      Description

Extra Convenience. For some odd reason Ford did not install interior remote trunk releases on the 2005 to 2009 S197 model Mustangs, but now you can add a Mustang Trunk Release Kit yourself for extra convenience.

High Quality Fit and Finish. Designed to install easily by tapping into the existing factory wiring harness, this Trunk Release Kit only requires drilling one hole into the interior of the glove box for a clean factory style appearance. Kit includes factory switch button, and the needed wiring.

Application. This Trunk Release Kit is specifically designed for use on all 2005 to 2009 Ford Mustangs, including the V6, GT, Bullitt, and Shelby models.

Easy to install trunk release button

You can push the sides of the open glove box inwards so it passed the stops and will drop down and give you more room. I drilled into the plastic upper lip of the opening, no metal backing. Ran the ground wire to the nearest bolt. ran the other wire down thru the kick panel. Pulled up the sill panel and attached the wire to the white wire with the pink stripe in the wire harness with the supplied crimp connector. That's it. The glove box door will not hit the button when closed and you don't see the button which I like so if I put valuables in the trunk and I have my convertible top down you don't see the button if you open the non locking glove box door. 06 Pony Package V6 convertible.

        5 2007 GT - Breezy30

        Does the job

Pretty straight forward with good instructions. I put mine in a spot that wasn’t being used left of the 12v plug. Follow the instructions and make sure to test it before final install. Works like a charm.

        The missing link.

This was the one thing missing from the good old fox body days! Easy install, had to be modified slightly for the location I chose, but works great!!!

Why wasn't this included from the factory???

Pretty annoying that Ford didn't put a trunk release button in the S197 (05-09) the New Edge has one and so does the 2012 . Anyway this takes care of that issue. Install is pretty easy. Splice into the white wire with the pink stripe. Tape it up, route the wires and (ouch) drill a 3/4" hole in your upper glovebox frame. I used a 3/4" Nailbiter Short Auger NOTE: If you're going to drill into the left side like the guy did in the customer submitted photos using a step bit will not work. There is a piece of metal behind that. It literally took 1 second to drill into the top lip as the factory instructions state. There is no metal. Route your ground and you're all set. Make sure you test the switch before you drill :) Excelling product AM!!! I'm very happy with install and function!

        3 2008 GT - JayT

DO NOT use a step up bit.

Trunk button is fine. Installation suggests a step up bit and warns not to drill beyond 3/4 or button wont fit. Problem is the metal bracket is too deep to get a 3/4 hole in the bracket without drilling bigger hole in the plastic. Put a washer behind the button to cover the gap. Long story short, buy a 3/4 inch bit and this will be easy.

        5 2007 V6 - RobertS

        Trunk opener

Installed on the left side of the glove box opening. You will run into metal behind the plastic so be aware that you will have to drill threw that if you place it there. No big deal. Hook up very easy. Works goods.

      3 Top Rated Questions

Question regrading which wire to connect to? The instructions states connect one side to ground the other wire to white wire with pink stripe. Did not work. Also tried orange wire with pink stripe, that did nit work. Read somewhere might be white wire with violet strip? Before I strip back anymore wires, can you confirm which wire I should be using? 2007 Ford Mustang V6 CONVERTIBLE Appreciate the help

      • The Trunk Release Button Kit requires the long black wire to be connected to the pink and white wire, as per the installation guide.

I received this trunk release button and had it installed earlier today. The button, however, will not stay in the housing - it keeps separating and will not stay in place. Anyone else having this issue?

      • If the button itself keeps falling out, I would take it apart and make sure it is secured in the housing. If that does not help, you can get in contact with one of our Mustang Experts directly by following the link below. That way we can get the issue resolved right away! http://www.americanmuscle.com/contact.html

Own a 2008 GT now that has no apparent trunk release button (at least that I can find). I have looked through this car thoroughly and can't find one. Have owned several Mustangs in the past (even another 08 which was a Warrior's in Pink car). The 90 GT we had, it was in the glove box area. The WIP car, I can't remember if there was one and if so where it was. I'd like to add this to the car as the only way I can open the trunk currently is with the key fob. When we bought the car, we didn't even get a trunk key so that's not an option. Maybe a new trunk lock with keys is also an option, is that something you might offer or do I need to look to Ford?

      • We do not offer new trunk locks with keys, that would have to be sourced through Ford directly.
