Which part is the one I would need to get air through the vents currently its stuck on defrost.

    • From your description it sounds like you need the OPR HVAC Blend Door Actuator linked below: https://www.americanmuscle.com/hvac-defrost-blend-actuator-0509.html

Seems there are three different actuators behind glove box for 2008 mustang, I've seen three different model numbers, on other part sites, all the same except ending in A, B, or C. The one I need is hardest to get to, up and above one just to left of glove box. It controls air to vents for driver and passenger. Is that a separate model number or does this unit work for all three actuators????

    • This OPR HVAC Blend Door Actuator is for the air inlet blend door, and is the one that controls the fresh air/recirculate blend door. The remaining two actuators are the defrost actuator, mounted on the passenger side of the plenum, and the panel/floor blend door, mounted on the driver side.

I get the clicking sound when I move the dial from the floor vent (the symbol at 1 o'clock) to the Off position at noon. Which actuator needs replacing? Thank you!

    • In order to determine which blend door actuator has failed, you will need to locate which is clicking. This most likely is the mode door actuator, but may be another actuator.

I have a problem with one of the four actuators. 3 are accessible from passenger side the other is accessible under driver side and thats the one thats all by itself and I need to change. Its also the hardest one to work with. Is this the right part for it?

    • The actuator on the driver side would be the actuator for the Panel/Floor door. This would not be one that we currently offer.

What is the difference between this unit and the defrost unit? I have that annoying clicking sound in my dash. I'm not sure which unit to buy. My HVAC system still functions properly. I just want that clicking to stop.

    • This is the actuator that moves the air inlet door while the other one is for the defrost. Depending on when you are getting that clicking sound will help figure out which one to get.

My HVAC is stuck on defrost. It will occasionally put a little air out through the floor when I select an option to mix floor in, but all other option are defrost only. Can I safely assume that this actuator has gone bad and can no longer trigger the dash vents as a result? 1 answer
is this blend door the one that controls air flow thur the dash to the driver and passeanger 1 answer

      They are working

After a bunch of tries, and figuring out which actuator was clicking, the part seems to be working to replace the factory one. A PAIN to install, but that is not the products fault, just the Mustang design. Also, careful to make sure the arm is in the joint otherwise the actuator doesn't work properly.

Broke after a few months of use

I purchased this unit a few months back to replace my motorcraft one that failed. This unit has already failed on me as the clicking noise came back. When I went to remove it from behind my dashboard, I noticed a tab was broken off causing slippage inside the actuator. I would have hoped that this actuator would have been just as good as the motorcraft one, but I was wrong. I would highly recommend staying with OEM on this.

      When Quality is Ford One.

The part fit perfect. Followed You Tube install instruction, was not that bad. Great service, and delivery. I am always assured of a quality product and pricing when purchasing from American Muscle. When "Quality" is Ford One, it's a pleasure to see that my purchases meet that goal.

      You can do it!

First these can be hard to get to and you will learn new ways to twist and turn your whole body, but with enough patience, it's not to bad! My Bullitt Mustang sounds better and makes me feel great not hearing all those poping noises, which is worth the sweat! I removed my glove box completely to get clear view and access to both this one and the mode door behind the right hand (as sitting in driver seat) stereo panel. The two mode doors for behind the stereo have four pins and I believe are the same part number this one has only two pins on it and is right beside the fan assembly.

      Fixed the problem

Had a clicking noise whenever I ran the AC in my mustang so I finally decided to find out why which brought me to this part. Bought it, installed it with a buddy and no more clicking! It's going to take some time to put on and I recommend removing the glove box but it went in. Thanks AM.

      Air inlet blend door actuator

Item works great once you figure out how to get to it to replace it! Difficult to install perfect fit once you get it on. I found removing glove box made it easier to access actuator. Make sure you have a bright flashlight and time and patience. You will save a whole lot of money installing yourself Ford will charge an arm and a leg to do it!
