Review & Install Video

Okay guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com and this is my review of the MMD by FOOSE Rear Valance Diffuser for 2013 and '14 GT and V6 Mustangs. All right. So first of all, this is an MMD by FOOSE part, so it's actually designed by Chip Foose himself, just like the other MMD by FOOSE items are. With that being said, this rear valance diffuser takes after the other MMD by FOOSE parts, and the sense that once it's installed, it really just looks like it belongs on the car. And we are gonna install this for you guys on our GT here today, so you can see what it looks like and how it goes on, but I'll come back to that. Looking at it right here, I can see that it's different, but I don't think it's over the top. And I'd classify it as tasteful. It's more aggressive than the ROUSH valance, in my opinion, but it still works with the lines of the car, so it doesn't look out of place. So this is made from an OEM quality ABS plastic, which not only makes it look like an OEM part, but it's also intended to offer more durability and a longer lifespan than other materials. And it does have a factory style grainy texture that you can see right here. When we go to install it, you will notice that there's already 3M tape pre-installed in the back just to help make for an easier install. And we also have some support tabs here, and when we do the install, we'll show you more about those. This diffuser is also going to come with a pushpin retainer and alcohol prep pad, just to help get the surface as clean as possible, and some adhesion promoter too, so you'll have everything that you need for the install when it comes time. This rear diffuser is gonna run you right around the $200 mark, which is going to be slightly more expensive than the ROUSH rear valance out there, which is your other option. And this is designed to work with the stock rear bumper. So if you have a Shelby or a GT 500 rear bumper, this piece is not going to work. When it comes to the install, luckily, it's pretty straightforward. You're gonna need a drill for the little bit of drilling that you've have to do, but it's really nothing complicated at all. The drill is the only extra thing that you'll need since the diffuser comes with the alcohol prep pad and adhesion promoter, and the 3M tape is already on the back of the diffuser. The first thing you're gonna wanna do is make sure the bumper where you'll be installing the diffuser is as clean as possible. So that's where you're gonna use the alcohol prep pads for. After that, you'll need to prep the valance itself with the alcohol wipe and put your support tabs on. The tabs are gonna go in the notched out area right here above the exhaust tips. Next, you'll wanna use the adhesion promoter. You want the adhesion promoter anywhere that the diffuser is going to make contact with the bumper. But just as a side note, be careful with the adhesion promoter because it will leave a visible residue if you get it anywhere else other than your tape bonding area. After that, you're ready to get this thing on the car, and you want to start by pressing from the center of the bumper outwards. The last step will be drilling the holes through the diffuser and the bumper cover for the pushpins, but you're going to help make sure this thing doesn't go anywhere. And the diffuser already has holes, so you know where you'll be drilling. Overall, you're probably looking at an hour or two tops, and a one out of three wrenches on the scale. All right. So wrapping things up here, the MMD by FOOSE Rear Diffuser is a subtle way to make things a little different for your 'Stang. It doesn't require any cutting, only a few drill holes, and it's made from black ABS plastic, so it fits in with a factory-like look. So if this is something that you like the looks of, feel free to check it out more online for yourself. I'm Stephanie and for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

What comes in the box? I have a 2017 GT was wondering if you have to buy 2 sets of these or does the pair come in one box for $60

JoshR

  • The SpeedForm Smoked Tail Light Covers for the 15-17 Mustang will come as a pair. You will only need to purchase a quantity of one to receive the pair.

Do you think it would still look good to do just the tail lights and not the headlights? Dont want to cut down my visibility.

TylerP

  • When it comes to visibility reasons, I like to only install smoked covers on the tail lights as placing smoked covers on the headlights can cause visibility issues. The tail light covers for the S550 look great as they will uniform the tail lights with the blackout decklid panel.

Is the velcro visible through the covers? Seems like when the lights are on it would be noticeable

Will water get stuck inside when washing your car ?

TylerP

  • The SpeedForm Smoked Tail Light Covers can leave water trapped behind the cover. The water will dry up shortly with warm weather or with the air jets at most car washes.

    Would not recommend

I am disappointed with this product for a few reasons. The covers are held on by Velcro. You stick the adhesive side to your lights and then slide the covers on. No matter what you do, it seems like they fit loosely. However, it does do the job. Now to the bad part. The covers, although precut, do not cover the edges of the lights all the way, so you will see some red. After a couple of months, I took them off to have a shop actually tint them for me because the cheap look of this product was bugging me. When I took them off, I found that the covers had scratched the edges of my tail lights (the crest along the middle) where they had been rubbing against them. Not happy. Also, removing the adhesive from the tail lights was a serious pain. It took about an hour and a half to finally get the residue off. Use Goof Gone if you're going to do this. DO NOT use a razor to try and scrape it off. Overall, I am very unsatisfied with the product. Cheap look and WILL SCUFF/SCRATCH your lights!

    Great Product

I bought these tail light covers to give my mustang an aggressive look and I truly think they have done the job. I also love that it is possible to take them off. My only complaint is that some of them did not fit as well as others, my far right tail light has a little of the original red light visible. But overall this is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to give their mustang a blacked out aggressive look.

    Requires modification for "Seamless Fitment"

Must be trimmed to fit correctly, the shape out of the box is all wrong. Doesnt cover the light completely at the tops, and some are not shaped correctly which makes the angles wrong and not line up. Requires Modification to fit correctly....

    Nice low cost appearance upgrade

Like others said, a little tough to put on. One of the 6 was not a perfect fit and a little tail light shows but it is very minor.

    Easy and practical

Not a whole lot to say, in very satisfied. They look nice and fitment is about a 9.5 out of 10 not quite perfect but totally fine I'm just picky only thing I think is the Velcro is a bit silly and kind of a pain but stick the Velcro on the light then put the cover on don't try to peel the backing and stick it on while it's on the cover it just won't happen. But they fit and look great!

I followed the instructions carefully, but those covers (at least some of them) don't fit well to cover the lights 100. I can always see the original lights at the edges (bright lines). Re-adjusting has also failed. I am about to remove them.

    Taillight covers

Great product, easy quick installation. Really gives your mustang a mean aggressive look to it, but does not dim your lights too much.

    Only Way To Go!

These taillight covers are one of the best purchases I've made for my S550! Super easy to install, only took around 10 minutes to install. They let light through easily at night so being stopped for tinted lights shouldn't be an issue on the streets! That being said they look glossy black to match the deckled during the day! Would recommend 10/10!

BETTER than vinyl decal tint by far

These fit better than the decal method and are stronger and durable. These covers let your brake lights shine thru this dark tint. To install them snug on your tail lights first separate the pair of Velcro tapes provided on each new cover, this way you can accurately place a tape by hand on the lens you want to cover first. Make sure they align with the tapes on the new covers when you place them. If you do this first then all you have to do is press them snug over your tail lens. You can pull them off and realign if need be. If you mess up simply go purchase more Velcro at the store and try again.

    Awesome product

Great product but unfortunately they don't fit the 50th anniversary tail lights even though it says fits all 15-17 mustangs and they don't sell ones that do fit the 50th anniversary. I tried to put them on but no luck it just hits the chrome.

    Look great, annoying to install/align

I think these were a pain to put on. Because they are not pliable you can't easily only pull the backing off one adhesive side and then the other while aligning. I pulled it off both at once but then the pliability becomes an issue again as both sides want to stick at once. On one piece this caused the adhesive to smear/spread on the light(inside section). Aside from that, all pieces lined up well except for two, so there is a sliver of red from the stock lights showing at the top. I gave them a few hours for the adhesive to set but trying to re-adjust those pieces caused the velcro to separate from the pieces, I had to separate the velcro and then re-attach. I would say it is not likely that you will easily be able to remove/adjust these without the same issue.

Look Great. Do not follow AM install instructions!

As some other reviews have noted, do not follow the AM install instructions. Here's how I installed my set. 1) Remove velcro piece from cover that will stick on the light itself. 2) Remove tape backing from velcro piece that is now in your hand. 3) Slide cover onto tail light. With a headlamp or flashlight, note where the tape should be placed. 4) Remove the cover and place the tape. 5) Look at the cover and note the relation between the first piece and the backside piece. 6) Estimate the location and place your second piece of tape. 7) Put on the tail light cover and you're done! Most of my covers fit perfectly fine although they take some force to seat correctly. There is a very slight bit of red showing on one or two of my pieces but it is hardly noticeable. The others fit perfectly.
