        Remanufactured pump beware

My sons 2003 Mustang V6 base model.....replaced the original with this remanufactured one. Whines and squeals like nobody's business. Tried giving it a couple of days to work the "air bubbles" out of the system, nope....still squeals and whines. Very disappointed, buy OEM!!!!!

1 1991 LX - Rasiz Installation Time: Afternoon

        Faulty old pump

I received it in a CARDONE box, i installed the pump. making the same old straining noise as my old factory pump from 28 years ago . Pump seemed dusty as well, i didnt think too much about it. Well there goes a whole afternoon of wrenching for nothing, a 100 bucks, and some steering fluid.

        4 2000 V6 - JoshA Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Good but not perfect

The item works very well but even after maybe 2 weeks of it being installed, it still whines a bit on start up and it’s not as quiet as one would hope. When installing, you’re going to need something to pull the pulley off which is not an everyday garage tool. Great part and works great.

      3 Top Rated Questions

Will this power steering pump eliminate the whining sound completely or will there still be a bit of whining? Mine is pretty loud and would like to make it quiet or at least reduce it.

      • The OPR Power Steering Pump w/ Reservoir will not whine or will at least be very quiet. If your factory pump is making noise, then it may be coming to the end of its life. Replacing it with a new unit will help reduce the whine, as long as it is indeed the pump causing the commotion.

Ive been looking for some form or upgrade to the standard pump I currently have in my ride. The issue is that the pump I have was rated for 16x7 in aluminum rims, I currently have 18x8.5 in chrome rims on it and the stock pump seems to struggle quite a bit. so much to the point when at a full stop/in park, trying to turn the wheel will have the car drastically loose RPM.

      • This could certainly be an issue with the power steering pump, however, it would be very difficult to diagnose the issue. We would advise having a mechanic look into what is causing the problem before replacing any parts to fix it.

Will this fit a 1989 LX 5.0 with auto transmission? I do not see any pumps on your site that show compatibility with 89 6.0 auto trans. mike

      • No, this product will not work for your 89 as it only works for the 90-93 5.0. Unfortunately, because you have an 89 5.0 auto, we do not have a steering pump that would be compatible currently on our website.
