Simple installation for anyone.
Hey everybody, Dave from Bama performance, and today I have an Airaid cold air intake kit, designed for your 05-09 Mustang GT. This kit comes with everything you’re going to need, including a tube insert, the tube itself, all the clamps, and a new heat shield and filter. Now something you might have noticed just by looking at it, this features a sleek, black design, right on down through the couplers. Something you might not have noticed, is this kit includes an insert, now this insert goes inside the tube, and slightly restricts flow, allowing you to run this kit on your 05-09 GT, right out of the box, with no tune required, and still see a good performance gain. But if you’re looking for maximum gains like we are today, we’re going to remove the insert, and put this on our 05 GT, and get some serious dyn numbers. But before we do that, let’s get our stock GT up there and see what our baseline performance numbers are. We produced 257 horse power and 285 ft/lbs of torque. So we just ran the car stock and immediately took that intake off and installed our Airaid all black cold air intake kit. We installed a 93 Octane Bama race tune, here’s what this will do for you, it’ll give the optimized spark timing, adjusts your variable cam timing, give you a perfect air/fuel ratio, and dramatically improve your throttle response. We re-ran it with the Bama tune. Showing up with an additional 27 horse power and 26 ft/lbs of torque.

Straight forward bolt on as expected. Favorite thing about it is the option to run it with or without a tune when given the sleeve for the inside of the tube.Helpful (0)

Airaid MXP Install
This has got to be one of the easiest installs I ever did. The immediate sound of extra power reminds me of the 60s when we would remove our aircleaner filter to get that crazy air intake sound. Total install was less than an hour while I watched TV in my garage.Helpful (0)

The guys and gals from American Muscle really hooked me up with this product, I had bought another cold air intake that said no tune required, but kept throwing codes for being too lean. This was an easy install and no tune required and no codes coming up. Nice part is if I do decide to tune later all I do is slide the internal sleeve out.Helpful (3)

Airaid MXP Series CAI
Great mod in my opinion, no tube required and very easy to install. If you looking for a cai , then this is the one!Helpful (9)
How much gain w/out a tune? Is it worth it? I have a drop in k&n filter in my stock airbox. Would it be worth it to get a cai system w/out a tune bc im trying to avoid getting a tune. Will it still increase the airflow to make a difference in sound and performance over the k&n drop in filter? Im mainly looking for a deeper sound, better fuel economy, and a few more hps. Thanks
Yes, It will increase air flow a bit and you will get that old school deep sound from under the hood when you get on the gas. If I were you I would get one like the no tune required Air Raid. It has a insert called a Modular Venturi Tube which restricts the air flow just enough to not require a tune. Then if you should decide to get a tune you just remove the insert and you have a full race CAI that requires a tune. The best of both wolds. Because trust me down the road you will want a tune.
If I buy the sct tuner and this cai is there a tune on the sct ready for it and with the tunes on the sct Will i need to keep the restrictor on or take it off
If you are using the pre-loaded SCT tunes you will need to keep the restrictor on. However, if you have custom tunes once you get a tune update you can run with the restrictor off.
Will the engine/intake be noticeably louder with this intake installed w/o a tune? And does it increase exhaust volume too or just intake volume?
No, theAiraid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaFlow Oiled Filter will not cause a noticeable difference in engine/intake sound. This will just increase the intake volume.
If I buy the sct tuner and I run this intake is there a preloaded tune for with the restriction on. And is there one with out the restriction on
The SCT tuner would have a pre-loaded tune for this intake with the venturi tube insert in. However, with the insert removed then you will need a custom tune.
If i bought this intake and removed the venturi tube would it be the same intake as the tune required airaid race intake? I would like this one better if so cause i could run it with the stock tune some or airaid induction tune with the venturi tube removed.
Unfortunately, this intake and the Airaid race intake would not be the same item regardless of the venturi tube. However, with the venturi tube removed and a tune installed you would be able to see gains close to what the race intake would get you.
The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake will fit over larger throttle bodies. You may need to allow the coupler to soak in some hot water for a few minutes and/or use some silicone spray lubricant with throttle bodies that are exceptionally large to ease the coupler over.
The racer cold air system has a higher and better flow rate than the MXP which is why it requires the tune, the MXP can get close to the same performance, but the race overall would be more.
Yes! Thanks to the Modular Venturi Tube, the Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake will work with or without a tune.
The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaFlow Oiled Filter will allow you to remove the MVT but then would require a tune. This would also be 100mm MAF when removed.
I wouldn't think you'd need a tune since neither require one on their own, but a tune would definitely optimize performance gains, I wouldn't expect much gains without one. I'd skip the throttle body and get a tuner instead. Will have a big performance gain, no throttle lag, and free tunes for life from bama. Throttle bodies on these cars don't have any real gains until you have some serious mods such as long tubes, heads, and cams, or making a lot of hp. Good luck.
The tunes that we create would be for having the MVT removed and they would work for any octane. The octane of the fuel is more important to spark timing within the tune than anything else.
Sure, you can definitely install this CAI along with your stock TB without any problems!
Absolutely. Installed both at the same time.
