The Alterum Neoprene Front Seat Covers that we have here are gonna be an affordable, well-fitting option for all '99 to '04 Coupe owners, either looking to protect their mint factory seats, or more likely to cover up a set of worn and ripped seats, which is instantly going to improve the interior in the process. Now, the Alterums will feature a black wetsuit-like material along with some included foam backing all for right around 100 bucks for the pair. Now, installation, as you might imagine, gonna be pretty straightforward here, gang. So figure soft one out of three wrenches on the old difficulty meter and I would say about 30 minutes of your time to get everything in place from start to finish as we'll demonstrate, by the way, later in the video. All right. So I feel like the Alterums here are going to appeal to two different types of new edge owners out there. First up, owners who might be holding on to those rare set of mint factory front seats and wanna keep them looking that way which, let's face it, is probably pretty rare given the age of these cars. The more realistic scenario, in my humble opinion, will be those new edge owners out there looking to cover up a set of factory seats that have just seen better days. Let's face it, these cars are getting pretty old right now, and those owners probably don't wanna fork out hundreds and hundreds of dollars to replace them. If that's the case, well then a set of form-fitting covers like the Alterums here will again be an instant upgrade, affordable way to freshen up the interior of your ride, and can be done in a matter of minutes. The materials here for the Alterums are gonna be a thick and durable neoprene, which is essentially the same thing used in wetsuits. These are probably a little bit thinner than like a three-mil wet suit out there, but just know it's in that scene kind of family. Material has also been UV-coated to prevent that black from fading on you over the years. And the nice thing about this neoprene is that it has great elastic properties, meaning it's gonna hug the seats very well, it's not gonna get loose and baggy on you after a few months of use, and should retain that shape with many years to come. Now, helping that fit will be the fact that these have been designed and built using OEM Ford CAD data. So you can expect a factory-like fit and one that I will certainly admit is a bit tight to get on the first time around, but once you get them on there, they're gonna be good and they're gonna hold that shape, and I think it's just gonna contribute to a much better look as opposed to going to your local auto parts store down the street and grabbing a one-size-fits-most option. Now, the Alterum kit does include a set of three individual covers for each sheet. So you got a bottom, a back, and a headrest for both driver and passenger side seats. Now, before we get into the installation, I just wanna remind you guys, check out the many, many different customer-submitted images and reviews here on the Alterum covers as it's always a great way to both see and hear from actual new edge owners who have installed them and just to see how they are digging. But now, as promised, we do wanna show you just what it takes to get these installed on that new edge at home. So without further ado, check out our detailed walkthrough right now.Tool I used for this installation includes one crudely bent wire coat hanger. All right. Getting started here today, not a bad install, as you might imagine. However, the toughest part of this job will be to actually, believe it or not, remove your factory headrest. Now, there are a few different ways to do this. We have a very scientific coat hanger method here to today that we're gonna show you how it works right now. So as you can see, we have the headrest here, the factory had rest. And in order to remove this, you actually need to get something long, like a coat hanger, as we just said, and get it down in this groove to release the clip that's somewhere down, right above the pony on your factory seat. Some people like to go just right down the groove itself. What I like to do is actually, kind of, get underneath the plastic, as you can see right here, and start by going down here. And then once you get it in there, you'll hear the clip release and at that point, you can pull the headrest out. So, again, some people come right into the groove and go this way. I like to give myself a headstart, pull down the fabric on your factory seat, and now go down the groove. And to release, you kinda got to go down and up while applying pressure on your hanger or whatever you got out. Now that comes. With our headrest removed, now we can work on our seatback, sliding it over the factory seat, making sure we get the seatbelt retainer out of the headrest hole. Now, once you get the seat down fully over the factory seatback, this flap here needs to go underneath the seatback and then connect with the Velcro on the other side. Tuck it on through. We've pushed the seat forward to give you a better look here at the Velcro connection. Get this pulled tight, making sure our seat release can still fit through the slot.Up next is our seat bottom here, gang. And one thing to point out is that these covers are side-specific. Just make sure you're grabbing the correct side for each install because, as you can see, we have our cutout right here for our factory C controls. Okay. So we're gonna get these in place. Now, these two straps here will need to go underneath the seat and connect with the clips on the back portion of the seat. So, again, we're gonna tuck these two clips on the back and eventually connect our lower straps here. So I'm actually gonna take the strap and come around the side because we have our factory seat controls up here and work away under the seat through this side, grabbing the strap with my other hand. With our straps routed through, go ahead and make your connections and pull them tight. With everything tight, go ahead and tuck the straps or the slack underneath the seat. And that part's good to go.Just about there, but our final step is, of course, to cover our factory headrest with the Alterum cover, which we'll do right now, and re-install it on our seat. And, finally, with our cover on our headrest, we can re-install simply by inserting, pushing down. And with the headrest portion done, that's gonna knock out the driver's side. Simply repeat that process on the passenger side and your installation is complete.Hey, we hope you enjoyed this brief review and install of the Alterum Seat Covers, available for your '99 to '04 Coupe Mustang at home.
