Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, what's going on, guys? Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a detailed review of the Anderson Composites Type-OE Rear Valance in the carbon fiber finish, fitting all 2015 and newer premium GT and EcoBoost Mustangs. So in this video I'll be going over the styling and appearance you can expect when picking up this rear valance from Anderson Composites, as well as the materials and construction given the nature of its carbon fiber makeup. I'll even walk you through the installation, which I'll tell you upfront will get a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. So let's get right into it. So the Anderson Composites Type-OE Rear Valance in the carbon fiber finish will be for all 2015 and newer premium package GT and EcoBoost Mustang owners out there looking to switch up the rear end of their S550 without straying too far from the OE design, but they might want to add that carbon fiber finish for good aggressive looks. So to kick things up, the first thing I want to touch on is the materials and construction of this rear valance from Anderson Composites. The first thing that's jumping out at you is that carbon fiber name in the title here. Now this isn't a carbon fiber vinyl laid over an ABS plastic. This is a true, 100% carbon fiber makeup that will fit any premium package GT and EcoBoost S550 Mustang out there. Now you will have to have that premium package rear end for this one to work. So if you've got the basic base model then you might not be able to pick this one up unless you convert it over to the premium package bumper. Now, with that said, this is 100% carbon fiber, all hand laid infused weave with a very high gloss finish for a very attractive look, all while keeping that factory styling and design. Now as for the styling and appearance you can expect an OEM fit and finish into your premium package GT and EcoBoost Mustang, just with that carbon fiber construction, and, of course, the high gloss hand laid weave that makes it a visually appealing piece. Now, of course, this one is usually reserved for those exotic cars out there with carbon fiber exterior parts, so you can pick this one up for your S550 to make it stand out on the street for just about 650 bucks, definitely a common price tag for true carbon fiber parts for the S550s. Now to some it might sound like a pretty high price tag. You do want to keep in mind the lightweight and durability of the carbon fiber part and, of course, the attractiveness that makes it stand out, looking like a show car piece. So switching gears over to the installation portion of the video, like I said in the beginning, this one will get a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, something anybody can do with just a little bit of time and the driveway at home. However, there will be two different methods of installation I will recommend. It will all depend on what you're comfortable with and how you'd like to proceed. Now, of course, the first method will be completely removing your factory rear bumper to work on a table of some sort, maybe making it easier for some people. However, some other people may not want to spend that extra step and might just want to jack the car up and work from underneath. Either way, the only thing you're really gonna have to do is find a way to unbolt that rear valance from the factory. Remove that and reuse your factory hardware to just bolt up the Anderson Composites carbon fiber piece. Overall, if you're working under the car, maybe an hour or so. If you're taking the rear bumper off, maybe two hours. So either way, at the end of the day this is definitely something anybody can do with just a little bit of time and some basic hand tools, like a ratchet and socket set. Well, just to quickly wrap things up, if you're the owner of 2015 or newer premium package GT or EcoBoost Mustang and you're looking for a way to switch up the rear end look of your S550 without straying too far from the factory styling, you might want to check out the Anderson Composites Type-OE Rear Valance in the carbon fiber finish, of course, available right here at americanmuscle.com.

    Poor design

This Anderson Composites rear valance looks nice when you unpack it, but trying to install it quickly reveals several design flaws. The tabs on the stock piece have ridges that cause it to snap tightly into place. The Anderson Valance has no ridges on the tabs; they are smooth, so they just sit in the slots on the body panels with nothing to hold them tight. There are 2 posts that are attachment points for the top of the reverse light, which on this Anderson unit do not have holes pre-drilled. I drilled holes and even with the screws in place, the valence didn't cover up the top of the reverse light the way the stock one did. Along the bottom of each quarter panel there are screws holding the unit on by way of clips that fit over each tab. The Anderson unit doesn't come with any clips and you can't reuse the stock clips because the tabs are too big. At least one of the holes for the screws didn't line up wit the quarter panel hole. Even if I modified the tabs to fit the clips and re-drilled new holes, which should never be necessary, the fit would still be unacceptable. Even with it pressed tightly in place, I could see daylight between the valence and the curve of the lower quarter panel. I returned this item.
