Improves Handling. Reinforce your rear strut towers and improve your Mustang's handling with a Steeda rear shock tower brace. By adding a rear shock tower brace, you'll reinforce your Mustang's chassis and improve traction for better, faster, crisper handling.

Made to Perform. Like all of Steeda's products, this shock tower brace is made to the highest standards to guarantee performance. Constructed of 4130 chromoly steel and finished with a durable zinc plate, this brace gives your trunk area a no-nonsense look.

Perfect with Coilovers. If you're adding coilovers, high performance shocks, or an IRS rear to your Pony, a shock tower brace will help you get the most from your new suspension.

Application. This brace is designed to fit all 79-04 Mustangs including V6, GT, Cobra, Mach 1, and Bullitt models. Note that some modifications may be required for installation.

Technical Notes. Some modifications and welding may be required for installation. 1979-1993 hatch back will require light trimming of factory inner quarter panel sight plugs over rear shocks. All other models will require trimming of factory inner trunk liner.

Will this rear shock brace make a difference to me? I own a 2000 GT 4.6 convertible; I have already installed a front tower brace, an Eibach roll bar kit and new shocks. These have made a big differencein regard to handling...both strauight line and in cornering. Is the addition of the rear tower brace a bit of overkill or will I feel a difference in handling so that the cost/install is worth the effort?

  • It is not overkill if you are a driver that pushes a car to the limit. Especially since you have a convertible, the body has a lot of flex. Since you have tightened up the front you have put more strain on the rear. A tower bar on the rear is really a good thing to balance out the suspension.

Will it fit my 88 gt convertible has glass back window, worried if the window will hit?

Do these fit neatly behind the carpet in a convertible? I have a 96 convertible and was wondering if this would fit completely behind the stock partition or if trimming carpet is unavoidable

  • No they do not. You have to cut openings in the side pannals. Its a pain and looks bad if you ever take it out.

Will if fit with mach 1000 audio system? I have an 03 gt with the "fancy" audio system that ford installed and the amp tray runs across the trunk in what looks like the same position. Will this part fit and would it even make a difference as the trays already there?

  • If the speakers are located basically right on top of the wheel hubs, than you will have to do some measurements and research to see if you can make the modifications to make the Steeda Rear Shock Tower Brace (79-04 All) work. Otherwise, it looks as if you would have to choose one over the other.

    Easy install with good results

    I purchased this for my 2003 Cobra. Install time was around 1-1.5 hours. It required some cutting of the interior carpet material but with some measuring and thinking, the cut out portion looks well done and the bar looks almost stock. The rear end of the vehicle does seem more stable and stiff with this installed. The price was reasonable and combined with free shipping was hard to pass up. I recommend this and would purchase another one should I buy another car in the future.

    Steeda strut bar

    This is a great product. You have to cut some of the plastic carpet back on the convertible. The one that mounts on the sides and the 2 bars in the middle that go for the backing carpet plate. It's all plastic don't worry. If you need up just cover it with some else rubber carpet cover from the part store. I felt an immediate difference on the convertible. The back end feels tons better. I did not weld in the bar just bolted it done. The difference is night and day. I have one small 8inch subwoofer box so it does not interfere with the way the box sits in the trunk.

    It's nice looking but

    It's nice looking and well made but lower plate does not sit flush. I have about 1/4 inch gap on both ends. I can't tell if this brace has made handling improvement for tightened rear end or not since it's holding two ends of the shock bolt together only at this time. Still it's nice piece to look at when you open your trunk.

    2002 turbo gt

    I had to ream the holes for it to fit but once it was on i still had a gap on the sides so i only welded the top. (For side trim cuts) measure about 9 3/4 to about 10 off the back seat mark with tape. While panel is still in car this will give you center of strut.. Now measure up 3 1/2 up from floor of trunk mark with tape. Cut up to 3 1/2 then make a relief cut at the top of that, then cut and a few inches down for a perfect fit

    Proper Install for your rear brace

    This bar definitely tightened up the back end of my car but you absolutely have to weld it in to get the true desired result. Had to grind the towers to fresh metal- remove some body caulk and then jack body up off of shocks so as to not burn the lower poly shock bushings then weld up. Primed areas that were ground and welded and re-caulked the shock towers to prevent leaks. Baby is seriously stiff back there now and hooks sweet. Good luck with your install-- It took me about two hours total to complete.

    significant increase in handling.

    i replaced my rear control arms two weeks prior with bushings This part completes the package Finally found some energy suspension buhings that can replace the old rubber on the inside of the trunk where this product goes Chromoly seems light and strong I drove it around and like any other part it had to be broken in and then sit properly without gaps between shock towers I recommend this product

    Does what it's supposed to.

    I already have a good amount of suspension work, but I found that my Eibach rear sway-bar just kept coming loose at the bushings (even using threadlock). Once I bolted this on I noticed a moderate improvement in rear-end action and i don't have to tighten the bolts on my sway-bar every 5 days anymore.

    had to modify to fit

    The holes for the rear shocks didn't line up with the shocks when I centered it so they had to be widened, and there was a quarter inch gap on both sides where it should be touching the shock towers. Build quality is great though.

    An excellent addition to improving the rear suspension dynamics

    As our mustangs (especially older ones) are known for loose rears this brace noticeably tightened up the rear flex from the top. It was high on my list when modifying the rear suspension which already included springs, struts, control arms and bushings (all but the springs were original from 97'!!). Worth the $$$ and is a rather quick/non complicated install.

    better road manners

    The biggest "handling" gain for your average street driver will be most observable going over really bad roads. I took my car on a before and after test on a particularly terrible route near my home and the rear felt much more predictable over badly maintained roads. Could not recommend more, especially considering the price!

    No more tail wag

    Super easy install, definitely reduced the tail wag. Only took about 15 minutes to install. Didn't weld in, and I can still tell a difference.

    Rear Shock Tower

    Didn't fit, heavy modification was required but made it fit. Very difficult to weld, but managed to get it done. Recommend it!
