Review & Install Video
Hey, guys, Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a detailed overview and installation of the SR Performance IRS Tie Down Kits, available for all 2015 and newer Fastback Mustangs. So, in this video, I'll be going over the functionality and benefits to your suspension and handling performance you can expect from the IRS Tie Down Kit from SR Performance, as well as all the materials and construction. I'll top the video off with the installation which I'll let you know upfront is actually going to get a very simple one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. The SR Performance IRS Tie Down Kit will be for any 2015 or newer Fastback Mustang owner who might be looking to almost completely eliminate the annoying wheel hop that comes along with an IRS built S550. Now, doing so will overall improve your suspension and handling capabilities, especially under the rapid acceleration. So, if you're the lucky owner of a 2015 or newer Fastback Mustang, I'm sure you've noticed your independent rear suspension that comes from the factory on the S550s, is definitely well-equipped to handle tight curves and quick turns with ease. Now, it is also something that comes along with some ugly wheel hop that I'm sure you've also noticed in the process that definitely affects your suspension and handling performance. In my opinion, that definitely needs to be addressed and SR Performance has a product right here, the IRS Tie Down Kit that does just that. Now, the IRS Tie Down Kit includes everything you see here on the table with me today from SR Performance, everything that's used for your suspension to reduce and almost completely eliminate bushing and cradle deflection, the two main ingredients in wheel hop. Now, by doing so, not only are you getting better launches off the rip, but you're also getting better traction at your rear end, great for the street, and also even better for the track. One of the good things about the SR Performance kit we have here in addition to it stabilizing bushing and cradle deflection is the fact that it has little to no increase of NBH or noise, vibration, and harshness, making this perfect for all street performance and race applications. As far as materials and construction goes, this was manufactured out of a mid-welded heavy duty square tubular steel perfect for strength and rigidity, which is great for a suspension handling part. On top of that, it's got a very nice black powder coated finish, something perfect for corrosion resistance and good looks, of course, but after all, it is under the car and it's not really an appearance part. Now, the price tag, in my personal opinion, comes in at a pretty budget-friendly price, and after all, I do think, in my opinion, again, it is very, very worth it. Now, adding the IRS Tie Down Kit, again, almost eliminates the wheel hop which is great for both street and track, so there's really the best of both worlds here, and you can pick this particular kit and everything you see here for just about 200 bucks. Again, it has a very, very worthwhile effect almost eliminating that wheel hop, something that can greatly improve your driving experience even if it's just the daily driver. As far as the installation goes, we'll talk about that for a quick second here. This is something that you can get done in a pretty short amount of time, some guys even claim to have it done in under an hour, but I'd say about an hour or so at the absolute maximum. As far as hand tools are concerned, a ratchet and socket set or a 13 and 21-millimeter wrench, a pry bar, jack and jack stands, or if you have a lift, that's even better. Overall, I would definitely say this is something that gets a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. First thing you obviously wanna do is get the car in the air and support it at the pinch weld with jack stands and support it under the rear cradle as well. Now, from here you wanna loosen up the front and rear cradle bolts and completely remove the front options just to slide the isolator into place.Once the upper isolator is in place, the lower isolator and tie down brackets are next. This is something that is side specific, so keep that in mind going forward. Once those are into place, you can loosely install the factory bolts back into the cradle. Next you can root the rear bolts and then install the shorter and thinner isolators into place as well as the tie down brackets. From there, tighten everything down to spec which will be torqued at 130 foot-pounds for the larger bolts and 40 foot-pounds for the smaller ones. Overall, about an hour's worth of time in your driveway at home and it will get a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter.Just to quickly wrap things up here, if you are the owner of a 2015 or newer Fastback Mustang, you might be looking for a way to reduce or almost eliminate wheel hop on your IRS equipped S550. Now, if that sounds like you and you're on a budget, you might wanna check out the SR Performance IRS Tie Down Kit, which is available right here at americanmuscle.com.
