- Mustang Le Mans Stripe Installation Guide
Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at our AmericanMuscle graphics GT500 style stripes, fitting all 94-04 Mustangs. The Shelby GT500 needs no introduction, these amazing cars have been the pinnacle of cold performance ever since 1967 and continue to raise the bar to this day. These stripes are offered in 5 and 10” widths and several different color options including matte black, silver, white, and gloss black. All of our AmericanMuscle graphics are designed and produced right here in house using the highest quality premium cast vinyl, which is far more durable than some of the other vinyls used on the market today. In addition, our team then tests and tweaks each design on our very own cars first here at the shop, ensuring a perfect fit for your ride. When you receive the vinyl from us, you’ll notice we break the kit down into three different sections, to help make the install a little easier. One for the bumper and hood, one for the roof, and finally one for the trunk section which we have right here. Before you get started with the install, you’ll want to make sure you have a few basic tools, this includes a spray bottle filled with a soap and water mixture, a razor or exacto-knife and finally the included squeegee. If you’ve never worked with vinyl before, don’t worry, it’s really not all that hard as long as you take your time and follow the detailed instructions included with the kit. Since this is such a big job, we’re going to call it 6 hours from start to finish, just to be on the safe side. Just because Shelby didn’t release a New Edge or SN95 GT500, doesn’t mean your ride can’t don those famous stripes. So if you dig this look, be sure to check out one of our many GT500 style options right here at AmericanMuscle.com

To buy these stripes or have them painted on?
I have a 2020 GT convertible. I want the stripes to go all the way down in the front and the back to the last painted body surface. It there enough material for that? Do the stripes miss the sensors on the bumpers? Or are they too wide. Will the sensors not work if they cover them? How do you go around the license plate is that all cut free hand by the installer?Helpful (0)

Followed the steps from Americanmuscle.com and after I was ready to check out the stripes found it had wrinkles everywhere even though on the surface it looked completely fine this is the 2nd time I've been let down by a product all that money down the drainHelpful (1)

Don't last anywhere close to 8 years
The stripes look great don't get me wrong but they don't last as long as they say. My car was kept garaged for 2 years (it's a 2016), gets waxed every 3 months. It was only parked outside for a year and the stripes have now faded. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do now.Helpful (2)

Wow! Real quality Graphics. Simple to Install myself. Heat gun comes in handy. Removed 8” gloss I had on my 2015. Started to get water spots burned in from the sun. 10” matte much more aggressive looking. Nothing but compliments when I stop at lights. Make sure you buys the installation kit with the solvent. do not try to install dry. Spray the solvent on first. Makes installation perfect. Don’t worry, it drys perfect. Let it sit in the hot sun for a day of two to cure.Helpful (3)

I got my stripes professionally installed from a body shop. The installer told me that he had to work around the deck lid since it wasn't cut to spec but he made it work. I'm not sure since I only saw the results. These stripes were to replace my existing factory racing stripes so it was a little wider but not by much. This is a cheap alternative to painted stripes and factory stripes. And I trust AM compared to ebay and other decal shops.Helpful (3)

Great addition to Stang!
Got a set of these. had them installed at my local body shop.. he did a great job and was very reasonable. Takes some time to get them right the first time...and he did. Made my 2019 look that much better! Love them.Helpful (0)

They do the trick
These stripes do the trick, they look fierce and they stick on well. However, installation was absolutely terrible, I could’ve overhauled a transmission easier. There are these little bubbles that form even if you apply pressure and water for installation, the only solution is to stab at them with a needle. The material is strong but flimsy, it likes to fold on itself and make these awful creases. Again, it does the job, my car looks mean, but he installation is awful and I’m not impressed with the structural quality of the stripes.Helpful (1)

Great appearance upgrade
These stripes really elevated the look of my Mustang! It gives it a nice aggressive look while being quite affordable. Took a bit to install, but once done, well worth the effort!Helpful (0)
Bumper to Bumper? In some of the customer photos it shows the stripes go from the bottom of the front bumper to the bottom of the rear bumper, but the description of the stripes only state HOOD, ROOF, and TRUNK (no front or rear bumper). Is there enough vinyl to cover these parts as well? Thanks!
All of our stripe kits will come with enough vinyl to cover bumper to bumper!
I just bought a 2006 convertible Mustang. Do you have a kit for the convertible or do i buy the regular kit ?? That would leave me with 2 long top stripes. Thanks
Hello! We do not have a convertible specific stripe kit. However, this will fit if you do not use the 2 top stripes.
Once applied, can you wax the stripes as you wax your car or will the matte black finish fade?
You should never wax matte finished vinyl as the oils used in wax can stain the surface of the stripes. Simple soap and water is recommended on the Matte vinyl.
I have a 98 gt, does this kit come with enough to do the trunk under the spoiler and also do the spoiler?
Yes, this kit will come with enough vinyl to install on the trunk under the spoiler as well as the spoiler.
I just bought a white 2009 GT500 with what looks like gloss black stripes on it and I need to replace them on the top but not anywhere else. The stripes clearly have a metallic look to them with gold and brown flecks when you look close (couple inches away). Do your "gloss black" stripes have that same metallic look or am I going to have to replace everything to get a color match?
Our Black GT500 Style Stripes are a pure gloss black, with no metal flake in them.
You can use mostly anything to clean these stripes. The problem that you will run into is water marks. This can be prevented by drying them immediately after you clean them. Water marks will not go away if you do not dry them quick enough.
Unfortunately this kit will not go from bumper to bumper. This kit will include (1) Hood/Bumper Stripe, (1) Roof Stripe and (1) Trunk/Bumper Stripe
Our vinyl would be the brand Oracle and will have the air release technology.
We recommend having a paint/vinyl shop remove the stripes.
Some customers have modified our stripe kit further by adding a pinstripe accent. However, we currently do not offer this stripe kit with anything other than the Black GT500 Style 10 in. stripes
These GT500 stripes will come clear coated so no additional application is required. Simply remove the backing off the stripes and place on the vehicle.
Unfortunately, we do not carry 1/2 inch stripes for the Mustang at this time we only offer these strips in 8 inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches. If you wanted a stripe in that specific size, we would recommend consulting with a vinyl shop.
The American Muscle Graphics Black GT500 Style Stripes will need to be trimmed around the hood vents on 2018 GTs.
American Muscle Graphics uses only the highest quality Premium Cast Vinyl available on the market today - designed to last at least 8 years of harsh outdoor weather. As long as they are properly installed these bad boys should have no Issues when going through the wash!
These American Muscle Graphics Gloss White GT500 Style Stripes will work with hood scoops and spoilers as they come with extra stripe for these mods.
