    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys. I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com, and welcome to my detailed review and install of the Black Rear Seat Delete Kit available for your 1994 to 2004 Mustang Coupe. This review is gonna cover my thoughts on why you might wanna upgrade or move to a Rear Seat Delete Kit, what this particular kit is gonna give you as far as materials and construction, and then, finally, we'll break down the install. And on the surface, you're not looking at anything too crazy here, gang, one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter with a little bit more detail later on. Plain and simple, this kit should appeal to the SN95 Coupe owners out there looking to shed a few pounds from their ride while achieving a slightly cleaner appearance in the process. Now, this thing is definitely gonna be for the owners out there who don't mind spending the extra dough on getting something that is ready to rock and roll right out of the box, as opposed to the owners out there who might have a little bit more free time on their hands, maybe make something custom on their own in order to save a few bucks. But either way, let's get a little further into this kit. But, again, this is the coupe-specific version here for the Rear Seat Delete Kit. Now, if you have a convertible, your rear seats, your mounting points, are a little bit different, so, therefore, you have another kit to choose from on the site. Make sure you check that out here at AM, of course. But let's get back to the one we have in this particular video. This is one of two different rear seat delete options on the site available for your '94 to '04 Mustang. It is the slightly nicer option, in my opinion as well, and, therefore, you are gonna be spending a little bit more for this one, in fact just north of the $200 price point. The more affordable option, again, it gets the job done, but it's not as nice, in my opinion. It's below the $200 price point, and it's only offered in charcoal. But either way, make sure to check out both options here at AM. Check out the reviews. Check out the customer-submitted images. It will certainly help you on your quest when it comes time to buying. Taking a closer look at the kit itself, you'll notice things are pretty simple here, which is the point, after all, when you're looking to shed some weight. How much weight to be exact? Well, right around 40 pounds is what you're looking at here when installing this kit, removing that back seat, depending on your material. That's made possible due to this three-sixteenths-inch plastic here, ABS plastic to be exact. It is wrapped in this very black, very durable pile carpet. It feels very nice, just handling it here in the shop, for being ABS plastic. Look, I'm not the smallest dude around, but I'm having a hard time kind of bending this thing here in the shop. It feels good. Listen, we all know the Mustang back seat is pretty much useless to begin with, even more so with this kit installed. That shouldn't come as any surprise to any of you guys watching this video. But things like a fully-filled nitrous bottle, I have heard in the review section, might bow this thing a little bit. I have a little trouble believing that, because this thing is pretty thick, but then, again, it is worth pointing out. Now, this is a three-piece design. As you can see here, guys, the back is all one piece, and then the bottom portion of the seat delete kit obviously broken off into two different pieces, and this is actually secured with a little bit of automotive grade Velcro in two spots. A customer review or two will point out that maybe upgrading the Velcro isn't the worst idea in the world, because this might not hold it as well as some of the other Velcro options you can find at your local home store, something like that. But either way, it definitely does the job. And another nice thing about this design is that you can easily lift this thing up. You'll find kind of like a little dead space under where the rear seat used to be, and you can use that as a storage area for a number of different things, cleaning supplies, tools, whatever. Switching gears, let's cover the installation with this Rear Seat Delete Kit very quickly. And as you might imagine, pretty basic stuff, so I'm sticking to one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter and about an hour or two from start to finish. Anybody should be able to knock this one out in the driveway or garage with ease. Removing the rear seats is obviously your first step here, guys. This can be done with some pretty basic hand tools. Getting the new seat delete kit in place in reverse order is even easier, and, again, you are looking at a combination of hardware and Velcro. All that stuff is, of course, included with the kit. Now, the actual manufacturer recommends you can leave the mounting brackets and seat belts in place if you want, but in the quest of shedding the most weight possible, you can obviously ditch those if you feel necessary. On the topic of installation, I will say that some of our customers have pointed out on using a Boom Mat or a Dynamat underneath the rear seat portion here. Because before, the factory seats would tend to block a lot of noise from the road or from your exhaust system. That will be a little more apparent now with the seat delete kit in place, so if this is something that might potentially bother you, just check out some of our Boom Mat options here on the site or pick up some Dynamat on your own time. Wrapping things up here with this particular kit, guys, I think it does a great job of shedding weight, about 40 pounds, again, and doing so in a nice fashion. You're getting solid materials, great carpet, and a great fit. Now, if you're the type of owner who is a do-it-yourselfer, yes, you could probably save yourself a few bucks, make something like this on your own. However, if you prefer the convenience factor, check out this kit. It's ready to go right out of the box, and it'll look good while doing so. So that is my review of the Black Rear Seat Delete Kit that you can find right here at americanmuscle.com.

Improves Power-to-Weight Ratio. Drop up to 37 pounds and move faster with a new Rear Seat Delete Kit for your 1994-2004 Coupe Mustang. One of the easiest ways to reduce ET's at the track is to drop unnecessary weight, which will improve your Mustang's power-to-weight ratio. Deleting your rear seats is like adding free horsepower, just by simply reducing weight.

Two Seater Appeal. The Mustang Rear Seat Delete Kit for your 1994-2004 SN95 or New Edge coupe replaces your factory rear seats and headrests with a sleek, premium black carpeted finish. Tired of friends bumming rides? Now you have a real excuse! Cruise in style with the companion of your choice.

Quality Construction. The lower two panels of this Rear Seat Delete are made from 3/16" thick black ABS plastic to absorb heavy weight and is finished off with a 1/8" thick upper panel. The kit is designed to easily support up to 50 lbs of weight without sagging or putting stress on the panel. Whether it be a bottle of nitrous, stereo speakers or taking your pup for a cruise, this rear seat delete won't break or crack under pressure.

Adds Storage. This Rear Seat Delete Kit creates a hidden storage space under the seat area, where you can easily keep aftermarket stereo equipment or valuables. This gives you some additional cargo space and can help keep things from moving around while cruising.

Bolt-In Install. Complete with detailed instructions, this Rear Seat Delete is a simple bolt-in that does not require you to remove factory seat brackets or seat belts. If you have a roll-cage, the delete kit can be easily modified to fit.

Application. This black carpeted Rear Seat Delete Kit is designed to fit all 1994-2004 Mustang Coupes, including the V6, GT, Bullitt, Mach 1 and Cobra models. Not compatible with convertibles.

Does it still allow you to fold down the seats for more space in the trunk

    znussie

    • This will bolt up from top to bottom meaning it can not simply be folded down. However, if you take out the few screws that hold the vertical portion of the rear seat delete you can remove that panel and have full access to the rear trunk area.

I know this is gonna sound bad but is there a way to strap a child in the rear seat with this kit?

    Joshua

    • As this product is intended to remove the rear seat and the padding which is intended to work in relation with the air bags, it would not be safe or legal to put a child in the rear of the vehicle with this seat delete kit installed.

What sort of modification is needed to retain the rear headrest? Also, can the rear portion be cut to facilitate the passage of roll bars mounted through the area, into the trunk? Is there a particular tool that is suited for cutting upright portion of the RSD? Thanks.

    KimK

    • The Alterum Rear Seat Delete is not designed to retain the rear headrest. Trimming of the seat delete may be required to allow fitment of the headrest. A hole saw can be used to make clearance for roll bars passing through the rear seat area.

Is it possible to reinstall the headrest with this delete (even if it takes a little modification)?

    Dan95V8

    • Sure, but it would require modification as it is not designed for such.

The last statement of the 'rear seat delete' information for compatible models states, "not for convertibles" My question is WHY? I have a 2000 convertible, in which never do I allow anyone other than my 10 year old Labrador 'Morgan' ride in the back seat. It seems to me the delete would allow a perfect way to more easily accommodate Morgan for entry and regress when driving to the beach, ten minutes away.

    MorgansDad

    • The convertible models rear seats were shaped and mounted a little differently than the coupe. This kit will not be a direct bolt on for the convertible model.

Are the back seat deletes split like a bench seat and is a person able sit on them?

    LITTLEBIT

    • The Rear Seat Delete - Coupe - Black (94-04 All) is designed to get rid of the use of the back seat completely. It is a simple bolt on construction that does not require the removal of the back seats. However this item is not going to be sturdy enough for someone to sit on, nor will it be safe.

      Looks nice

It looks very nice but of course it’s not a perfect fit the bottom 2 peaces dont quite fit all the way to the sides of the car there is a small gap but it’s very nice and seems to be the best choice for a rear seat delete if you plan on installing a 10# nitrous bottle you will have to do some reinforcement

Saved 40 pounds = FREE 6rwhp for my cobra

Install and fitment was easy. Saved 40 pounds since I had custom thick leather done few years ago. My current cobra now weighs 3095lbs with all weight reduction mods and now it's 6.2lbs per 1HP from 6.27lbs per 1HP. Your numbers can be less or more depending on how much FWHP you have. But nothing like picking up 6 more rwhp and look great doing. It.

      Looks great

Based on reviews of all sorts of RSD's, this seemed to be the highest quality. The carpet looks great. The plastic is a little flimsy, but it sounds like it's better than most RSD's at a decent price. The fit isn't perfect. The back fits great, but the bottom pieces could use more accurate cutting. A significant amount of modification would be required if want to reinstall the headrest. You can install this in minutes if you've already removed your rear seat. The back piece is held in with two bolts. The bottom pieces are secured to the back piece with Velcro. Nothing is holding them in place towards the front, so you can easily lift them and store something under them. However, holes are pre-drilled in them if you want to leverage stock mounting location for the rear seat. Bolts are not included for this part though. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and would recommend it.

After taking the rear seats out they're not nearly as heavy as everyone thinks they are. Overall it looks clean. Wish the top "headrest," piece could be re-installed for an even better fit and finish.

Best Rear Seat Delete Kit On The Market!

I've owned both style rear seat delete kits AM has to offer and I was not happy with the cheaper version, this rear seat delete kit was more expensive but it was exactly what i was looking for. Install was easy, fit was perfect, very good quality. For a more cleaner look I ended up using some industrial strength velcro instead of the supplied hardware for install and it turned out great stays right in place. If you are looking to delete your rear seats I recommed this kit! Thanks AM.

Fit nice in the mach. The product it self looks really good quality. That's what really sold me. I also bought the boom sound mat just 1 and 1 boom sound spray can to spray the little parts where the mat couldn't cover. Car inside is more quite then with the seats on. Really love it. Considering I have magnapacks cat back with off road h pipe so it quite it down a bit inside the car. Love the rear seat delete kit.
