Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. I'm here with my complete breakdown and overview of the Raxiom multimedia navigation system available for all 2005 to 2009 Mustangs. Raxiom is without a doubt the industry leader in producing lighting and technology for your Mustang, thanks to innovative products like their Gen 5 tail lights and now cutting edge navigation systems available for your S197. Now, if you'd like to stay up to date with more products from Raxiom and other brands, well, then you have to subscribe to our YouTube channel for the best Mustang specific content on the web, American Muscle Videos. This system from Raxiom is the answer to all '05 to '09 owners out there who have been looking for an affordable factory style navigation and multimedia center that packs all the modern amenities such as the Bluetooth hands free phone capability, HD and satellite radio capabilities, DVD player, and of course that included backup camera. Before we really get into it, I do want to mention that the Raxiom navigation here does give off a very factory like appearance, meaning it's going to blend seamlessly with your S197's interior. Now, because of that, it does still retain the factory AC controls down low, and it's also going to put the screen up high, just making operation and navigation that much easier while in use. So, now let's get into some of the basics you can expect with this system. The Raxiom navigation is based upon the six and a half inch full color high resolution touchscreen LCD display. It does feature turn by turn navigation software. It does have Bluetooth capabilities allowing you to listen to your phone calls and stream wireless music through your phone. It does play your CDs and DVDs. It is HD and satellite radio capable, and it does have Pandora interface. Now, it does still retain the use of your factory steering wheel controls if your car's equipped, and it does include that full color backup camera I talked about earlier. It is also going to include all the dash bezels and surrounds needed to get it installed, again giving you that factory like appearance. That Bluetooth compatibility will allow you to pair either your iPhone or Android device wirelessly to the Raxiom navigation, giving you total hands free control of your cell phone which, as by now you guys probably know, is pretty much the law in every county or state. Again, the Bluetooth compatibility will also give you the ability to wirelessly play the music stored on your phone through your car speakers. Now, let's touch on the navigation software a little bit, because I really do think it helps to make this unit much more effective and easy to use. The iGO primo turn by turn navigation software, for being loaded with so many bells and whistles, is extremely easy to use and is fully customizable. In fact, the total display is customizable, thanks to the different backgrounds, map colors, and even navigation voices available through the touchscreen menu here. Now again, guys, this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as features are concerned. And I don't want to bore you to death talking about every single one of them here. If you do want to read up more about this unit, then I strongly suggest you head back to the product page at AmericanMuscle.com, if you're not already there. One of the best features with the Raxiom navigation has to be the ease of install. Some minor disassebly of your radio area is pretty much a given, but other than that, everything can be accomplished with some basic hand tools, and is completely plug and play. It should take you roughly two hours from start to finish. I will say a big chunk of that time will be spent either running the backup camera, which I suggest going under the carpet using the door sill plates, and of course you do have to run the GPS antenna, which again, I suggest for a clean install, just going up the A pillar and mounting it somewhere to the windshield. Now again, guys, if you do have any questions about this particular unit, or about the install then you should know by now, you can reach out to a Mustang expert anytime either by phone or by email. So, if you're one of the many '05 to '09 owners out there who just so happened to miss out on the factory navigation option and are looking for an affordable, yet attractive solution, then you have to check out the Raxiom navigation and multimedia system available right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

I have a 2007 Mustang GT Convertible. It has a Shaker 1000 with Sirius radio and a stock antenna at the back. Is the stock antenna a GPS/Sirius antenna? i.e. does it perform both functions or do I need to install a second antenna for the GPS function. Thanks

    Less than satisfied

It took 6 hours to install. Instructions were incomplete. They say it is a direct plug in replacement and I was able to find a place to attach all of the plugs but the radio reception is lousy (I read all of the blogs and double checked all of the connections but still have intermittent reception). Unable to get clear enough reception to pick up HD stations. I usually have already backed up out of my parking space before the backup camera activates. And am unable to get the AUX jack in the car to connect to the radio. From the other reviews I have seen many other people have had the same problem and have ended up going to an installation shop to complete the connections. If I was going to spend the money for the installation, I would have bought a less expensive radio with more features.

    Great system

It works great and I love it, but there are a couple weird things. Apparently the Bluetooth audio isn't compatible with my phone (Galaxy s7) which is rather disappointing. I've tried a couple of my family's phones, but no Samsung seems to work. I'm switching to an IPhone X to fix this problem, but it should have worked from the get go. Rather disappointing. Other than that, I love the system and would highly recommend

The camera looks great and you can access it while on the road not just going on reverse. You can customize the colors and backgrounds.

    Poor

Direction for install very weak had to research how to wire up. Takes to long to boot up. GPS times are not accurate. Very disappointed. Backup camera video is grainy especially after dark. Not worth the money. Was better off with factory shaker radio cd chamger and separate GPS.

    Locks up often

Anyone with the Raxion radio have problems with it locking up on them? Mine locks up every few days when I switch audio sources and the only way to unlock it is to press the reset button (then I have to enter the code to turn the satelite radio back on and fiddle with my settings to get them back to where they were to begin with ... what a pain, especially while driving). Spoke with the Raxion engineers and they didn’t seem to have a clue. Wish I’d gone with another brand. When it works, it’s great, but I’m pulling my hair out with this lock up issue.

    Very Happy

Received the Raxiom OE-Style GPS Navigation is a very timely manner. Since I have replaced my original stereo with an after market one, I already knew what it took to remove all the connectors. So the old one was out in about 20 minutes and started the install with this one. It is very straight forward. Already has XM on my old radio so used the same antenna, same with the GPS antenna. Did have to buy the XM tuner kit as the old one was not compatible. No problem. Had the new stereo in within a few hours as it takes time to run the wires for the Back-Up camera and Mic. But if you take your time it is very easy to do and I don't do this very often. Did have one issue with the Pandora connection. I was able to stream is through the Bluetooth connection, but would not show the images and some functionality was gone. The Pandora ICON stayed greyed out. The best way is to turn on Pandora on your phone and then connect it via a lightning cable to the USB port. The Pandora ICON will illuminate and it functions just as it does on your phone. No issues at all, also connected an IPOD the same way and works great. Very please so far.

    Not Worth It

I have four problems with this 1. Every time i try and turn the volume up or down on this system it will do the opposite or start to work properly to then suddenly go all the way up or all the way back down. since it did this my driver side speaker now rattles (i think it blow the speaker) and i get a random scream of loud music randomly every time i try to change the volume. 2. I also cant connect my phone to play my music unless i have an aux cord because apparently this thing cant connect to a brand new Samsung Galaxy. i can talk thru the mic and answer calls on the system but no music will play. I have only been able to get iphones to play on this. 3. The GPS on here is also out dated. Some roads that have been state maintain for a few years now still do not show up on the maps. Even my road witch i have lived on for four years now is not show on the map. So every time i go to leave my house the navigation looks like its going crazy trying to find what near by road im on until i get to the highway. 4. The last problem is everytime i get out of the car if i dont turn down the volume all the way then the driver speaker or should i say the newly blown speaker makes this loud humming noise almost like there is a bunch of bees in it. I dont know if thats because i didn't put it in right or if its just the system. Definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone

Quite satisfying radio to install on you own

Installation went well. Disconnecting the airconditioning control harness was a hassle; but once you get past that - Raxiom's unit swapped in smoothly. Took a bit of time to run the camera wiring to the license plate - nothing complicated just time consuming. The radio features (touch screen, navigation, music/dvd, bluetooth/phone, sound quality, ...) are all quite nice. Also, learned something new... HD radio stations often have a second stream broadcasting simultaneously on the same frequency that you can switch between pressing the HD1<>HD2... touchscreen button.

    Easy install, factory look

I have the Raxiom unit in my 2013, and have been really happy with it 99 of the time. As such I got a unit for my daughter's 09 sixer. Granted I didn't buy it new, as I had a hard time with having to choke up $750 so mine was used though it was only 3 months old. (you don't get any warranty either when you get it used) The install times some people are quoting on here are absurdly long (and if a stereo shop quotes you over 2 hours, they are milking the hourly clock for your money). The install of the head unit is a less than 1 hour job if you have any technical ability. It's as simple as take off the center console, remove side console covers, remove center control plate and remove radio. A total 12 screws are involved there. Unplug 3 plugs and the antenna and the old one is out. The Raxiom plug is a bit messy but each plug only goes in one place. Install harness, plug in various plugs, install radio. The reverse camera cables should be plugged in during the radio install and left hanging out the side panel. At that point only the running of the reverse camera wire and installing the camera are left, which shouldn't take more than an hour. The interface is much like the one I have in the 13, relatively well thought out and easily moved around. If you have factory SiriusXM you do have to do the final step listed in the PDF instructions here on the AM site which involve entering a code to set it to on. I chose this unit as it is a clean, factory looking install and maintains all the factory functions while adding bluetooth with no adapters hanging around in the car or having to be installed and hidden. The Mic is built into the head unit so you don't even have to run an external microphone. I dinged it one star because Rosen's (this unit is made by Rosen) customer service is pure garbage. God forbid you need anything from them, be prepared to deal with someone who eats crayons for lunch and speaks english as a 4th language. There are also expansion slots for you to add amplifiers and other components later on. Overall, this is the best and most simple way to get everything you want and look like it came in the car

    My 2008 bullitt raxiom install

Works as advertised No issues with install, wiring direction a little confusing, would have helped to clarify that the ford factory sat radio receiver works but you do have to install the gps antenna that comes with the raxiom for the nav to work. The sat radio works wit the ford factory installed system. So both must be hooked up. That was unclear to me as I did the install. All works great and fits well. About 3 hours from start to finish.

    Over all great replacement

Apparently backup camera was upside down and installer could not fix it, so he put upgraded hd camera that had bad tilt . So camera seemed to be a bust and I can't figure out how to tell lady to stop telling me I am over the speed limit. But sound is loud and clear, bluetooth is good and Nav is typical, not sure if it needs updating still like my Maps on phone better for accuracy but this nav visual is awesome easy to understand visual.

    Awesome system

This system performs beautifully, the Nav is easy to set, the backup camera is crystal clear and it paired our phones very easily. The installation was done by tech who knew what he was doing but still took twice as long as the video. Our 06 mustang GT has a small spoiler and he located the camera under the wing centered which gives excellent visibility rather than on either side of the tag light. We are so very pleased with the product.
