Review & Install Video

Hey everybody, I'm Justin with I'm here with my complete breakdown and overview of the Raxiom multimedia navigation system available for all 2005 to 2009 Mustangs. Raxiom is without a doubt the industry leader in producing lighting and technology for your Mustang, thanks to innovative products like their Gen 5 tail lights and now cutting edge navigation systems available for your S197. Now, if you'd like to stay up to date with more products from Raxiom and other brands, well, then you have to subscribe to our YouTube channel for the best Mustang specific content on the web, American Muscle Videos. This system from Raxiom is the answer to all '05 to '09 owners out there who have been looking for an affordable factory style navigation and multimedia center that packs all the modern amenities such as the Bluetooth hands free phone capability, HD and satellite radio capabilities, DVD player, and of course that included backup camera. Before we really get into it, I do want to mention that the Raxiom navigation here does give off a very factory like appearance, meaning it's going to blend seamlessly with your S197's interior. Now, because of that, it does still retain the factory AC controls down low, and it's also going to put the screen up high, just making operation and navigation that much easier while in use. So, now let's get into some of the basics you can expect with this system. The Raxiom navigation is based upon the six and a half inch full color high resolution touchscreen LCD display. It does feature turn by turn navigation software. It does have Bluetooth capabilities allowing you to listen to your phone calls and stream wireless music through your phone. It does play your CDs and DVDs. It is HD and satellite radio capable, and it does have Pandora interface. Now, it does still retain the use of your factory steering wheel controls if your car's equipped, and it does include that full color backup camera I talked about earlier. It is also going to include all the dash bezels and surrounds needed to get it installed, again giving you that factory like appearance. That Bluetooth compatibility will allow you to pair either your iPhone or Android device wirelessly to the Raxiom navigation, giving you total hands free control of your cell phone which, as by now you guys probably know, is pretty much the law in every county or state. Again, the Bluetooth compatibility will also give you the ability to wirelessly play the music stored on your phone through your car speakers. Now, let's touch on the navigation software a little bit, because I really do think it helps to make this unit much more effective and easy to use. The iGO primo turn by turn navigation software, for being loaded with so many bells and whistles, is extremely easy to use and is fully customizable. In fact, the total display is customizable, thanks to the different backgrounds, map colors, and even navigation voices available through the touchscreen menu here. Now again, guys, this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as features are concerned. And I don't want to bore you to death talking about every single one of them here. If you do want to read up more about this unit, then I strongly suggest you head back to the product page at, if you're not already there. One of the best features with the Raxiom navigation has to be the ease of install. Some minor disassebly of your radio area is pretty much a given, but other than that, everything can be accomplished with some basic hand tools, and is completely plug and play. It should take you roughly two hours from start to finish. I will say a big chunk of that time will be spent either running the backup camera, which I suggest going under the carpet using the door sill plates, and of course you do have to run the GPS antenna, which again, I suggest for a clean install, just going up the A pillar and mounting it somewhere to the windshield. Now again, guys, if you do have any questions about this particular unit, or about the install then you should know by now, you can reach out to a Mustang expert anytime either by phone or by email. So, if you're one of the many '05 to '09 owners out there who just so happened to miss out on the factory navigation option and are looking for an affordable, yet attractive solution, then you have to check out the Raxiom navigation and multimedia system available right here at

I bought this radio because I do really like the factory look and wanted to keep it looking that way, the radio itself is OK, Maybe mine was a dud because all the other reviews are good on it however i'll start with installation. If you have no experience installing car radios the manual is going to leave you stumped at points so please do seek out advice. The radio itself does give you a better quality sound coming out your speakers than the factory option however any after market radio will do this for you. Everytime I try to connect my iphone to it everything pops up on the screen (lagging its life away) but no sound comes out. I installed the Rosen brand app(Rosen makes the radio) to try to connect and didnt make any difference. The color options do match your MyColor which is nice, however does not come with white as advertised. The radio's GPS is outdated and doesnt give you live updates as your phones Google maps does, however it can get you from point A to point B but may not give you the fastest option as your phone would. The Bluetooth works fairly well but sometimes cuts out, thats pretty much all I can say about that. As far as designing your own sound settings I actually did enjoy this aspect of the radio, it does give you a good arrange of options for putting the sound exactly where you want it. All in all I defiantly think you can get a better radio anywhere else, amazon, car toys, best buy ect. I give this radio a 2 out of 5 stars because it misleads people, it wasnt what I was expecting at all, it lags, isnt smooth and is slow. Also last time I wrote this review American Muscle failed to post it.

Exactly what i have been looking for

I have been looking for years for a good touch screen head unit with built in nav for my 09 GT, but was never satisfied with any of the aftermarket stuff out there enough to replace my stock shaker500 system. Then this thing came out and I bought it the second it was in stock. -For starters, I bought this because it was commissioned by AM to look stock, that means it needs no dash adapter to fit, and is the exact same size as the stock head unit and even uses most of the same wires, so install was pretty easy. It also has no logos anywhere on it that mentions an aftermarket brand, it truly looks like a factory option. -The install was pretty straight forward. The instructions that came with the unit were mediocre at best, but if you know what you are doing with radio installs and have any experience at all, you will figure it out fairly easily. If not, find a friend to help you install it. -The touch screen is fantastic and easy to use, unlike many of the aftermarket systems out there where you have to stab at the screen to press anything, this one, you barely have to touch it. You can even scroll down lists like you can on an ipod touch. -As for the navigation, it is one of the better ones i have ever used, maybe even better than my garmin i have for my daily commuter. nav is quick, gives you traffic updates, speed limit updates, you can customize alerts and just about anything else you can think of. Also fyi, if you are like me and do not want to mount that ugly gps antenna on the outside of your car, you don't have to. I ran the wire to the back seat, and mounted mine on the inside of my car, right under the rear windshield behind the rear passenger's head, and i have had no problems whatsoever, even through my dark tints. -The backup camera was something that i was worried about because I did not want to have to drill through my rear bumper, but you do not really have a choice because there is nowhere else to mount it. However, the unit comes with the drill bit you need and if you are careful like i was, it will leave no marks. I placed my camera as far in as i could, to the left of the license plate bulb. It looks really clean, and you can't even notice it unless you get down to eye level by my license plate. The camera turns on both when i put the car in revers, and also when i press the camera button, meaning i can turn it on while i am driving forward as well, which is a cool feature -As for other features, you can plug in an ipod to the head unit very seamlessly through either the USB, either of the AUX ports, you can also plug in a USB to play music if you wish. You can also play dvd's through the cd player, or use an sd card, or also even use the inputs to plug in whatever you'd like. -really my only disappointment would be that if you plan to use the factory siriusxm device, it dosn't look as clean as it should. because your factory adapter was not made for a nice screen like that, when you use the factory one with this head unit, all it will display is exactly the same stuff that was on your factory unit. meaning you can still only see one bit of information at a time (xm channel/artist/song/album ect.), and you still get no album art. Which kind of takes away from the unit. I believe if you purchase one of the xm adapters mentioned in the instructions, it will remedy that problem, but then you have to go spend another 40-50 bucks... Otherwise, absolutely no complaints about this unit, I have now had it in for over a month and it has been nothing but joy to use and makes the interior of my car much more functional. Just make sure to keep your eyes on the road, when i first got it, it was very distracting and hard to pay attention to the road. Turn down the brightness, it will help.

Second To None !! Must Have !!

I work for a local Ford dealership as a parts manager and get a new Ford to drive every 5000 miles and got a bit spoiled when my demos have nav/Bluetooth/usb,camera etc. and then hop in my '08 GT and have none of the above and there is really nothing "after market" that looks and fits like factory....Until Raxiom !!! This thing is the best mod I done to my 'stang ,perfect fit, looks factory and really quite simple to install and best yet not have to cut/splice or hack into, the only thing I had to do was drill a mounting hole for the camera and tap one,yes one wire for the DVD option. All in all install took about three hours because of taking interior pieces out to run a clean wiring install and that wasn't that bad being these pieces remove easily without yes I highly recommend Raxiom OE-Style unit for that perfect addition !...Now I have that "spoiled" feeling in my Mustang...Thanks American Muscle and Raxiom!

    Be Patient

The install took 5 1/2 hours. The night before I put the unit into the car I removed the overhead bezel with the map lights, and took it apart to find a mounting spot that the phone mic would fit and drilled a 1/2 hole to slide the mic in from the back. Looks nice not clipped to a visor, and sounds great. The nav antenna is magnetic, so I just stuck it to a piece of metal under the dash and it works fine there. The back up camera I mounted the same way everyone's described, then across the hump under the carpet and under the console. My unit kept turning itself off and on randomly, even when the car was off and I had locked it and left the car. Frustrating, but just needed an updated CAN module (the part wrapped in thin foam). Replacing that only took a few minutes and now the thing works great. Love it. Be patient, it's quality and worth the effort. Looks factory and sounds good. Not sure that I have the same control over the subs that I had with my Shaker 500, where I could select the seat subs that were on and off, but I'm not complaining.

    Installation Problematic

The installation estimate of 2 hours is not even close. American Muscle provided no assistance except the advice to call the manufacturer, Rosen, who never answered the number I was given to call. I got to step 8 with just a little difficult. The instructions which mention the "tricky" right corner plug that must be removed from the back of the the console panel (behind the a/c switch) could have and should have told you the release comes from pushing down on the little lever. I spent a good deal of time searching the internet to find that necessary tidbit. How does "a little tricky" provide any real assistance in an installation guide? All the wiring is supposed to be figured out by a single picture in step 9.The instructions DO NOT provide a step by step approach, nor are you told in anyway what plugs into what from the massive amount of cables / harnesses nor what plugs into the unit. After a couple of hours I gave up and took it to a professional installer I've used beforewho took 3.5 hours to install everything and charged over $300 to do so. I got the same time estimate from a Rosen dealer in the area as well, who laughed at the 2 hour installation estimate. Now onto the unit. So far I a like the performance of the unit except that when I play my music from my phone I get no artwork or song information. If I plug the Iphone into the USB it treats it like an iPod and I get everything even the album graphics. I like the hands free phone operation and dialing.

    Raxiom Radio

Radio installed with no problems in about 1 hour but took about 2 more hours to route the wires for the back up camera, microphone and the navigation sensor. Lots of wires but don't be scared only plug into one place. Quality and fit were excellent, performance so far has been great (only have had it installed for a couple of days). with the touch screen everything was straight forward to set up. Phone was easy to pair up. Best bang for the buck

Great unit, small trouble after installation

If you're looking to upgrade your Mustang's stereo system, this is definitely the system for you! I had it professionally installed and about 45 minutes later, the system shut itself off and restarted itself several times. Then it just wouldn't turn on. By then the installer already closed up for the night so I decided to take matters in to my own hands. I called Rosen (the company that actually makes this unit) and the gentleman was more than helpful. He had me check both fuses in the vehicle first and neither was tripped. He then had me try to reset the unit using the reset button on the front of the unit above the AUX input, which didn't work. He then asked me to un-install the unit (without removing the wires) and check the CAM module and call him back once this was done. This module is a small black "box" that's wrapped in gray foam. (If you're installing this unit yourself, make sure the foam stays on this module.) The gentleman from Rosen had be check if this module came loose from the wiring harness, which it did. I reconnected it, and the unit works great now, no issues. However, he is sending me a new CAM module with a firmware update free of charge for the trouble. So if your unit ends up turning itself on and off after installation, make sure this module is connected tight to the harness. He informed me that sometimes it will just come loose after installation. The gentleman recommended that I use some small zip ties to ensure it stays connected to the harness, which I did. All in all, even with this small inconvenience, I love this unit! The sound quality is amazing (better than the Shaker 500 I had), and the navigation is spot on in town (it's a little off in the country, but so is my independent GPS unit). Plus, the back-up camera is really clear. Again, I really recommend this unit for your Mustang!

    Perfect System

My friend and I installed this together. It was plug and play but there was one wire that we soldered into the emergency brake switch and a ground wire we put below the unit as per the instructions. Neither was difficult to do. The camera also came with it's own separate instructions which partially contradicted the main instructions. We attached the camera to the supplied power on the unit itself as per the main instructions. Now that I've had a chance to try it all out I absolutely love it and wouldn't choose anything else ! I love the factory fit and look ! I love that it is so easy to use and isn't overwhelming at all. I can't stand electronics that are confusing to use and figure out ! I was concerned about the sound quality but it's better than the stock shaker and it has separate sub controls and EQ etc. My car is a 5 speed and when I put it in reverse the camera does come on automatically. I am happy with the price however with the US/CAN exchange right now it cost me over $1,300 but I did save on the install being plug and play. My friend and I spent about 5 hours on it but we are very picky and we spent some time doing a couple of other things. It would have been much faster had the instructions been alot better ! That's my only complaint. The instructions are good right up to where you connect all the cables together. The instructions just suddenly stop and leave you with a pile of questions. We ran the camera wire to the back without removing any panels or seats and tucked it away securely and tidily under the door sills etc. We didn't have to take the bumper off either to drill and mount the camera beside the licence plate light. My car is a convertible and the wire just fed right into the trunk through the rear seat on the passenger side and the existing grommet in the rear trunk wall for the tail lights, and then to the bumper. The GPS module we ran up the passenger side "A" pillar and to the frame of the windshield at the top on the passenger side using the magnet on the module. There was lots of length in all the cables to reach where they needed to go. This unit comes with an internal mic and an external one that we ran with the GPS cable to the passenger sun visor. You can switch between the 2 mics in the settings on the unit. I called my friend trying both mics and he said the external one sounded better than the internal. Like I said, I love it !!! I would also recommend the Raxiom LED tail lights !!! Thank you Raxiom and American Muscle !

Best Nav unit out there that looks this good!

This radio has to be the best out there for any '05 to '09 Mustang. I ordered it to replace my Shaker500 radio in my 2007 V6 Pony Package 'vert. Like the other reviews stated, the instructions were lacking but there is plenty of help online for how to install it. I've been installing radios in cars for a while now and I really appreciated how this was laid out and how most of the wiring was already done, certain things just needed to be connected for your particular setup. I put the GPS antenna behind the 2 vents above the radio area and it has no problem getting signal. The iGO Primo software is great and works well, I really like the the speed limit feature. The audio quality sounds much better than the stock Ford radio and is a lot more customizable as well due to having an EQ. The back-up camera is great and works really well at night. This will probably take most people a good afternoon to install, especially to run the wire to the rear of the car, which I removed the rear seats and trunk liner and followed the taillight wiring harness straight out of the car. I like how the knob/button illumination matches the factory MyColor feature and how this radio looks so stock, most people will think it came with the car. It's a great way to modernize your interior and bring some much needed creature comforts to your ride especially for people like myself since my 'Stang is my daily driver. Overall, it is a great product and is worth every penny and I would gladly do business with AM again!

    The Missing Link

I bought and installed the system myself: No experience with audio installation prior. The rear-view camera is a quick and easy install with the provided hole saw. You can fish the wire up through the same grommet the plate light goes through. My Mustang is a convertible, so I mounted the antennas on the dash inside the car and have ZERO signal issues either top up or top down. It does NOT come with a Sirius receiver but the addition is easy for a SiriusXM SXV300v1 from a local big box store (plug and play). Tech support if needed from the manufacturer is extremely helpful. The system COMES WITH NEW MAP GUARANTEE from the maps update site You will need to download and use the Rosen Piranha HD Synch Tool from the list of supported devices. The system will only recognize up to a 16MB flash drive for map updates, don't use a huge one or it will not read it. Pairs easily with iPhone, sound quality during calls is better than the phone per my GF. Multiple additional inputs are built into the wiring harness for either additional cameras, toys, amplifiers, or even headrest monitors. I highly recommend the system!

Nice Factory Look, easy to install. Only issue I ran into was my stock Sirrusxm receiver was not compatible with this unit. My local car stereo shop had a compatible receiver and everything works. I like the factory installed look, the back up camera, and the GPS maps (which needs to be updated. Other than that a good unit for the price.

    What a journey

OK... I received the Raxiom OE by UPS delivery. I took my car and the system to the best auto-stereo installation shop in my area. It took 4 hours and $400.00 to do the installation. I went home happy. My back up camera worked great, also the AM/FM, Bluetooth, Equalizer, and GPS. I could not get a CD to load. The two screws in the back of the unit had not been removed so my CD's would not load. The system did not recognize the satellite Sirius Radio. I had to call Rosen (the tech people for the Raxiom) to get it to work. If you would like they're phone number it is 1-844-580-1799. Ask for or follow prompts to the tech people. I did not anticipate all the extra issues.

    Good unit, terrible documentation

Bought unit as a present and finally installed. Installation definitely takes longer than two hours. I am not a novice or amateur and the install took much longer. There are no installation instructions, just a series of vague pictures. The manufacturer tech support, not American Muscle, is great. 844-580-1799. The GPS antenna works well inside the windshield mounted to the dashmat cover with velcro. The delay for the backup camera to come on when put into reverse is annoying. Remote phone mic works well mounted on the driver side visor. Overall a nice addition to the car even though it is pricey. Fits very well in the dash. Installation instructions need to be vastly improved with a distribution diagram showing the cables and their applications. Not just a tiny label on some of the cables. Operation manual that came with unit showing actual locations and functions of the controls. FYI, as with stock radio the unit stays on when key is turned off until door is opened AND you have to wait for about 3 seconds until you hear a double beep indicating unit has powered down. If you turn key back on before the beeps unit can get lost and functions erratically. Turn off key, open door and wait for beeps to reset unit.

    Battery Issue again

I received my navigation system in November 2015, since I installed it, I start having battery issues, same as the gentleman who wrote a review in August. I guess if you drive it daily, you might not notice it this since it takes a few days before the battery goes dead on you. At first, I thought that I did something wrong during the installation but when I started troubleshooting the drop of currant, I noticed a drop coming from the radio. I called American Muscle and right away they agreed to send me a new one. I should receive it soon and I'm crossing my fingers that the new one will be fine. On a positive note, everything else worked great, I love the navigation, the sound, the Bluetooth and I was amazed by the clarity of the back up camera at night. I gave the unit a 3 star for now but for the support from American Muscle is a 5, these guys are amazing. I still recommend the unit, I hope you won't get the same issue.

    Awesome Raxiom Radio

loved the radio. All plug and play and fits well in the original place. Love the equalizer gives more room to adjust the music. The look is amazing the gps works great. The blue tooth is also a great addition. All in all a great change from the shaker 500 that i had before.

    Raxiom OE-Style GPS Navigation w/Bluetooth @ Back-up Camera

As mentioned by most, it took me and my son about 3 hours to install. Like other people who purchased this product, sure wish there was a video to show installation. A few tricky spots for sure but when finished it looks great, can't tell it's not OEM. As a side not, there is a plug on back of radio that is not used, took us awhile to figure it out. If you have any questions get in touch and we'll try to help out. Good Luck

    Raxiom Navigation

first off this is awesome! I love it! The fit is OEM. Only complaints, directions are horrible, but customer support from rosen who makes the unit is wonderful. Also 2 hour install is a joke unless you do this for a living! I took my time and with 2 calls to rosen for questions BEFORE I started install made all the difference. I was able to put the GPS antenna inside the car behind the back seat between the speakers works great full signal and my windows are tinted so you can't see it. Was not lucky with the siriusxm antenna I had to mount on roof ,I could not get any reception sitting in back window, but at least I don't have 2 ugly antennas on my car. I bought plastic trim removal tools at harbor freight for $5 came with 5 pcs. A MUST HAVE! to remove console and door sills . I also removed the glove box which made it so much easier to get my hands in to unplug ac controls and to route wires. To remove it there is four screws outside bottom of glovebox then squeeze both sides of glovebox in at same time and it comes right out. I have an automatic so I did Not have to splice reverse trigger wire to work backup camera. The only wire I had to splice was the wires the unit came with not FACTORY! to install the backup camera. When routing the backup camera which I did before anything. I removed the rear taillight passenger side. there is one rubber grommet that is not used, I took a razor blade and slit it and after I drilled the hole next to the tag light for the camera I fed the wires thru that then up and thru the rubber grommet then the trunk . I also removed the backseat the bench part only, and that gave plenty off room to feed the wires thru the trunk to the door sills which come off easy just use plastic pry tools to remove, then route wires. the backseat has a push tab in the middle of each seat just take your fingers and squeeze pins together and the seat pops right off that easy! There are 2 ac connects that sit right behind the ac controls take your time they are tight, driver side pop pin with small flat head screw driver and same with passenger side before you can remove panel, passenger side is a little different it is half moon shaped, press pin and lift half moon shape up and it slides out. Also right under the ford head unit there is a 10mm bolt that sits by its self use that for your ground. And if you want siriusxm, you must buy a tuner to install at this time! I bought one at best buy on sale $41, normally $80. ITEM number SVX300. I never installed a radio before and this car means everything to me, trust me just take your time and walk away for a few mins when things get a little tough, but if I installed it you can to. I also bought a bag of plastic zip ties to keep all wires from trunk to under head unit neat its a must have. I hope this helps?
