Justin: If you're looking for a quality set of coil-overs to improve the stance but more importantly the handling of your 2015 and newer Mustang but without spending thousands and thousands of dollars, well, then you should definitely consider the Pedders SportsRyder eXtreme XA coil-over shown here. Now, the Pedders will feature a 30-way damping adjustment with the monotube shocks and struts, upper camber plates in end links and will essentially allow owners to live anywhere from the stock ride height to being absolutely slammed, thanks to the height adjustability at right around 1,500 bucks. Installation is gonna get a soft three out of three wrenches according to the site and take at least four hours or so to complete from start to finish as we'll demonstrate later in the video. So, I'll be the first to admit, Pedders is one of those names that might not be as recognizable as others in the suspension category, but their history certainly speaks for itself. Case in point, they've actually been around since the 1950s primarily down in Australia providing killer suspension components for all kinds of cars before making the trek to the states in 2006 where they've been exploding in popularity ever since. Now, the SportsRyder eXtreme XA coil-overs that we have here are one of two offerings from Pedders for the S550 when it comes to their coil-overs. They actually make a reservoired version of the XAs for owners who are a little bit more serious about track performance and want a little bit more fluid for more consistent performance in temperatures along with individual bump and rebound damping adjustment. But for most daily drivers, weekend warriors, or occasional track day enthusiasts, the standard SportsRyder XAs that we have here are going to perform wonderfully as a lot of our customers have pointed out in the review section. Check those out, as always, if you haven't done so already. But let's start first with those dampers themselves, guys. And at the core, you're gonna find a monotube damper with a single-floating piston along with a nitrogen fill. Now, those dampers, again, are a 30-way adjustable, which is basically going to allow you guys to customize your ride quality and handling based on driving type and, of course, preference. But as is the case with most coil-overs, these are going to be fully adjustable in regards to ride height. And while Pedders doesn't exactly disclose the amount of drop possible, it's been my experience that most coil-overs in the category or in the aftermarket will allow you to slam the car to the ground to the point of being almost indrivable, if that's what you prefer, or you can choose to keep things a little bit more modest and maybe go for a small drop overstock, that is entirely possible as well, in addition to anything in between those. The springs here do feature a very tough alloy steel material that has been developed using Pedders' expansive motorsports background and do feature rates of roughly 400 pounds here for the fronts and about 784 pounds for the rears, which does make the rears a bit firmer than other coil-overs in the category. And as you can see, they've all been finished off in a bright red powder coat to kind of go along with the black and red theme here from Pedders. Now, those fronts are gonna be topped off with brand new pre-installed caster camber plates that all together will allow for up to two degrees of both positive and negative camber adjustment depending on how you're setting your ride up.Now, the plates themselves have been loaded with upper spherical bearings that will allow for nice smooth articulation without any binding and will also help contribute to an improved steering feel according to Pedders. Lastly, guys, Pedders does also toss in some brand new end links to be used with the front sway bar making for a relatively painless install. And that is one of the nice things about going with a full coil-over like this. You don't have to mess with any spring compressors or anything like that. Simply yank out those stock assemblies, bolt these guys in the place, and that's pretty much it. No modification, no crazy tool rentals needed. However, you should keep in mind, definitely, consider getting an alignment after everything has been buttoned up so you're set up properly for one, but two, you're not chewing through expensive tires at an accelerated rate. Finally, Pedders does back their XA coil-overs that we have here with a pretty solid warranty, two years to be exact, in case you happen to run into any issues. But now we wanna show you just what it takes to get these installed onto your S550 at home. And to do so, here is a detailed walkthrough of the job along with the quick tool breakdown.Man: Tools for this install: a ratcheting wrench, a 16 and 18, a 15, 16 wrench, a 19-millimeter wrench, a 17-millimeter wrench, a hammer, a 10, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, and 24 deep socket, the adjustment tools provided in the kit, a trim removal tool, a 6-millimeter Allen key, a couple extensions, an electric ratchet, an impact, and a pneumatic impact. We're gonna start by removing the top bolt from the sway bar link. I went ahead and took a pole jack and placed it under the lower control arm to take a little bit of tension off of that so we could easily get that out of the way. Now, if you are working on the ground, I would recommend a jack stand, but for us since we are in a lift, I grab the pole jack, again, just to take some of that stress off of that sway bar link.Take your 17-millimeter wrench and place it behind the sway bar link in your 18-millimeter socket to undo that bolt. Now take your trim removal tool and release the clip holding the brake line to your strut. There's gonna be two, one right here at the top of the strut and one right behind the rotor. Now, in order to gain access to our bottom bolt on our strut, we will need to remove the caliper that is gonna call for a 15-millimeter socket on the bottom and top. And hang it off to the side to keep out of your way. Now, for our strut bolts, it is going to be a 21-millimeter socket and a 24-millimeter wrench on the backside to hold the nut in place while you undo the bolt from the front side. Now grabbing our favorite tool, our trusty hammer, give a few taps to the bolts to get them out of the strut. Now taking your 17-millimeter wrench and an 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench, take off the bottom bolt of your sway bar link. Remove your sway bar link. Now underneath your hood there are three bolts holding on your strut and that would be on the strut tower. Remove those three bolts and that will release your strut. Again, this is gonna call for a 15-millimeter socket. And remove your strut. Now taking your new Pedders strut, place that into your strut tower. And with your new nuts, hand-thread them on to hold your strut in place. Grab your 15-millimeter socket and tighten down those nuts. Now take your spindle and rotate it to place it into your new strut. And using your stock hardware, place that back through. And do the same with the bottom bolt as well. And grabbing our favorite tool once again, give those bolts a couple of taps to get them flush. Put your nuts on the back of your strut bolts. And now we can tighten them down again and using our 21-millimeter socket and our 24-millimeter wrench. And while you're here, clip your brake line into your new strut. And taking your new sway bar link, place that into your new strut and onto your sway bar. And hand-thread the new nylon nuts that came with your sway bar link. And now we can tighten it down with a 19-millimeter socket. Now we can place our brake caliper back onto our rotor. Reinstall our 15-millimeter bolts. Grab your 15-millimeter socket and tighten your bolts down. Once that's done, we can place our wheel back on and repeat those steps on the other side. Now that your front assembly is put in place, we're gonna start on the rear. Grab your 18-millimeter socket and we're gonna take off the top of the strut. Next, we're gonna tackle the bottom of our sway bar end link. We're gonna take our 6-millimeter Allen wrench and an 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench. Go ahead and undo that. Now, before we unbolt the lower control arm, make sure you are supporting your subframe with a pole jack or a hydraulic jack if you're working on the ground. Hydraulic jack just in case you need to drop down your lower control arm to release the spring. We have ours on a lift, therefore, we are using our pole jack. Now before we start dropping our lower control arm, undo your brake line from the top of the sway bar link using a 10-millimeter socket.Next, we're gonna remove the two bottom bolts from the shock. This is gonna call for your 15-millimeter socket once again. Now at the front of the subframe bracket, we're gonna loosen these two bolts using a 13-millimeter socket. Do not fully remove them. And then we're gonna go ahead and take out this larger bolt. And for your larger bolt, it's gonna be a 21-millimeter socket. Again, we are completely removing this one. Now, using that same 21-millimeter socket, we're gonna remove the bolt on the subframe on the rear and right above the exhaust. We've also added an extension to go right past the exhaust. And now we can start lowering our pole jack so we can release our spring. Take it slowly because that spring does have some tension on it and you don't want it to just pop out on you.Once you have the control arm lowered enough, you can pull your spring out. Now, before we can get our shock onto our vehicle, we do need to reuse this bracket, so we're gonna remove it from our original shock and place it onto our new one. That is the only thing that we are gonna be reusing as the new shock comes with its own boot. Start by removing the cap from your shock. I'm grabbing a 15-millimeter socket and undoing the bolt at the top. Now transfer that over to your new shock. And you're provided with a new nut that is gonna call for a 14-millimeter socket. And replace the cap onto your brake. Now, you're gonna take your new adjustable spring perch and place that onto the Mustang. After that, we can get our spring placed into the seating underneath and into the isolator still on the lower control arm.Now raise your pole jack or hydraulic jack just a tad to start to get the spring seated correctly. Now we can take our new shock, put that into place, and use the new nuts provided to bolt it back on. Now, given that your new shock does not have a welded nut on the backend, it's a little bit more difficult than just bolting them back on. You do need to hold your shock in place while you get the bolt through and start to thread the nut on the top. And you're gonna do the same for both of them. Now before we bolt down our bottom shock bolts, be sure to thread it into the top and bolt those down. Once again, this is gonna call for your 18-millimeter socket. Now, using a 17-millimeter socket to hold the nut on your new shock and a 15 to tighten the bolt, go ahead and torque them down. At this time, you can put your sway bar end link back into your lower control arm. Get your nuts started back on there. And once again with your 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench and your 6-millimeter Allen key or wrench, get that taken care of by tightening it down. Get your brake line reinstalled. Again this is gonna call for your 10-millimeter socket. Get your subframe bolts back in place and torque them back down. Again, this is gonna call for your 21-millimeter socket. And with your 13-millimeter socket, tighten up the two smaller bolts at the front of that bracket. Now we can place our tire back on and repeat those steps on the other side. Now that you have your new coil-over kit placed on the car, I'm gonna show you a little bit about adjustments so you can get it to the size that you want it to be on the ground. Now, for demonstration purposes, I'm going to make this as high as possible on the suspension and the reverse that would be how you lower the vehicle. You're gonna wanna undo the ring at the bottom of the strut and give it a little room so you can rotate the shaft here, and then undo the secondary ring. And as you can see, our spring is a bit compressed, so it is at its lowest setting. And now we have the spring at its highest height. And we can lock our lock rings when we get it to that desired height.Again, you would go the opposite way to lower your Mustang. And for the rear, same rules apply. If you want a lower ride height, you compress the spring as much as possible. For a higher ride height, you loosen up the rings to make the spring as tall as possible. And for the shock on the rear, undo the ring at the bottom of the shock, that way you can rotate to the height that you need it to be at. And again, rotate your shock until the bolt holes line up. And this is gonna call for 18-millimeter socket for the top shock bolts. And be sure to retighten that bottom ring at the shock. And that's gonna wrap it up for our review and install of the Pedders eXtreme XA coil-over kit with camber plates fitting your '15 to '21 Mustang without MagneRide.
