what is involved in the install before purchasing. Thanks!

Why wasn't this included from the factory???

Pretty annoying that Ford didn't put a trunk release button in the S197 (05-09) the New Edge has one and so does the 2012 . Anyway this takes care of that issue. Install is pretty easy. Splice into the white wire with the pink stripe. Tape it up, route the wires and (ouch) drill a 3/4" hole in your upper glovebox frame. I used a 3/4" Nailbiter Short Auger NOTE: If you're going to drill into the left side like the guy did in the customer submitted photos using a step bit will not work. There is a piece of metal behind that. It literally took 1 second to drill into the top lip as the factory instructions state. There is no metal. Route your ground and you're all set. Make sure you test the switch before you drill :) Excelling product AM!!! I'm very happy with install and function!

DO NOT use a step up bit.

Trunk button is fine. Installation suggests a step up bit and warns not to drill beyond 3/4 or button wont fit. Problem is the metal bracket is too deep to get a 3/4 hole in the bracket without drilling bigger hole in the plastic. Put a washer behind the button to cover the gap. Long story short, buy a 3/4 inch bit and this will be easy.

            Trunk opener

Installed on the left side of the glove box opening. You will run into metal behind the plastic so be aware that you will have to drill threw that if you place it there. No big deal. Hook up very easy. Works goods.

            Trunk release button kit

Easy installation, figuring out where to put it took longer than putting it in. Should have been original equipment from Ford. No more looking for my key fob to open the trunk.

            Cheaply Made

While the price was great, the only thing of quality seemed to be in the wiring that came with it. The release button itself would not stay together and came apart each time I tried to use it. I ended up ordering one for a Crown Victoria (same button type) from a Ford dealer (about $30) and the quality was much higher. Now it works like it should!

            Should have bought this sooner!

I wish I had bought one sooner, I have an aftermarket key fob that wouldn’t allow me to pop the trunk while the key was in the ignition and car on. 6 years of having my car that’s always been a pain... I finally ordered one of these. Super easy to install. Should take no more than an hour.. only issue I had was my white wire with pink stripe had been turned yellow from the wire colors bleeding, so it took a little longer than I wanted searching for the right wire...All in all great buy!

            Finally a trunk release button!

Button works great and has a good finished look. I used a 3/4" Spade Bit for an easy and clean cut. My only complaint is that the ground wire provided was about 4" too short to reach from the install location shown in the directions, so I had to make my own ground wire.

            Great Idea!

5 Stars for the idea, 1 star for the inferior quality of the materials. I love this button, the availability of not having to pull my keys out to open the trunk is fantastic! Downside to the product is the actual button is kind of cheap. I decided to put it in my center console, after I used it a few times the center of the button shot out and will not stay in anymore. I ended up buying a different button to replace it with.

Works great with one or two issues

The button is a great addition to the mustang since Ford left it out. Installation was fairly simple except one thing. After cutting into 5 or 6 different wires, I finally found the right one. It is a very thin pink/purple stripe. And the white looked more yellow than white, which is why it took so long for me to find. Another issue is that the ground wire is too short and kept coming unplugged every time I closed the glove box. Fortunately, I was able to move it to a bolt up above the glove box that was 8 mm. With that adjustment, everything works great!

            Cheap Plastic - Good Idea

Don't get me wrong. I love this kit. Having a Trunk Button is VERY HELPFUL!!! I love that the guide is pretty clear about how to install it (although, I put mine in the plastic piece under the glove box because I don't like having to open the glove box). For the price, it's a really good deal. But... the internal plastic arms of the button itself are very cheap... and this could easily wear out due to use, or just the summer heat inside the vehicle... And that would let the button pop off. I would have rather paid $10 more for a better quality assembly.

            trunk release button

It was easy to install. It came with clear and straight forward directions. Definitely want to use a stepper drill bit to drill the hole for it. It makes it much easier to guage the switch to the hole drilled.

            Button was poorly made

When looking over the kit I thought it's simple but works. When I took it out the bag the button fell apart on me and will not stay together. Now that being said I did mount it and followed instructions. Everything worked. Even the button worked. It just won't stay one piece.
