Exactly what i have been looking for
I have been looking for years for a good touch screen head unit with built in nav for my 09 GT, but was never satisfied with any of the aftermarket stuff out there enough to replace my stock shaker500 system. Then this thing came out and I bought it the second it was in stock.
-For starters, I bought this because it was commissioned by AM to look stock, that means it needs no dash adapter to fit, and is the exact same size as the stock head unit and even uses most of the same wires, so install was pretty easy. It also has no logos anywhere on it that mentions an aftermarket brand, it truly looks like a factory option.
-The install was pretty straight forward. The instructions that came with the unit were mediocre at best, but if you know what you are doing with radio installs and have any experience at all, you will figure it out fairly easily. If not, find a friend to help you install it.
-The touch screen is fantastic and easy to use, unlike many of the aftermarket systems out there where you have to stab at the screen to press anything, this one, you barely have to touch it. You can even scroll down lists like you can on an ipod touch.
-As for the navigation, it is one of the better ones i have ever used, maybe even better than my garmin i have for my daily commuter. nav is quick, gives you traffic updates, speed limit updates, you can customize alerts and just about anything else you can think of. Also fyi, if you are like me and do not want to mount that ugly gps antenna on the outside of your car, you don't have to. I ran the wire to the back seat, and mounted mine on the inside of my car, right under the rear windshield behind the rear passenger's head, and i have had no problems whatsoever, even through my dark tints.
-The backup camera was something that i was worried about because I did not want to have to drill through my rear bumper, but you do not really have a choice because there is nowhere else to mount it. However, the unit comes with the drill bit you need and if you are careful like i was, it will leave no marks. I placed my camera as far in as i could, to the left of the license plate bulb. It looks really clean, and you can't even notice it unless you get down to eye level by my license plate. The camera turns on both when i put the car in revers, and also when i press the camera button, meaning i can turn it on while i am driving forward as well, which is a cool feature
-As for other features, you can plug in an ipod to the head unit very seamlessly through either the USB, either of the AUX ports, you can also plug in a USB to play music if you wish. You can also play dvd's through the cd player, or use an sd card, or also even use the inputs to plug in whatever you'd like.
-really my only disappointment would be that if you plan to use the factory siriusxm device, it dosn't look as clean as it should. because your factory adapter was not made for a nice screen like that, when you use the factory one with this head unit, all it will display is exactly the same stuff that was on your factory unit. meaning you can still only see one bit of information at a time (xm channel/artist/song/album ect.), and you still get no album art. Which kind of takes away from the unit. I believe if you purchase one of the xm adapters mentioned in the instructions, it will remedy that problem, but then you have to go spend another 40-50 bucks...
Otherwise, absolutely no complaints about this unit, I have now had it in for over a month and it has been nothing but joy to use and makes the interior of my car much more functional. Just make sure to keep your eyes on the road, when i first got it, it was very distracting and hard to pay attention to the road. Turn down the brightness, it will help.
