- Mustang Le Mans Stripe Installation Guide
Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m checking out some of our AmericanMuscle Graphics Lemans stripes options available for all 2005 and up Mustangs. Lemans stripes originated on the race track back in the 50s and later Carol Shelby used them on his race cars as well. Eventually they found their way over to the production model 60s Mustangs, and of course the Shelby GT cars. These lemans stripes from AmericanMuscle Graphics are available in either an 8 or 12” width, and in your choice of either black, matte black, silver, white, red, or blue. All of our AmericanMuscle Graphics have been constructed from high quality premium cast vinyl, which will last for years without fading or peeling. Secondly, every one of our vinyl designs is test fitted on our own cars first, before being sent into production, ensuring a perfect fit on your ride every time. The install will take a little time so just be prepared, I will say that working with any vinyl can be a little tricky but we make it a little easier for you by breaking this kit down into three separate panels, and by including some very detailed instructions along with the kit. Before you get started, you will need some essential tools, of course we’ve got the soap and water mixture, a razor exacto knife, the included squeegee, some painters tape, and maybe a pin or a needing just to release any excess bubbles. This kit does require a lot of patience when it comes to the install, so that’s why we’re calling it 6 hours from start to finish, but don’t be upset if it takes you a full day. So while other cars might try and sport lemans stripes, I think there’s no denying they look best right here on a Mustang. So with that said, check out one of our many lemans stripes options right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Decent but very hard to install
The steps look good from a distance and have a nice gloss finish that looks like paint, however I tried doing this myself and it is very difficult to lay these stripes without getting a decent amount of tiny bubbles and wrinkles.Helpful (2)

Wish I had more Experience.
No complaints about the product, ship time, packaging or etc. I just didn't have the experience needed to correctly install these. I couldn't get them to go on straight without wrinkling in spots. All the time I took trying to get them to lay straight caused the vinyl to bubble and tear.Helpful (1)

White Striping Kit
The body shop at the Ford dealership had a terrible time installing the stripes on the roof the material was very thin and hard to manage. They were wrinkling and too many air bubbles. I pulled the stripes off the roof and will have them painted on.Helpful (2)

Quality film, well made and should last for years. Easy install if you keep it wet but be ready to trim them to fit around emblems, 3rd brake light, etc as they aren't pre-cut.Helpful (2)

12" Lemans Stripes
Hey the stripes looked great in the box, until I had a professional try to install them, they gathered together on the front of the hood just like the ones on the AM video. they could not manipulate this vinyl to make this go away. I ended up purchasing their 3M vinyl to get the stripes to look correct on my 2012 GT. BTW the 3M on these stripes was not for the vinyl but the paper backing according to my installer.Helpful (3)

Looks great, hard installation
Very time consuming. With my OCD of it needing to be perfect, took way longer than expected. Took a few days to get perfect, but looks really good. Hard to work with because it's not stretchy like normal vinyl wrap. Well worth it though.Helpful (2)

worth the patience
I had the 10 in. lemans stripes on my '14 before buying these to replace them. truth be told i ordered the 12 in. thinking i was looking at the 10 in. ones but it's a mistake i'd happily make again. as long as you take your time with putting them on, and make sure you have some painters tape down to help keep you straight they go on fairly easy. the front bumper is a bit tricky, and so can the spoiler/wing if you have one. best advise for those pick your locations for seams as close to a sharp bend or edge as you can to help keep your stripes straight and minimize the appearance of the seam. They give you enough extra in the kit to where you can botch the hood once, (twice if you only botch one stripe) and still have plenty to do the job. Ultimately, for the $$, its one of the most profound appearance impacts you can get! and yes, i know they don't make the car go faster, but you could swear they do once you step back and take your first good look at the completed project!Helpful (2)
stripe color? i am getting the smoked headlights, tail lights, quarter lights, and front turn signal and i really like the white stripes but im not sure if it will go well with the smoked lights...do you know if it looks bad or good or just better to go with black stripes?
The Black 12in. stripes is what I put on my '11. I like them with the smoked headlights, however I have to warn you. Do not let them get wet without a means of drying them and when you get through putting them/having them put on, DRY THEM OFF. I made the mistake of letting them sun dry in Texas. Just no. As for the color you should choose, if you've got all those smoked/dark items then you should definitely choose the black stripes. Hope this helps!
I have a V-6 2007 with a head scoop. Will the the instructions tell me how to put them on dealing with the scoop area?
Yes, both installation guides we provide on the product page for the White Lemans Stripes - 12 in. (05-14 All) will come with detailed instructions on how to install the stripes properly, including some instruction on the hood scoop area.
Does this kit cover the front and rear bumpers? Also can these stripes have a clear coat over top? I have stripes on my 2005 Mustang GT but they are 13 years old and starting to look it. I wanted to put on new ones and clear coat at the front bumper at least.
This will contain 1 Hood/Front Bumper Stripe, 1 Roof Stripe, and 1 Trunk Stripe and will cover the front and rear bumpers.
Are these precut?
These stripes are precut into three different sections for the hood, roof, and trunk. They will require additional cutting while being installed though.
Are these 3M products
The White Lemans Stripes - 12 in. (05-14 All) will not be a 3M product. This is a American Muscle graphic which is a Oracle product.
I would highly recommend removing the spoiler/wing for the application of the vinyl on the trunk. Then I would apply the vinyl after installing the spoiler/wing back on, to ensure that the vinyl on the car and the spoiler are centered with each other.
It's a vinyl overlay that if applied properly will look like it's painted on. If you ever want to remove it in the future you can, it won't damage the underlying paint. Just keep in mind the paint under the vinyl will not age at the same rate as the surrounding paint as it will be covered and protected from sun, etc. As for chipping, the vinyl is very good quality and will resist minor chipping.
Yes it will work, but I strongly recommend you don't put it on top of it. That rock guard is designed to be replaced after so many miles. I would remove it and put the stripes down. You can put it back on after or leave it off because the stripes will have some degree of protection.
Any tint shop can do it. U can also do it yourself easily with some slightly soapy water and a heat gun. Really not that bad. I can't see a decent shop charging more than $100-$150 to install.
Absolutely - there's enough material to cover bumper to bumper and then some. Hope this helps!
Yes, there will be plenty of vinyl material for you to go over your spoiler as well. Hope this helps!
All I did with mine was get a box cutter and carefully cut around the license plate box. There really isn't any kind of template out there you will probably just have to take your time and carefully make it symmetrical. I had no experience with mine and it turned out great.
Our stripe kits fit both coupe and convertible Mustangs. We don't sell a kit that solely comes with the trunk and hood sections unfortunately.
