The HTR Z5 that we have here is the latest and greatest maximum performance summer tire from Sumitomo and will be for the Mustang owners who are looking for an affordable tire that will outperform its price range. Now, the HTR Z5 will provide excellent traction in both wet and dry conditions, but should be used primarily in warmer temperatures for the best performance. Now, we do currently offer sizing to fit a 17 through 20-inch wheel. And in-section wheels ranging from 235 on the narrow side to 285 on the big end, making this an excellent choice for your staggered setup. Pricing as always will vary slightly depending on your size, but the Z5 remains remarkably consistent with 99% of your sizing, landing somewhere between the $100 to $200 range.So, as long as I've been doing my thing here at AM, I can remember the Sumitomo HTR lineup was the tire of choice if you wanted to keep things as affordable as possible. Now, they certainly improve their lineup over the years from the interesting looking HTR Z2, the very stout-performing HTR Z3, and now, we have the newest addition to their lineup with the addition of the Z5. On the surface, this tire really doesn't appear to be all that different from the very good budget performer in the Z3, but if you look a little closer, you can find some differences. First and foremost, they have revamped the sipes with the Z5. They've eliminated that wave-shaped center block, and they've widened your shoulder lugs a little bit here on the newer tire to help with your turning. But you still have the same number of circumferential grooves running around the tire, four, to be exact, in addition to the rows of tread blocks along with an updated compound here for the new edition. Now, they have actually widened those grooves a little bit here on the Z5, which is going to help improve this tire in the wet while also preventing hydroplaning. And that is one of the big takeaways here for me with the Z5. And that is its improved wet weather grip and braking performance. But for as good as this tire is in the wet, dry braking and acceleration is even better as this tire has even outperformed some of the more expensive tires in the category, according to some independent testing.Now, these pros do come with a couple of cons with the Z5 as this tire isn't as responsive as some of your other UHP offerings, despite the wider shoulder blocks. And this can partially be attributed to the softer sidewall here, which in turn is going to deliver a slightly softer ride while on the road and smallest amount of road noise. But all in all, at this price point, this tire is going to perform as advertised, if not a little better. Now, that tread pattern is asymmetrical, meaning you can rotate this tire in the traditional manner, which will help you get a relatively long lifespan of around 40,000 miles or so, depending on your driving habits and your rotation schedule from Sumitomo. Compound is pretty much what we come to expect out of a UHP tire, if not a tad on the firmer side with your UTQG numbers of 320 for treadwear, while both traction and temperature grades are the highest achievable with a AA and A respectively. Now, if you guys do want the full rundown of specs per tire size including your wheel width, tread depth, and tire weight, then I highly encourage you to head back to the product page and read up on some of those, if you haven't already done so.Also, keep in mind that this tire is available for some of our pre-built tire and wheel combinations, which is going to pair up the new Sumitomo's with a number of different popular wheels on the site in sizes that are guaranteed to fit your Mustang without rubbing, even if you're lowered up to 1 or 2 inches. And for owners out there of 2007 and newer Mustangs, don't forget to pick up some new TPMS sensors to prevent that annoying dash light in your ride. But wrapping things up, the newer HTR Z5 tire from Sumitomo will be a solid option for Mustang owners out there looking for a great performing tire, but without spending a boatload of money in the process.
