    Review & Install Video

Hey, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com and this is my review of this rear seat delete kit for Fastback 2015 and '16 Mustangs in black. Now this is lightweight, which it's supposed to be, so as far as materials, this kit has a thin piece of ABS plastic here and here, but honestly that's exactly what I expected. You aren't putting in new rear seats here and these aren't made to be sat on. They're as lightweight as they possibly can be, which is good, and they give a really clean look. So as long as you aren't expecting something that a grown adult can sit on and you are expecting something simple, lightweight and clean, then you're on the same page as this product. So the cool thing about this kit is while you probably could gather some materials and make a form of this kit for yourself, buying this kit as a completed product takes all of the hassle out of your hands, especially if you don't have the tools, or know-how, or even the time to create this. The kit does cost just under 300 bucks, but after looking at this thing here and sticking around for the install, which I can touch upon in a minute, I think this is well worth the price. Going back to the install, while this is a simply constructed product, I did expect it to install properly and cleanly and with no issues. Just because the general idea and materials behind the seat delete are simple doesn't mean that they should install like junk, and I can tell you that it did install very nicely. Everything lined up well and it actually fits nicely, in my opinion. This is a one out of three wrenches on the scale, but the install can be a little bit time-consuming. You're looking at about two hours and most of the time is spent pulling out your stock seats, and the anchors, and the seat belts, things like that. The only other thing I can say about the fitment is that if this were mine, I'd probably run some double-sided Velcro in the corners on the bottom here and here. The only thing holding these pieces down are these pins in the middle here, so the sides are a little loose for me. Other than that, I really dig this kit. So overall, we have a rear seat delete that is as lightweight as possible, really has a good fit, and it matches the rest of the interior well, so you're looking at some nice end results. Check this thing out for yourself on the site, and I'm Stephanie and we'll see you next time at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Power-to-Weight Ratio. Go faster by ditching up to 30 pounds with a rear seat delete kit for your 2015-2019 S550 Mustang. One of the easiest ways to reduce ET's at the track is to drop unnecessary weight which will improve your Mustangs power-to-weight ratio. Getting rid of your rear seats is like getting "free" horsepower, just by simply reducing weight.

Two Seater Appeal. The Mustang Rear Seat Delete kit for your 2015-2019 V6, EcoBoost or GT coupe replaces your stock rear seats with a sleek, premium black carpeted finish. Tired of friends bumming rides? Now you have a real excuse! Cruise in style with the companion of your choice.

Adds Storage. The Rear Seat Delete Kit creates a storage space under the seat area where you can store aftermarket stereo equipment.

Bolt-In Install. Kit is easy bolt on with complete instructions, and does not require you to remove factory seat brackets or seat belts. If you have a roll-cage, the delete kit can be easily modified to fit.

Application. This black carpeted Rear Seat Delete Kit is designed to fit all 2015-2019 Mustang Fastbacks (coupes) including the V6, EcoBoost and GT models, does not fit convertibles.

?Does the rear seat delete kit retain the fold down ability for storage through the trunk?

    • It doesn't keep the traditional fold down, but the clips can be undone fairly quickly and you can have even more access to your trunk then you would with the stock fold down.

Would this support the weight of a large dog? I am looking to replace the rear seat so that my Malinois doesn't rip apart my back seat with his claws.

    • These are not meant for adults to sit on, as for dogs, I would be careful with anything over 65lbs as these are as lightweight as possible.

How thick is the material? I was wandering because I was planning on modifying it so I can install subs in it.

    • The Rear Seat Delete - Black will be very thin, it is designed to give a finished look while weighing as little as possible, for weight reduction purposes.

Will this kit work with a 2017 convertible? Also for a fast back would it be possible to put speakers and a sub on this kit? Or would weight be an issue ?

    • This Alterum Rear Seat Delete will not fit properly with a convertible. A few enthusiasts have used the seat delete to hold some audio equipment, however, this will deter the integrity of the panels.

      Over Priced

It looks really nice, however it's expensive for what you get. I know I'll replace the plastic push pins down the road. The 2 that go up top (where the rear part of the seats mount) bent just trying to push through and don't lock all the way for a secure mount. I see people talking about you can't place weight on it, of course you can't, it's not meant to be a seat. Again my only real complaint is cost. Maybe $100 to $150 should be accurate cost for this.

Good looking, but a few rough spots..

The product fits as expected... A few rough spots that prevent a 5* Pros: Deletes the back seat; clean looking interior; the extra padding truly works (sound deadening not really needed for an EcoBoost Mustang. Cons: Push-Pins on the bottom do not stay in place. Every time I step into the vehicle I push down on it to "click" into place; Little to no rigidity on the bottom half of this item. I will probably get some rubber foam block to secure it more. I went to wash my back window after I got it tinted and did not put pressure where the seats were. Instead I place my knee in the middle with the most support and still felt it bow. I will have to get a squeegee and long handle?!?! :-( All in all, I wish the material was more like the bottoms I took out that was not that heavy but had plenty of padding. It looks great though. I did put a light rubber mat on the bottom to keep my bags of groceries from sliding!

      Seat Delete Kit

Looks pretty nice and clean. It would’ve been nice if they provided a new cover for the seat belt opening. Seems to be able to handle heavier objects as long as you keep them near the center. It is a little loose around the edges on the bottom. Overall, keeps road noise out about as good as the rear seats did.

looks ok, not designed for any kind of weight. I had to add Styrofoam blocks under delete kit (bottom) to support my 40 lb dog!!!!!!

Exactly what I was looking for.

If you're looking to save weight by removing the rear seat but still want to give your Mustang a finished look, this is the kit for you. It is NOT a functional seat. It is lightweight and flimsy, but it is for looks. Buy it for that and you won't be disappointed.

Cheaply made for the price. Holding pins would not stay in. Had to go to hardware store and buy good ones. Very flimsy in the middle.

      Very nice product

Not sure after actually buying it if I would do it again. The kit itself is great and easy to install but for close to $300.00 I may have contemplated making my own. However no complaints, it is exactly as described. One thing I would recommend is buying a couple of sheets of Dynomat to deaden some of the road noise.

      Cleaner look, more spacious looking!

I love how clean it looks and a lot more room behind the seats. It is 20 lbs lighter than having the stock seats and I'm on a mission to reduce as much weight as possible, and this was a fun project. I took my time following the simple directions and it took me about a couple of hours. Now I have a great excuse not being able to have more than one passenger. LOL! So far I'm pleased with this product.

      Looks good, could be better

It looks really good. There are some minor issues that could be improved. I am not impressed with the way it secures (Velcro and a couple push clips). Every once in a while if I hit my brakes to hard the vertical piece that blocks access to the trunk just falls down. I will have to figure a way to secure it better. On a side note, it improves the sound from the factory sub in the trunk, but it does make my Flowmaster exhaust much louder in the cabin as well.

Rear Seat Delete - Fastback - Black (15-16 All)

The install went smoothly. No missing hardware. Excellent instructions. On the downside the material is very thin and not very substantial. OK for just covering the area where the back seat was removed in order to drop weight. Perhaps an optional version should be offered that uses much heavier materials so that the rear seat area could be used for carrying cargo of substantial weight.

Makes the interior feel opened up.

The rear seat delet kit fits perfect for starters. It looks amazing once installed. It took a buddy and me about an hour and a half to complete the instal. Mainly because I took out the rear seat belts. Which took a little finesse than it looked.

      Did the job

Ok I installed this delete in my car because I put a 6 point roll bar in the car and cannot run a rear seat. I got the delete opened it up all looked good at first glance but I was not to happy with the quality of the material of the carpet well actually it is felt not carpet at all I would have been more happy if it was actual carpet. The biggest issue I had was that strait out of the box the felt was falling off the plastic so before I could install I had to re glue most of the felt back on. The quality of the fitment was good cannot complain it fitseems flush with the carpet and fits good up top where the old back seat was. All and all I wish they used carpet instead of felt and would have been nice if they used a better glue.

      Great Quality, Poor instructions

Back seat looks like it came from the faftory after youre down, but it took me 4 hours to install because the instructions came with pictures in black and white and hard to see exactly what to do. Some steps aren't necessary, taking both panels and rear panel competely off while others aren't mentioned, taking the screw off closet to the door panel for the seat belt first or it will take forever to get it off last. I also wish it was 1 or 2 cm bigger in the sides. With that said, I give this product a 9/10.

      This is a Good Deal!

In order to appreciate this mod one needs to consider how useless the backseat in a '15 Mustang is. Having fabricated one for a Z-28 I had in college I was pleased to see this kit appear at American Muscle...and I got it on sale, it was delivered promptly, was properly packaged and was a pretty straight forward install. I had managed to get the instructions from Schrader ahead of time and had the decks cleared when it arrived...most of the effort involved is getting the stock stuff out. The finished appearance is excellent and matches the rest of the interior very well. Well worth the money and time.
