    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

Hi I’m Justin from AmericanMuscle.com and today I’m taking a closer look at these smoked OE style headlights for all 05-09 Mustangs. The title pretty much sums this one up, these lights are going to be very similar to your factory headlights in just about every way, and are going to be built to the same specs as your factory S197 headlights as well, with one obvious exception, that dark smoked appearance. That dark smoked appearance is made possible by pairing a black housing with a dark smoked lens for a look that’s going to be extremely aggressive. You can even crank up the styling by adding some smoked fog lights, or even a set of smoked turn signals, like we have installed on our 06 GT behind me. Included with these headlights are dual element H13 bulbs, however, due to the dark smoked nature of these lights, it might not be a bad idea to upgrade to a quality bulb from Raxiom, just to ensure you’re getting the best nighttime visibility. Any headlight installation in these S197s does require the removal of the front bumper cover, which will stretch the install time to about an hour using some basic hand tools. However, since there’s no additional wiring, or modification needed, getting these lights bolted up should be very straightforward. So if you’re looking for a set of clean, OE style replacement lights, and you’re a big fan of that dark aggressive styling, then be sure to check out a set of these smoked OE style headlights today right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Aggressive Styling. Give your S197 Mustang a more aggressive look with a set of Smoked OE Style Headlights. These Axial OE Style Headlights feature the same styling cues as the original headlights found on the 05-09 Mustangs, but with dark smoked lens covers for a more menacing appearance.

Improves Visibility. Now you can improve your night visibility just by replacing your old weathered and worn out stock headlights with a brand new set of headlights from Axial.

Application. This set of two Axial Smoked OE Style Headlights are designed as a perfect fit replacement on the 2005 to 2009 Mustangs, including the V6, GT, and Bullitt models.

Bulb application. These Headlights use dual element H13 bulbs for high/low beams. Axial recommends high quality H13 replacement bulbs.

Does Axial offer a smoked fog light to match these headlights? I cannot find factory smoked fogs ANYWHERE!!!

    • We would not carry smoked OE style fog lights however, we do have smoked tint for the factory fog lights to get the smoked look. https://www.americanmuscle.com/smoked-foglight-tint-0512.html

Inside the headlight is a black circular piece of metal that covers the front of the headlight bulb and blocks some of the light coming from the bulb what is this black covers purpose, my stock light assemblies don't have this cover.

    Madmax

    • That is meant to reflect the light back and into the mirrored reflectors at the back of the light.

Aftermarket HID kit compatibility? Would I be able to install an aftermarket HID kit, 6000K h13 bulbs to be exact, from a company like Absolute or Xenon with these headlights? Thanks.

    Huskerdude

    • You most certainly would :) these are exactly the same as your currents headlights just smoked. So as long as the H.I.D kit u get is compatible with stock oem ford headlight lens assemblies. For the mustang. U should be fine. Hid kits are pretty simple:). I currently have H.I.Ds and they are harder to install on 99-04 stangs and ur model is super easy.(plenty of room of the ballasts).

stock hid's Hi I was looking into getting the smoked oe style head lights for my 08 gt and I was looking to find out if they will work with a factory hid kit. If they do not do u know of any other smoked lights that will work. Thanks for your time and any help u can be.

    • Unfortunately none of our aftermarket lights work with the Ford factory HIDs. The HIDs mount inside the lights slightly differently than regular bulbs, so they physically won't mount inside the lights.

      Great Headlights!

i first bought the smoked raxiom projector style lights and the drivers side burnt to a crisp. am exchanged them for these and gave me $100 or so store credit. the lights look and fit great but the visibility is average at best even with the upgraded bulbs but they are still way brighter than the raxiom. since this was my second time installing headlights it took just under and hour but the first install took me a day. ty am for the best darn customer service out there! you dominate the competition!

      Stealth looks!

Great addition to really give a stealthy look. The brighter bulbs are definitely needed at night, but you still get adequate lighting.

      Finish Comes Off

I've had these on my car for about two years. I absolutely love the look of them and have been very happy with them up until the finish started to come off. I have always taken care to wash them gently, but the finish on one of my lights is someone off. I am debating if I should repurchase these or get a pair of raxiom headlights.

      Illegal in Texas

Nice lights and I love them, but they are illegal in Texas. I had to take them out to pass inspection. I specifically asked the customer service rep if they were street legal and he said yes. The product itself is great but they are pretty dark. I'm running 4300K HID's and they still aren't super bright.

      Smoked OE headlights

Great lights replaced my old smoked OEM with these. Fit perfectly and still use stock bulbs. You will need to upgrade to HID or LED as stock bulbs are still to dim.

      Completed the look I wanted

Great look and didn't dim the oem headlights like I read about but I did replace anyway to match my halo fogs with r axiom led. Would be 5 stars but there is a swirling look to the tint that you can see w the lights on. I and my wife immediately tried wiping it off thinking there was something on them but it is inside. I can live with it though because they do complete the look I wanted.

Know Your Local Vehicle Inspection Laws - Not Legal in NC

My Mustang GT failed NC vehicle inspection today due to the headlights. I had mistakenly thought the headlights were 50 state legal. Per AmericanMuscle: "these headlights will be at the purchasers digression [sic] to purchase. We do not have an 50 state legal claim on this product." Make sure you know what is legal BEFORE you buy. Obviously I have no bang for my buck, and according to the State of NC visibility is "dangerous", hence the ratings. But they did look great!

      Definitely less light output

During the the daytime they look amazing. They obviously fit well and are easy to install. The light output is very reduced though. I have led’s, I don’t think you’d be able to see anything with the stock lights. I uploaded a picture that shows my original lows, then the tinted lows, and lastly tinted highs. The tinted brights were still darker than the original lows. I didn’t see any other picture showing an example for light output so hopefully it helps someone. I’ll be looking into getting some fog lights to get a little more light on the road.

These fit well and look great! Problem though. I just failed Virginia state inspection and these lenses were the cause. They are according to the inspector not legal in Virginia. Disappointed is an understatement.
