- How to Install a RTR Grille on your 2015-2016 Mustang
Open Box from $25.00
Hey, guys. Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com and this is my review of the RTR upper and lower grille for the 2015 to '16 Mustang. This is the exact same upper and lower grille that comes OE on the RTR Mustang, so if you really dig that look, then this combo could be for you. And even if you're not too familiar with the RTR Mustang, but you're looking for something to upgrade the front grille and have a different, more of an aftermarket aggressive look as opposed to that stock look, then you might want to check these out. This grille does keep the general idea of that stock three window design, but it does it with a twist that squares off your middle portion more here and accentuates the sides a little bit more than the factory design. It does still keep the honeycomb design, but it's tighter than the stock honeycomb, and I think it generally looks better. This upper grille does eliminate that pony, though, which ends up helping to give a more race inspired appearance that RTR is known for. This is offered as a combo kit, both upper and lower grilles, for just under $450. Or you can buy the upper and lower separate if you don't want to spring for the combo. You're looking at just under $250 for the upper grille alone or about $200 for the lower grille. The install for these grilles is easy, a one out of three wrenches on the scale, but the time for the install's obviously going to change depending on if you're installing both upper and lower grilles or just one or the other. I'd say about two hours to complete both since both grilles are complete replacements. And you won't need anything special to complete the install, but you will be popping off that front fascia, so a jack and some stands might be nice just to elevate the car some.Getting the top factory grille out isn't as hard as you might think it is. There's a soft gasket that comes out with a little help from a screwdriver, and then you can remove the plastic clips that are along the edge. You can just the manipulate the tabs so you can pull the grille out, but be a little careful so you don't break anything. The new grille installs the same way that the factory grille came out. It just snaps into place in the bumper cover, and then the center bumper soft gasket goes right back in after the new grille. After that, it's just a matter of getting the front bumper back on the car the same way you took it off. After seeing these installed here on our own S550, I can tell you that the fit and finish is very much OEM-like. The grilles are lightweight but fit great and seem to be nicely done and sturdy. Wrapping things up here, the RTR upper and lower grilles add a little twist to the factory front grille to give the look that RTR is known for, a modern, aggressive race-inspired appearance. The grilles are complete replacements, and they fit great and even allow a little more air flow to the rad than the factory grilles do. You can check these grilles out more online for yourself. And for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

I decided that I would get the upper and lower grilles as a retirement present to myself, and I'm glad I did. These grilles look awesome. I did get a wire mesh gutter guard to fill in the open areas to give a more finished look. It took an afternoon to cut them up and fashion them in such a way to be able to attach them to the backside of the grilles. The actual install of the grilles was 2 hours and 45 minutes by myself. I highly recommend watching the YouTube video about removing the bumper for '15-'17 Mustangs. The plastic material is not flimsy; it is very rigid. The fit was perfect. I highly recommend these grilles.Helpful (1)

Looks clean, no complaints
Had a grill delete and honestly didn’t like the look of it. Made the front end look unfinished and sloppy, not to mention fielding all of the questions like “what happened to your grill, where is it?”. So I decided to go this route with the RTR upper and it is much nicer than stock or a delete. Looks clean, no complaints. Install is easy but tricky if you’re solo and somewhat time consuming as well. Complete front fascia and bumper needs to be removed which requires finesse in certain areas that utilize plastic clips particularly where the bumper fastens to the fender. If you break them then you are definitely looking for a paddle in the creek we’ve all been in. There is some good YouTube on removal that should help make it easier. Take your time, good luck.Helpful (1)

Pass on this grille
I can't recommend this Grille at all. From a far it looks alright but when you get close you can see it's cheaply made and the areas on either side of the main grille are open and bare. The car looks like it's missing pieces. Now I am trying to find a solution to that problem. The material in the main grille is extremely flimsy and just looks cheap when you look at it. If it wasn't such a hassle to install I would order new grilles and sell these at a loss.Helpful (4)

Will this grill work with the ecoboost active grill shutters? Or will those have to be removed as well?
This grille will work with the EcoBoost active grille shutters.
Do I have to remove the bumper if I am installing only the upper grille?
Yes, you will need to remove the bumper. Take a look at the install guide for more information/to see what you will get yourself into: http://www.americanmuscle.com/rtr-grille-1516-manu-install.html
Will this grill with LEDs fit into european models? (ecoboost 2015). Thanks.
This grille along with the LED lights was designed on a US spec Mustang. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee fitment on a Euro spec Mustang since there may be some differences in wiring.
Will the RTR Grille fit a 2017 GT Premium?
Yes the RTR Grille will be able to fit on a 2017 GT Premium. However if your Mustang is equipped with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), that feature will not work properly if you install the RTR lower grille on your car
is it possible to have the RTR logo, I already have the grill but I would like to put their logo on the front grill. if there was a way please tell me how! thanks.
I am sorry but we do have the RTR emblem separately. The RTR emblem is only available for the special edition RTR Mustangs.
Yes - there is a write up at the mustang6g forums by user suckerv that tells you how he did it. Apparently the factory stallion has 4 threaded bolts on the back. You can affix the pony with some double sided 3M tape and 4-40 nuts.
I ordered the kit for my Ecoboost with the ACC and it didn't work (Lower grill) the website doesn't state it @AMERICANMUSCLE.COM so I lost 200 bucks.
Yes it'll be fit. You can buy only the lights if u already have the grille.
This is designed to work with the factory fascia only.
From my understanding, the 15-17 RTR grille will not fit the 2018 Mustang due to the changes made to the front end. With that being said, we do offer an upgraded RTR grille for the 2018-2019 Mustang models which can be found here: https://www.americanmuscle.com/rtr-grille-w-led-accent-vent-lights-2018-gt-ecoboost.html.
Thank you for your question! Drilling will not be required during the installation as this grille will be a direct replacement for the factory grille.
Yes, this grille is going to be black in color.
The RTR Grille is not compatible with Mustangs equipped with the Adaptive Cruise Control.
