High Quality Fit and Finish. Designed to install easily by tapping into the existing factory wiring harness, this Trunk Release Kit only requires drilling one hole into the interior of the glove box for a clean factory style appearance. Kit includes factory switch button, and the needed wiring.

I received this trunk release button and had it installed earlier today. The button, however, will not stay in the housing - it keeps separating and will not stay in place. Anyone else having this issue?

    • If the button itself keeps falling out, I would take it apart and make sure it is secured in the housing. If that does not help, you can get in contact with one of our Mustang Experts directly by following the link below. That way we can get the issue resolved right away!

Question regrading which wire to connect to? The instructions states connect one side to ground the other wire to white wire with pink stripe. Did not work. Also tried orange wire with pink stripe, that did nit work. Read somewhere might be white wire with violet strip? Before I strip back anymore wires, can you confirm which wire I should be using? 2007 Ford Mustang V6 CONVERTIBLE Appreciate the help

    • The Trunk Release Button Kit requires the long black wire to be connected to the pink and white wire, as per the installation guide.

I installed this part at the same time as the push to start button. Easy install, I decided to put it in the glove box between the seat - see photos. I just spliced a wire onto one lead and used a ground next to the emergency brake. Love it, works like a champ!!

      07 remote install

The 07 does not have easy mount access in the glove box. metal substructure behind most every area make mounting questionable as the structure is not flat anywhere. I mounted mine in the light switch panel and it was smooth going and looks great cause I got a black button, not yellow like it shows.there is a good ground bracket available very close. Check the switch before install as mine did not work but was easily fixed.

      Easy Install

I followed the instructions provided and had no issues installing the trunk release button. I did have to purchase the drill bit required for the install, over all no issues. Highly recommended purchase.

      About Time

This item worked as it should. However, mounting the ground wire where the instructions say, does not work. The wire is to short and there is no way to route the wire so you can close the clove box. (At least I could'nt find a way).I mounted the wire above the box. There are two 8 MM nuts directly above the box. Use either of them. The positive wire pulled out from the connector. I was lucky to have a spare in the garage. Give yourself more then 15 minutes to install.

I find it amazing that Ford did NOT...for whatever reason...include a trunk release on the Mustangs from 05 to 09 and yet, those of us who own one, have to purchase a kit to install such. Once installed, however, it is worth the time to have it. However, for the cost of the kit, not to mention the magnificant "Stangs" we own, it would be better if it were free!

      Great Product...Better Idea for Placement

This product worked great for me. I did make one change to the way it's recommended you install it. I placed my button on the left side of the center console right where the driver's right knee is (don't worry, your knee won't hit it if you place it low enough). I then used some bell wire instead of the provided wires to reach the wire harness on the passenger side to splice in. I was able to use the provided ground wire since there are plenty of places to ground under the dash. Worked great for me and I really like the placement of it...VERY HANDY.

      Button was poorly made

When looking over the kit I thought it's simple but works. When I took it out the bag the button fell apart on me and will not stay together. Now that being said I did mount it and followed instructions. Everything worked. Even the button worked. It just won't stay one piece.

Does what it's supposed to, easy install.

This trunk button is just what the doctor ordered. Super simple and straight forward installation. It's even easy to conceal, which is always fun.

      Ford's forgotten trunk release button...

I chose to install this button directly on the right side of the headlight/fog light switch plate, to the left of the steering wheel. There is a ground nut directly behind the switch, so that took 2 minutes. I ran a longer hot wire underneath and behind the radio and glovebox to the passenger side door sill, where the instructions show you exactly where the harness loom is. The needed wire is white with a very thin pink trace, not really "white and pink". It really took 25 or so minutes. I used a 3/4" step drill to make the hole on the switch plate and went slow. Perfect, factory looking placement. Didn't want it in center console and I didn't want it in glove box. Great product and I'm no longer worried about dropping keys in trunk.

      06 remote trunk install

I installed my remote in the center console storage area on the left. There is simply no room in the glove box as is shown in the instructions. The panel in the glove box shown in the instructions is barely 3/4" in a 2006 and you are instructed to drill a 3/4" hole. This just wouldn't work. I think the instructions are for an older mustang. I had to get extra wire to run to the console but it works just as well from there. It is closer to access than the glove box too. I was able to still install it in under an hour.

Why did I wait so long?

If you don't have one already I recommend. Install was straight forward. Having turn off your car every time you want to look in your trunk SUCKS. Very happy and didn't spend a lot of money.

      Trunk release button kit

Installed mine in the center console, so I had to add a wire to make it longer, no big deal. Has the factory look and if you didn't know, you would think it came that way!

      Nice accessory to have

This kit was fairly easy to install; however, I did not like the idea of putting it behind where the glovebox door closes over it. Instead, I added a much lengthier piece of wire and installed it inside the console's storage area. A lot more work, but now it is installed where the factory probably would have put it in the first place!

      Trunk release button

I really liked the added feature of the trunk release button on my V6 unfortunately the first time I bought this after maybe a month I didn't realize the button feel out form the assembly (I installed it in the glove box as example picture shows) I found the button damaged probably stepped on it so I bought it a second time i thought I just probably got a defective one that the legs on the button just didn't secure properly to the rest of the assembly, after 3 weeks of using the second one same thing the button fell out of the rest of the assembly; after buying several items from American Muscle this is the first disappointment this accessory is not functional, do not waste your money on this like I did.

      07 Mustang trunk release install

AM sent the release kit to our hotel in Detroit in time for the Woodward cruise. When we returned home and I tried to install the switch as per instructions it didn't work.AM suggested I contact a local Ford dealer for wiring schematic updates. The actual wire colour stripe was violet not pink and the tap in point in the wiring harness was behind the kick plate up near the firewall, not under the sill plate as per instructions. If your install is not working check with your dealer.Other than that it works great.I installed it in the glove compartment to the side, not enough to drill through as instructed at the top.

      trunk release without key fob

Great product but I can only give it 4 stars because of the installation issues I had. The guide should add an special note that the white wire with the pink stripe may not work on 07 and up mustangs. I would like to thank StangsCanada. There info was correct the first time I tried it. What work for my 07 was the white wire with a violet stripe behind the passenger kick panel. There's a large harness going thru the firewall at the foot. The ground was connect to a ground behind the glove box. Once again, great button.

      Trunk button

Once installed it works great. The problem is that it tends to come apart if you flex it too much pushing it in the hole you drilled.

You get what you pay for

I was really looking forward to installing this in my daily 06 GT for the convenience, but I made the rookie mistake of not disconnecting the battery first. This could have easily been avoided if something had been mentioned about this in the instructions, but instead I tripped the anti-theft system and paid $100 for a tow and had to leave the car overnight. It turned into a major $150 , 2-day hassle. Be sure you have a massive 3/4" drill bit too (I didn't and had to pay $20 at Lowes for one). Then 2 weeks later after finally getting it installed correctly, I pushed it and the whole unit popped out onto the floor mat, spring, metal clip, button, and all. I got it put back together, but it's cheaply made and I've had nothing but problems with it. Really not convenient at all if you ask me. Sorry, AM but this is not one of your finer products.

      Trunk release button kit

Great kit should have been OEM but wasn't. Quick install. Ground wire should have been longer but easy fix.
