Review & Install Video

Hey everyone, I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m checking out these smoked taillight covers for all 99-2004 v6 and GT mustangs. These covers are a must if you are looking to achieve that blackout styling that’s very popular with both mustangs new and old. Now these are also friendly on your budget as opposed to going for a full taillight replacement as well. Now technically they are smoked lenses but as you can see on our V6 back there, their definitely a little bit more of a total blackout. The kit is made of a durable acrylic composite material and features easy on and easy off Velcro installation. That means that these would be perfect for those who like to switch up the look of their ride often or you just want to use them for shows. All you need to complete the install is included with the kit itself, now the installation is extremely easy and requires no drilling, glue or any permanent modifications. All you do is simply adhere the covers to the factory tail lights using the supplied 3M tape and a little bit of Velcro. That’s it; installation should take about 15 minutes. As you can see once these covers are installed it transforms the rear end of your mustang from mild mannered to “don’t mess with me” in a blink of an eye. We also happen to have the sequential tail light kit installed on this car and you have to admit together it looks pretty cool. Now in my opinion the cherry on top would be the smoked 3rd tail light would totally complete the look. So if you’re going for the total blackout stealth look or you just want to turn up the aggressive styling for shows the smoked tail light covers for your 99-04 mustang might be worth the look.

Great Styling And Extra Protection. Now you can add stealthy aerodynamic styling to your Mustang and protect your Tail Lights from road debris at the same time with a set of SpeedForm Smoked Tail Light Covers. These covers easily and securely attach to your stock lights with no drilling required.

Quality Materials. Precision molded from a composite acrylic material that has a dark smoked appearance for stealthy styling, these SpeedForm Mustang Tail Light Covers are extremely durable and will last for years.

Hassle-free install. Installation is easy and painless, just thoroughly clean your Tail Lights, remove the adhesive tape backing, position the cover into place, and you're done!

Recommended Upgrade. Why stop with just your tail lights when you can take your pony to the next level with a set matching smoked fog light or head light covers (sold separately).

Application. These SpeedForm Smoked Mustang Tail Light Covers are designed to be used on the New Edge 1999 to 2004 V6, GT, Bullitt, Mach 1, and SVT Cobra Mustangs. Please check your local and state ordinances for installation and usage regulations.

I have a 2K, V6 convertible which I take to a local car wash for a good clean once a month. Will these tail light covers take a "Power" wash? (the spinning brush type)

MorgansDad

  • The Smoked Tail Light Covers should hold up to the automated wash, however, excessive force can indeed remove or damage these covers.

I have taillights that are two slightly different shades. One is a bit darker than the other but is still noticeable. I was wondering, would these even them out? Or would one still be darker than the other?

jchon20

  • The Smoked Tail Light Covers (99-04 All) is a direct cover over your stock taillights. However the covers will not even the color of the light that is projected out of the original taillights. Also, depending on which state you are in, there may be restrictions that do not allow you to use these. Please check your local and state ordinances for usage regulations.

All year round? Canada Will these covers fall off in the winter? it gets to -40 degrees here and will the tape hold? and is it ok to use a pressure washer with these on? thanks in advance.

Zovah

  • the tape will hold...just make sure you put the tape on in 80 degree weather it has to cure in hot weather...if it comes loose use 30 min clear silicone.....be very careful with that pressure washer around those tailights...

Think I will be able to keep these on, year round? through winter and such? or will they loosen and fall off?

Zovah

  • If installed correctly you shouldn't have to worry about them falling off due to weather/temperature.

    Great but becareful

I have a black mustang with pretty much blacked out everything. The exception is my tailights, i did have these covers and i first put them on with what they came with and they fell off on the highway, luckily they didnt scratch up to bad and i found them and put them back on. So i then changed it to the more aggressive velcro that doesnt come off. Even then they still fell off so if your worried about having these be careful on the highway and make sure there on good. Also find some other stuff that will stick the lights better to your tailights cause like i said they will come of f when going fast

    BlackedTails?!

100% love this product. You can see through them when it\'s still dark, they give off plenty of light still and they give a great aggressive look to the car. This is definatly worth it and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something affordable to make their car look much more stylish.

    Good look

These taillight covers are well worth the money and they give your stang a great muscle car look. Note that they make the car appear fatter. However only downside is they dont stick well since the adhesive they come with isnt the strongest, so buy double sided velcro and they work and look great. Good Buy.

    New and improved!

This has made a big change towards the regular stock lights and making it look more intense and a TARGET for others to see, has a gave my car a better look on the outside.

    Covers

Goes on easy, could use more double sided tape one cover came loose and I had to buy more tape. You can also see the tape when you brake which I don't like, but they look sick in the day light. My stang is all blacked out and this adds to the look!

Problems with adhesive, police made me take them off

I like the look of them, but the police didn't. I had them on for a few weeks until state police pulled me over for improper lighting. He said it's due to the fact that they aren't reflective and not the standard red. He had me take them off during the traffic stop, or else I'd be getting a ticket (nice about it though). The other bad part was the standard velcro adhesive that came with the covers did not stick well and I had to purchase some better velcro adhesive from a fabric store. Needless to say, I am no longer using them and back to my stock taillights. I will be looking for a smoked taillight assembly that is a little more legal looking, hopefully they make some with reflective material in them.

These covers look amazing while the cars brakes lights are not on, but when they are, you can see the pesky little 3m Velcro squares through the cover. Kind of disappointing.

    Sharp, but needs some thought.

These look great on my blacked out 02' GT, although prior to installation I was surprised to see WHITE adhesive backed- 3M scotchlocks.. The idea is to black out.. not have little white rectangles in the corners of the lights.. looking past this- I installed them on the car using an adhesion promoter we use in GM-technician-land on all double sided tape surfaces. Unfortunately after a few days I came out and found two of the adhesives had completely separated from the lens I had stuck them to (yes.. it was cleaned properly). I'm a little disappointed as I think a little more thought could have went into this product, but after I find a way to re-attach the retainers (probably with superglue.. as I see this being the only way), i'm sure they'll look great. They're sharp, but i'm sick of buying accessories and having to "fix" them when they should have come ready-to-go in the first place.

    Love it.

These are much better than the rinky dinky taillights that come stock with the 2004 mustangs. Gives the car a meaner look. It has 3m tape sections included and went on pretty easy.

It looks great while the tail lights are OFF, but when on, you can see the 3M installation Velcro, which is a disappointment. But good for a budget buy.

    Good but tricky

Make sure you have clean the tailight real clean or it wont stick...make sure your trunk is closed so the caps dont get pinched by the trunk when it closes...either than that it looks great and gives a different look to your car

Always get asked where I got them.

Really like the look, it complements the Screaming Yellow and Matte Black look I got going on. Only problem is they keep flying off on the freeway the last time I couldn't find the right side. They were both replaced at no expense, thanks AM! Make sure when you install the covers use a stronger loop and latch tape underneath the outside entire edge, this will.make it much stronger and will not blow off on the freeway again.
