      Today we're going to be taking a look at the Baer SS4 Deep Stage Rear Brake Kit in Red for the 2015 and newer GT EcoBoost and V6 Mustang. This system will upgrade your rear brakes to four-piston calipers mounted to an 11.62-inch two-piece slotted and drilled rotor that uses one of Baer's popular brake pads. Baer claims that this is the first drag race system that's designed specifically for heavy fast cars that might also see street time. This is a drag race specific rear brake upgrade kit that will fit most 15-inch and larger wheels. So, this is gonna be something that you want to check out for a few different reasons. The main reason to check this out is if you're looking for a rear brake upgrade kit that allow you to get a 15-inch wheel on the back of the S550 GT, V6 or EcoBoost. You'll also want to take a look at it if you're simply looking for a rear brake upgrade kit that can be used on the track or on the street. It's gonna cost about $900 and we'll call the install a two out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter. The kit comes with your two calipers, brake pads, two-piece rotors, brackets, and your install hardware. This kit doesn't come with new hoses, so just be aware of that. You're also eliminating your parking brake with this upgrade too. And one note that I want to make about the brake pads, the pads that you get with this kit are a popular street compound pad that are low on noise and dust. They're not suited for track use, but you can easily pick up a race compound pad for track use when you're ready.There are a handful of benefits that come along with this kit. Of course, if the upgrade in braking performance is made specifically for those heavy fast cars that not only see dragstrip time but also street time. Not only do you get the benefits of the larger brake system but you get it in a smaller package that allow you to get that coveted 15-inch wheel on that rear the S550 that could have fit most Beadlock wheels. Another benefit here is weight loss. And depending on what OE brake package you have you can be saving as much as 32 pounds with this kit. So, let's take a closer look at the components of the kit here. We already talked about the street compound pads coming with the kit and you can upgrade to the trackpads for racing. Let's look at the calipers next. There are four-piston calipers that use a common pad, so replacements won't be hard to find. The calipers have four 10-millimeter cross bolt and that's gonna give maximum stiffness and they have stainless steel abutments and noise suppression springs. They have a hard anodized aluminum piston with an internal crossover design. They have a machine logo that is hand-painted and they're fire red for a good look. Moving on to the rotors, once again, you're getting two-piece rotors here. So, for those of you that don't know, two-piece rotors are always gonna be an upgrade over single-piece rotors. The rotors will come preassembled for you but if you take a look at these you will see that the center of the rotor or the hat here is separate from the ring. The main benefit of a two-piece rotor like this is heat dissipation. With better heat dissipation, you get better performance. You get better performance with a two-piece rotor because the center of the rotor is not one piece with a ring. The ring is where all of the heat is. And in a one-piece rotor the heat can easily transfer to the hat and the whole rotor will hold heat then. With a two-piece rotor, the heat transfer is not as great. The outer ring will deal with the heat in this case and the inner hat won't be as affected. The center hat here is made of aluminum on these two-piece rotors as it usually is on most two-piece rotors. It's 6061-T6 aluminum to be exact. So aluminum helps with heat dissipation but it also helps keep the rotors lightweight, lighter than your stock rotors. So, you're looking at better heat dissipation with a two-piece rotor which will mean better braking performance for a longer period of time but you're also looking at the other benefit of weight reduction with a two-piece rotor. Now, I mentioned that this kit can save you up to 32 pounds and the rotor's one of the big weight savings. These rotors are also cross drilled and slotted. Now, the whole point behind cross drilling and slotting your rotor is to help keep the brake pad from glazing. It also helps keep the rotor free of the gases and dust that's made during braking, so it gives that stuff a place to escape too. That means better, cleaner braking. Another performance feature the rotors is the vented vein design that these have. So, this is a venting system that's inside of the rotors. So, inside of the rotors are directional veins that act as a vacuum that pulls air through the rotors when they're spinning. The veins curve and direction of the rotation and the air is pulled through the eye of the hat and sent out through the edges of the rotors here. This pulls heat away from the metal and helps to draw the brake dust and water away from the rotor surface through the cross drilled holes here. The rings are also zinc-coated which does look nice but it helps with corrosion resistance too. So, needless to say, these are much more performance oriented than your stock rotors and other one-piece rotors. Also, keep in mind that you usually just be replacing the rotor ring when you need to, not purchasing a complete set of new rotors every time.
