- How to Install an Airaid Cold Air Intake on your 2005-2009 V6 Mustang
Hi, I’m Mike Wilson with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is the Airaid cold air intake kit 2005-2009 Mustang V6. We’re going to show you what kind of horse power and torque numbers to expect when you combine this with a Bama performance 93 Octane race tune. But first, we’re going to do a stock dyno run so we have some baseline horse power and torque numbers to work on. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The Aidraid cold air intake kit replaces the factory restrictive airbox, with a one piece plastic intake tube, that incorporates the mass air housing. It also connects to a high flow airbox with a reusable air filter, which will increase horse power, torque, acceleration, and give you a throaty engine sound. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize your performance, through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness, and adjustable shift points. Now let’s make another dyno run, see what kind of horse power and torque we can get. With the Airaid cold air intake and a Bama performance tune, our car put down 193 horse power and 222 ft/lbs of torque. We’re gaining as much as 26 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. In under an hours time using simple hand tools we installed the Airaid cold air intake and a Bama performance tune, and gained as much as 26 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque.

Nice Sound and easy install
I didn't get a tune yet, but even in a stock car it adds a nice intake sound and the throttle response seems to be improved. Great for a daily driver.Helpful (0)

Giving your V6 that bit more punch
Hi fitted one about a year back. then put a SCT flash tunner on the Mustang , with the tune makes a big Difference , only issue was when uploading the tune it did not have Airaid in the list of CAI filter ‘s to choose from . But easy to fit with a tune worth itHelpful (3)

Easy Install! The steps are well detailed and give clear pictures to give exact steps. Easy to install yourself, however, if you are one who is worried about self installation, then you could take it to your shop...Helpful (3)

Noticeable performance difference
This filter gave me a noticeably significant performance gain, with slightly more fuel economy. My only complaint is that the fitting wasn't perfect, and I did have to widen a few of the holes to get the screws to fit properly. Other than that, I'm quite pleased with this purchase. Highly recommend!Helpful (4)

The people who I deal with are great.
I am really pleased with this product. I enjoy buying stuff for the Mustang from American Muscle. This is the place where I want and will buy what I need for this car.Helpful (4)
Would it be better power and money wise to get this CAI without a filter or get a tuner without a CAI? Where would I get the most power gain?
Hello! I am assuming that you meant which would give you more power if either a CAI or a Tuner, but not both. Obviously they work off of each other, so to get the full potential of either they should be paired together, but personally I would start with a tuner if choosing BAMA, as retunes are free. If choosing a different tuner, I would buy the CAI first and then get the correct tune afterwards.
is the filter oiled or not ?
Yes the filer is oiled and you should buy the cleaning and recharge kit for it
Is this setup California legal
This Airaid Mustang FIPK Air Intake Kit is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-609-5. So it is legal in California.
What is the difference between this unit and Part#102461 other than this one using an oiled filter and the later using a dry filter? Is there another difference? Is one better than the other?
The only difference between the two is one uses a Dry Filter while the other uses an Oiled Filter. An Oiled Filter allows the fibers to open up which aids in superior filtration. A Dry Filter does not. Realistically, it will not matter in performance unless you are using the car on the track. An Oiled Filter is preferred for racing applications.
how much horsepower does this add? is it really worth it just to get a little more power?
Typically you will see an 7 to 15 hp gain without a tune but with a tune you would most likely see a 25 to 35 hp gain. I highly recommend buying a hand held tuner to get the most out of your mods.
Yes, this will indeed be compatible with a 70mm throttle body.
This does not include a venturi insert.
The filter will be pre-oiled. However, it will need to be re-oiled after cleaning the filter. We recommend a recharge kit as that will include everything needed to clean the filter.
The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake has been dyno'd and tested to generate approximately 26 HP and 36 TQ with Optional Tune. However, please be aware these numbers are are a general baseline number and can see more or less power depending on the exact application.
Yes, you can use the Airaid CAI and the SR Performance 70mm TB together without any issues! This would be a terrific pairing!
You would have nothing to worry about with this CAI installed in terms of water getting in.
Those HP and torque numbers are with the optional tune.
The power gain all depends on what other modifications you have done to the car. Though, you will see a nice increase in power with this CAI.
Any time you boost the amount of air into a motor, you are very likely to see an increase in power. Thing is, with the newer Mustangs, Ford has already tuned the cars greatly from the factory. Many times owners, who add things like this, experience a power loss because the car is not retuned after installing. After installing any performance item to your newer Mustang, you should retune to get the ultimate power gain. It's a new world out there! Where 79-04 you could add a CAI and experience an instant gain, you now have to retune before experiencing the same boost. That being said, this is a very good item and will help the car breath better, but get the tune also.
