    Review & Install Video

Hi, I’m Mike Wilson with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is the Airaid cold air intake kit 2005-2009 Mustang V6. We’re going to show you what kind of horse power and torque numbers to expect when you combine this with a Bama performance 93 Octane race tune. But first, we’re going to do a stock dyno run so we have some baseline horse power and torque numbers to work on. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The Aidraid cold air intake kit replaces the factory restrictive airbox, with a one piece plastic intake tube, that incorporates the mass air housing. It also connects to a high flow airbox with a reusable air filter, which will increase horse power, torque, acceleration, and give you a throaty engine sound. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize your performance, through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness, and adjustable shift points. Now let’s make another dyno run, see what kind of horse power and torque we can get. With the Airaid cold air intake and a Bama performance tune, our car put down 193 horse power and 222 ft/lbs of torque. We’re gaining as much as 26 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. In under an hours time using simple hand tools we installed the Airaid cold air intake and a Bama performance tune, and gained as much as 26 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque.

Increase horsepower and torque. Airaid Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your engine maximum air flow, which translates to more horsepower, torque and improved fuel efficiency. Airaid intakes are dyno tested and tuned for maximum performance and efficiency.

Superior Filtration. Each cold air intake provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles that ordinary cotton-gauze "performance" filters just can't capture. Airaid Premium Filters, with SynthaFlow® can capture particulates down to 2 microns in size. And best of all Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

CARB Certified. Best of all this Airaid Mustang FIPK Air Intake Kit is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-609-5.

Application. This Airaid kit is designed to fit the 2005-2009 4.0 V6 Mustang with no computer retune required. By utilizing state of the art computer-aided designs, Airaid Intake Systems offer unmatched fit, finish, and power!

Would this go along with the SR 70mm performance throttle body

    • Yes, you can use the Airaid CAI and the SR Performance 70mm TB together without any issues! This would be a terrific pairing!

I love somewhere where it rains and snows during the winter months and I’m worried about ruining my engine. Do I have to worry about water getting into this specific cai or any others you have?

    • You would have nothing to worry about with this CAI installed in terms of water getting in.

Would you get the 26 HP and 36 extra torque if you just get the cold air intake and not buy the tuner?

    • Those HP and torque numbers are with the optional tune.

Would it be better power and money wise to get this CAI without a filter or get a tuner without a CAI? Where would I get the most power gain?

    • Hello! I am assuming that you meant which would give you more power if either a CAI or a Tuner, but not both. Obviously they work off of each other, so to get the full potential of either they should be paired together, but personally I would start with a tuner if choosing BAMA, as retunes are free. If choosing a different tuner, I would buy the CAI first and then get the correct tune afterwards.

I noticed some drops of water on the intake plastic shield??? I have heard of hydrolock from CAI systems. I checked the car after a lot of heavy rain and noticed some drops of water inside the intake plastic housing. I always try to avoid deep water when driving but am I in any danger of damaging the car? I found a product by Injen that they call a hydroshield that is a waterproof "bag" that goes over the cone but still allows full airflow. I just wanted to know if I should be worried about the small amount of water there? How much water does it take before it can be sucked into the intake system? 3 answers

      Airaid intake

This intake fits great, no troubles installing. I can't say how much power this adds, but throttle response is definitely quicker, and exhaust note is deeper with my dual magnaflows. I haven't had the car on the freeway yet, but my in town mileage has been about 2 to 3 mpg better. I installed this with the stock air box rubber bushing and sleeve, I thought it looked better than the aluminum bushing and washer. My only complaint is that the rubber couplers don't have the Airaid logo like some of the pictures and, one of the hose clamps was different from the others, and was a slightly different color. I haven't had a check engine light or any other problems, overall very happy with this purchase.

      Cold air intake

Fit is good, power gain is minor, looks cool and did slightly change my exhaust note for the better. The instructions are lacking somewhat. Could be better photos in the instructions, I have a detached garage and my wifi doesn't reach out there. In the instructions they reference the online instructions. I never looked them, they maybe an easier read. My install was just over an hour and 1/2. Nothing in the drop down box matched my time so I choose less than an hour

      MUST BUY

Bought this not expecting much of a change, while I can feel a little power increase and better throttle response my 0-60mph time dropped 0.73 seconds which is a huge difference just off of a simple bolt on. Not to mention the B-A sound the intake makes around 3k rpms when it is sucking in the air. Love this product! Would recommend to anyone looking for a performance upgrade for cheap!

      Not bad, not great

The box was missing a part. After a call to AM, I decided to call Airaid direct. Airaid overnighted the part to me no problem. This saved me a lot of time over doing an exchange with AM. The instructions are sufficient and it is not a difficult install. It did not fit perfectly in place but it was close enough. I did notice a very slight improvement in throttle response and low end torque. It seemed to "mellow out" the Pypes dual exhaust tone to a bit smoother growl. But over all not much difference in performance without the optional tune. I have not ordered a tune yet as I am looking at several options.

      Yeah Worth it....

Brings better MPG. I clocked my MPG before getting it and after, I got about 3 more MPG. Also a slight increase in power. MPX Cold air intake paid for itself in gas.... and saves me money with how much I drive. If you have the money I would buy it.

      READ THE FINE PRINT

The installation of this product was simple and relatively fast. If you live in California read the fine print and make sure you locate the decal that must be attached to pass smog inspections. If the model does not have one don't buy it for California use. It has improved the gas mileage and pickup on my 2006 V6. Glad I purchased it.

      Fit and performance

I came home from work, still in my suit. Took the tie off and within an hour it was on. Just the intake and filter gave me better performance and response. No warning lights. A few days later the tuner came in, what a jump between the two of them. Buy this product at least, it wakes up the pony

      nice sound improvement

I installed this at the same time as a Bama tune so I can't tell how much power increase was from this and how much from the tune, overall about 19hp increase. the sound is far better now and ahas to be primarily from the CAI. It was an easy install, looks great and sounds great.
