Way too much money for what it doesn't do for you.

At almost 450 bucks had high expectations for this shifter. Out of the box looked beautiful. Not too bad to install. But that's about the end of it for me. Reduced throw by maybe 15. Not to mention that this is one solid piece once you bolt it together. No rubber bushings for movement. As we all know torque will make the engine and trans move just a bit and that's what doesn't work too well together here for me. Now what happens when everything wants to move say 1 millimeter, it binds. Especially shifts from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 when your on the gas. Not to mention you have to get used to a gated shifter, no slight pulls left towards you anymore. Not a big deal just getting used to it. I could actually shift faster, with much less friction with the stock shifter. Shifter feels very mechanical just like my old Muncie trans from back in the day. Just remember AM does not guarantee the shifter, if it feels like you're stuck with it. Unless you take it to a mechanic and pay 300 for something any enthusiast can install in 2 to 3 hours with basic tools. Oh yea and if there is a real problem you have to take it to a shop and have them do a written statement that the shifter is bad and not your install that you send to AM to get a replacement. What a joke. Not too happy about it, but I will go back to stock.

            A lot firmer and smoother

The shifter works amazing and compared to the stock parts you now see why the stock one misses gears so much

            Awesome replacement

Great replacement for the factory GT500 shifter. Had the transmission out to upgrade the clutch and replaced this at the same time. Excellent quality parts and easy instructions.

            Barton Short Throw

Awesome shifter, got it installed by a friend in just a couple of hours. It's a bit pricey for a shifter but... I guess it's the price you pay for having a GT500

            Not impressed

I was very excited about the install but I was disappointed at the results. The product isn't bad but it was worth the price tag. My stock shifter was far from the results of this one. It is very notchie and the throws were reduced much at all. One good thing was the kit came with 2 handles. That was a nice surprise. Maybe that compensates some.

            Barton gt500 shifter

Best mod to buy by far.You know when your in each of the gears. Even reverse goes in real nice. No more sloppy shifting and not sure if your in gear or not. Install was easy and looks killer too! Awesome shifter!

            Great quality

It's a shame this shifter is completely hidden. It really has a look that you want to show off. Install is fairly quick, and the included DVD gives excellent directions. Have it available while you're installing and you'll have no problems. This shifter makes the stock GT500 shifter look like a piece of trash. When it comes to removing the forward retaining clips, take your time. They're a PITA, but if you break one, it's a special order item from Ford ($23.00). The passenger side clip is fairly difficult to get out, due to the clip covering most of the access hole, and the lack of space on that side. Throws are nice and short, and it pretty much is a never miss from 2nd to 3rd. Shift lever is a little tall for my taste, but in getting used to it. It includes a stock type lever, in which you re-use your factory shift knob, and a very nice flat stick with BARTON engraved on it. If you use the flat stick, you have to cut the factory alcantera shift boot. With the center console removed, I turned the boot inside-out, cut the boot at the very edge of where it meets the circular plastic piece, added a touch of super glue to keep the threads from coming apart, and was able to pull it down over the recess of the shift lever. All in all it's a great shifter, and well worth the money.

            You Need this upgrade

If you've got a GT500, you need this unit. Takes a couple hours to put in.. Get a friend to help. The factory unit is a piece of trash compared to this one. Shifts are very precise and it doesn't bend like the OEM unit does. Now the downside. I picked up quite a bit of NVH in the cabin as a result of putting this bad boy in. Going to try and put a piece of rubber between the chassis and the rear mount of this unit to see if that solves the issue. Crossing my fingers.

            Great quality and very smooth!

I first tried this shifter at the American Muscle car show in 2011, where Barton had a prototype installed in a GT500. Ever since I'd been hounding them for a release date. I got it a few days before its release and installed it right away. It replaced a Shelby billet shifter (Scott Drake) which was a huge improvement over stock itself. The Barton was a huge improvement even over the Shelby shifter though. The install was a breeze and the forward support arms bolt to the body of the shifter from the bottom rather than the sides, which makes install even easier. The quality of construction and hardware is second to nothing I've ever scene. The end result is a shifter that provides a very short, very smooth throw and is built to last. This thing is a beast! The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it doesn't have the adjustable throw like Barton's GT shifter has and like the competitor offers. The GT500 shifter has no adjustment but it appears could easily have the same adjusting technique as the GT shifter which would have made this shifter by far 5 star +. This wasn't and wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, since its very effective the way it is, but having the option to play with minor adjustments would be nice. Don't hesitate to pull the trigger on this, it's one of the nicest and well built aftermarket parts I've ever installed. It's almost a shame to hide it under the car.
