- How to Install a MMD Deck Lid Panel on your 2005-2009 Mustang
Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at a retro appearance item from MMD in the form of this rear deck lid panel fitting all 05-09 Mustangs. MMD is a company that makes a number of different appearance parts ranging from retro to modern all with the one goal of setting your Mustang apart from the others. This is a part I am personally very familiar with having used it on both our 05-09 bolt on build up cars. You can see we chose this part because it adds a lot of style to an otherwise boring area, it’s no secret that this particular panel from MMD is heavily inspired by the early 70’s Mach 1’s, which did share a very similar look. As for the panel itself, it is made from a high impact ABS plastic, and then finished off in a very sleek matte black color. The panel just like those early 70’s Mach 1’s, does feature a perfect cutout in the middle, to feature that factory emblem, located on the rear deck lid. The other nice thing about this panel is that it installs easily without the use of any drilling or permanent modification, simply clean the area on your rear deck lid first using the supplied alcohol prep pads, remove the protective backing on the preinstalled 3M tape, and then adhere the panel carefully to your ride, getting everything in place should only take you about 30 minutes from start to finish. So if you’re looking to introduce a little of that retro Mach 1 styling on your S197, then be sure to check out this rear deck lid panel from MMD available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Looks very good from 5 ft away. I'm a perfectionist, I see the slight misalignment, but most people won't.Helpful (0)

Gloss or matte??
It comes in a matte black color.
I got this a few years back, looks great and I'm super happy with it. Recently while washing the car I noticed it starting to peel off a bit. So I heated it up and removed it completely. I want to put it back on but I'm not sure what adhesive came with it. I believe it's 3M double sided but they have a lot of different kinds and I don't want to damage the car. Does anyone know the exact type of adhesive that originally came with it?
The exact type of 3M tape that came with this decklid panel is the regular automotive grade 3M tape.
will the MMD rear diffuser come back? :(
Is this panel flat black when it comes
The panel is flat black.
I put mine on slightly crooked and am scared if I can remove it or not? I did this a pretty long time ago, I didn't figure out how to ask this on my phone till now. So I put it on slightly crooked. (Literally it's like 1/50th of an inch higher on one side. I tried pulling it off but it's pretty tuff and I don't want to rip paint off/ damage my decklid. It's hardly noticible until you are like a foot away, but I want that matte black light trim and feel like that will mess the lines up to much than and it will look bad.
you can take it off but strong possibility your gonna ruin it,the stickey side that holds it in place.either way if your gonna try take it to a custom shop
Yes. We purchased both at the same time. They fit very well together, looks factory to me once done.
Yes. as shown in the picture and on the American Muscle Mustang web. page for this item there are more pictures so that you can see how this part looks.
Yes they can be painted.
Not directly unfortunately. The MMD Trunk Emblem Surround is only compatible with the Magnetic Decklid Panel as a direct fit, as all others are too thick and will not allow the emblem to sit flat unless trimmed to fit. Hope this helps!
I am using it with the "Black tail light trim (Item # 52001)" and it fits perfectly. Thought I would put this in case you were on the fence about buying the other style.
I have a Mustang Bullitt 2009 and i fitted this panel all by myself, so from a Bullitt owner to another this MMD Deck Lid Panel fits perfectly!!
