Review & Install Video
Okay guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com and this is my review of the MMD by FOOSE Rear Valance Diffuser for 2013 and '14 GT and V6 Mustangs. All right. So first of all, this is an MMD by FOOSE part, so it's actually designed by Chip Foose himself, just like the other MMD by FOOSE items are.
With that being said, this rear valance diffuser takes after the other MMD by FOOSE parts, and the sense that once it's installed, it really just looks like it belongs on the car. And we are gonna install this for you guys on our GT here today, so you can see what it looks like and how it goes on, but I'll come back to that.
Looking at it right here, I can see that it's different, but I don't think it's over the top. And I'd classify it as tasteful. It's more aggressive than the ROUSH valance, in my opinion, but it still works with the lines of the car, so it doesn't look out of place.
So this is made from an OEM quality ABS plastic, which not only makes it look like an OEM part, but it's also intended to offer more durability and a longer lifespan than other materials. And it does have a factory style grainy texture that you can see right here. When we go to install it, you will notice that there's already 3M tape pre-installed in the back just to help make for an easier install. And we also have some support tabs here, and when we do the install, we'll show you more about those. This diffuser is also going to come with a pushpin retainer and alcohol prep pad, just to help get the surface as clean as possible, and some adhesion promoter too, so you'll have everything that you need for the install when it comes time.
This rear diffuser is gonna run you right around the $200 mark, which is going to be slightly more expensive than the ROUSH rear valance out there, which is your other option. And this is designed to work with the stock rear bumper. So if you have a Shelby or a GT 500 rear bumper, this piece is not going to work.
When it comes to the install, luckily, it's pretty straightforward. You're gonna need a drill for the little bit of drilling that you've have to do, but it's really nothing complicated at all. The drill is the only extra thing that you'll need since the diffuser comes with the alcohol prep pad and adhesion promoter, and the 3M tape is already on the back of the diffuser.
The first thing you're gonna wanna do is make sure the bumper where you'll be installing the diffuser is as clean as possible. So that's where you're gonna use the alcohol prep pads for. After that, you'll need to prep the valance itself with the alcohol wipe and put your support tabs on. The tabs are gonna go in the notched out area right here above the exhaust tips.
Next, you'll wanna use the adhesion promoter. You want the adhesion promoter anywhere that the diffuser is going to make contact with the bumper. But just as a side note, be careful with the adhesion promoter because it will leave a visible residue if you get it anywhere else other than your tape bonding area.
After that, you're ready to get this thing on the car, and you want to start by pressing from the center of the bumper outwards. The last step will be drilling the holes through the diffuser and the bumper cover for the pushpins, but you're going to help make sure this thing doesn't go anywhere. And the diffuser already has holes, so you know where you'll be drilling. Overall, you're probably looking at an hour or two tops, and a one out of three wrenches on the scale.
All right. So wrapping things up here, the MMD by FOOSE Rear Diffuser is a subtle way to make things a little different for your 'Stang. It doesn't require any cutting, only a few drill holes, and it's made from black ABS plastic, so it fits in with a factory-like look. So if this is something that you like the looks of, feel free to check it out more online for yourself.
I'm Stephanie and for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.
